  1. How can you say they didn't buy their team? they either FA signed or traded for pretty much their entire roster.
  2. Commanders and ultimates are another good choice if you don't need scuppers. I have a commander for flat water and it is easier to stand in than any SOT because your feet are below the waterline and you can lean your legs against the sides of the boat for more stability.
  3. Ih ave caught bass on sunnies that ate my flies and while they weren't hooked, they didn't let go and i was able to land them. Had the same thing happen with pickerel before too.
  4. I don't have the ultimate but i do have the commander and it is pretty much the same boat. They are great flat water or non technical river boats. Yes they don't have scuppers but i haven't had a problem with mine as of yet and i have done some river floats as well. The open layout of a hybrid is great for flat water and makes storage of gear a breeze. I have sat in the ultimate seat and it is pretty awesome to say the least.
  5. Got in another ride today. Almost 22 miles averaging 16.5 miles. I was gonna try and get to 25 but i made a turn a little to early but the route turned out to be pretty good anyways. http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/586195513
  6. I use 30lb (8lb diameter) power pro super slick for all my cranking needs. It has worked great and I have no complaints. I also find my baits getting a little deeper.
  7. Depends really on where I am fishing. It could be as many as 6 conventional rods, 3 fly rods or a combo of the two. As far as baits go I have a spinner bait box that i took out the dividers in that i take some soft plastics in and then i have a plano box for terminal tackle, one for cranks, one for top waters and one for miscellaneous stuff i think i might need. It all fits in my crate and if it doesn't fit, it doesn't get to go along for the trip. Fly fishing is pretty easy because i can take 2-3 double sided fly boxes and have more flies than i would need in a few years and in half the space as conventional gear As far as anything else some gatorades and if i am going out al lady with a lot of paddling i will throw a hoagie in there too. The go pro usually comes along too as does a pair of pliers and my snips for cutting braid if needed. Other than that, not a whole lot and even though it sounds like a lot, everything fits in my crate so it is a one stop grab and go kind of deal.
  8. I wouldn't go back to that BPS for sure but if I got some gift cards i would spend them online most likely. Depending on what actually happened i may or may not ever shop there again online or otherwise.
  9. Welcome aboard and there is some great info in here and also keep an eye on the flea market....great deals to be had on "used" equipment.
  10. I have done it and saw another guy at a local pond doing the same thing. It is a good presentation for sure if they are looking for something moving pretty quickly
  11. BMI is a guideline really. The best is get your body fat percentage. Everything else is pointless really. I am 5'11" and I fluctuate between 198-202 generally but I am supposed to be in the 175 range....I'll probably drop down to the low 190's as I begin to ride more but never do I want to be in the 170's lol I guess the fact I wear a size 48 jacket doesn't come in to play with BMI....
  12. Went on a ride today and it was the toughest yet, not because of the route or my fitness level but because all I could smell were burgers, chicken, sausage..... The riding part went pretty well as I did the same route as last time and upped the MPH slightly to 16.64 over almost 20 miles. I really want to add more miles but not sure I should...maybe I'll do one longer ride a week and two shorter rides. Still plenty of time to donate guys & gals
  13. Yes that is exactly the reason. If you anchoring even in what feels like light current can cause problems pretty quickly. When i anchor in current which is extremely rare it has to be directly off the stern or bow of the kayak. If it is off to one side or another you can very easily be swamped or flipped. It is also critical to have a quick release system and a fixed blade sharp knife to cut the line should things get ugly. Personally i can count on one hand the number of times i have anchored in heavier current. If i want to fish one of those types of areas i will beach the kayak or go shallow and use my park n pole to hold the boat while i wade to fish the area. The anchor trolley is really nice on flat water as it allows you to change the position of your boat relative to the wind so you can have the best angle for your presentations.
  14. Any type of anchor will work and an anchor trolley will be very useful. Just be careful about anchoring in any type of current. Scupper plugs are fine but remember scuppers are there to drain water so any water that gets accumulated throughout the day will still be there until you unplug. You are in a kayak you are gonna get wet .... As far as keys go I have a small dry bag that I clip to my crate....
  15. Lowes and Home Depot are running sales.....I picked up 200lbs of charcoal for half price or about .25 a pound I would have bought more and still might if i can find a place to store it As far as fishing stuff goes, I am pretty set for now and don't need to spend any more cash on that lol
  16. I ma guessing since your profile is in NY that the water is still la little chilly. Pickerel are way more active when it is chilly out and i run into the same things down here in VA. Once the water warms up some, i don't catch nearly as many. You also have to remember that the pickerel help to control small fish populations which in turn creates a more healthy fishery. Many lakes around here encourage you to keep smaller bass but nobody ever does and you can see it in the quality of fish that are present. I have caught a 20" bass and a 22" pickerel off the same blowdown before, so they can coexist for sure.
  17. I'l have to disagree about the Sage bass rods though. While the grain weight does loosely correlate to what you are stating they are not a traditional line in that they are more like a shooting head. I rarely if ever have to do more than one back cast and then shoot the line out to the target. Saves time and turns over the bigger flies with ease. I can catch smaller bass all day long on my fly rod but going after the big girls takes a larger fly, hence the reason i go with the larger flies. In most instances, you can cast smaller flies on heavier rods but the reverse is not always the case
  18. Tibors are very nice. I am not too brand loyal when it comes to reels and own a galvan, lamson, a few sage and a couple Ross. For rods I am partial to Sage and also own 2 st croixs but I am hearing a lot of good stuff about TFO rods but I like buying made in USA stuff when I can and I am pretty sure they are all made overseas.
  19. Fly fishing by its nature will involve getting less rods than conventional tackle but different line weights make a big difference on the flies you throw. I fished for years as a poor college kid with a 4wt and caught everything from native brookies to 20" smallies to 15+lb carp. I never thought I would need another rod because of what I did with that 4wt...well that changed when I took out a 7wt and couldn't believe the difference it made smallie fishing. Still have that rod and would never get rid of it....Sage XP 9' 7wt Oh and for the record, I am not an orvis fan at all but I know many who are
  20. Depends on when...I haven't started to build out my current wrangler. I am debating on the approach I want to take with it as the JK is pretty easy to get good ground clearance with minimal lift which keeps the COG low...crazy that I had to put 4" of lift on my old YJ to have the same size tire that came stock on my JK....
  21. Yeah those ties aren't cheap but I know guys who would get them from junk tractors. The mudding thing just doesn't do it for me.. And yes, I have a wrangler now too.
  22. If i am building a mud bogger you can take away a few of those zeroes
  23. Mudding causes way note damage than crawling too....when yo hare crawling and something breaks you know what it is and can fix it. When you go muddling **** will start breaking down the road from the added wear and friction caused by the mud in places you had no idea it could even get to. I don't mind running through a mud pit every once in a while but no way i am doing what those guys are doing...
  24. Definitely a cool video. When i bought my first wrangler I went mudding one time...didn't get stuck but after having to clean it and change all the fluids I decided the fun wasn't worth it so I started crawling on rocks instead
