  1. "The fish you put back is your gift to another angler, and, who knows, it may have been another angler's gift to you." Lee Wulff. is that the one? I am pretty sure John Gierach has a few as well
  2. Another ride today and unfortunately I did not get out early enough to beat the brutal heat we are having. I will take cool and rainy over hot and windy like it was today anytime....still managed to get in 20 miles though at my normal pace of around 16.6 MPH. \ http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/631969159
  3. Good luck man. I have been riding my bike a good bit and not really doing much else and while i am not looking to lose weight per se, I have knocked off about 7-10 lbs. I need to start supplementing though and see what that does as all I have been doing right now is egg protein powder shakes after a ride for recovery purposes.
  4. I fish from a kayak so no boat flipping for me as i always lip them but when i did fish from a regular boat more regularly I never flipped a bass into the boat, always reached down and lipped them. Seems lazy to me and there is potential to break a rod, lose a fish or hurt the fish all in the name of what, saving a few seconds?
  5. Also rock climbing isn't always the technical kind either. there are plenty of routes out in the rockies that do not require vast amounts of gear and climbing expertise to complete. Personally, i prefer the roped kind though and have had lots of adventure doing that Nothing better than hiking in on a hunch because of how the topography of an area is laid out hoping there are cliffs and finding out there there are and then being the first person to ever climb them
  6. Soft swim baits have done very well for me in lily pads. they come through pretty clean and create some massive hits. The other thing i always look for is any other type of cover in the pads with wood being my favorite. If i see a downed log in the middle of the pads I know there are going to be fish there.
  7. Another day, another ride. Did my normal 25 mile loop and was trying to up my MPH average. Well, it worked 25.06 miles and averaged 17.56 mph. Felt pretty good at the end of the ride and debated on going for another loop but figured I'll save that for the next ride. here is the link to anyone who is still thinking about donating and the link to my ride today. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/VARBikeEvents?px=4544103&pg=personal&fr_id=22247 http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/627734129
  8. first time in 50 years.....but it wasn't too long ago the phillies swept the braves too the phillies plain old stink. No sugar coating it really
  9. I know guys that have inflatables and they just carry an extra recharge canister or whatever it is in their dry bag so if it goes off they can reset it.
  10. Survival and adventure are different to me. I have had plenty of adventure in my life and am constantly searching for more. It's all there, you just have to be willing to go for it. I remember when i was in college we would go camping for a weekend with nothing more than a knife and one match, just to see if we could do it and we did just fine If you think adventure is dead then you are the one to blame, not anything else. Get out there and do something
  11. I had a Coosa for 2 seasons and never saw what you are talking about as far as flimsy build. In every Jackson boat i checked out i always had the impression hat the boats were built more sturdy than others. You also have to consider what exactly are you looking for in a hatch? are you trying to stand on it and do backflips or is it used to keep most water out of the compartment. My guess is the latter and weight is always a concern so you have to find the line between durability and light weight. All of the boats i have owned are pretty much the same as far as hatches go actually...
  12. Good ride in today....got in 48.71 miles at a 16.4 MPH pace so I am happy as this is the longest ride of the year for me by a few miles. The last time i did this route i had some cramps in my back and it showed in my MPH average...it is amazing how a little more food and hydration can help out in a ride. Here is the link again for anyone looking to donate and the link to today's training ride. http://main.nationalmssociety.org/site/TR/Bike/VARBikeEvents?px=4544103&pg=personal&fr_id=22247 http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/625514773
  13. 37 here
  14. I need to fish that pond!!!
  15. All good advice so far but one thing i will add to the fray is to be super cautious in anchoring in current of any type. Things can go badly very quickly, especially if you are not anchored directly off the bow or stern of the kayak. I carry a drag chain at times in the kayak but rarely even use that and if i really want to anchor i usually beach the kayak jump out and fish the areas more thoroughly. I will also very often use my stake out pole to hold my kayak in place while i fish or tie the kayak to a truing around my waist while i fish too, both work pretty well.
  16. If you have the email addresses of those 5k or 10k donors feel free to forward along :D
  17. I like chain pickerel as well but i love fishing for big brown trout in spring creeks and native brookies in tiny mountain streams....if i didn't move to an area where i had to drive 2 hours for browns and brookies i probably wouldn't have even gotten back into bass fishing
  18. I caught a 14" crappie once on a weightless texas rigged yum dinger, which by itself isn't a big deal but i caught him while i was casting over a grass mat that i was dropping the dinger into holes. He blasted through the grass like a bass would....never saw that before and haven't seen it since.
  19. I would bet half are mine posting and checking but that was my hope. A few bucks here and there from a lot of people adds up quickly. You don't really appreciate health until it is taken away from a loved one, that is for sure.
  20. Wow!!! Awesome and thank you for your generosity. Jason
  21. Yeah the Map my ride app is pretty good. I paid for the MVP version which gives a few more features like customizable split times and other features i haven;t used like cadence and heart rate monitoring. I am probably going to get some sort of cadence meter though because i think that is what i am going to need to improve even more.
  22. I know many kayak companies have their pro staff and they get boats at pretty much wholesale cost and you have to be in the current year model boats so they encourage selling off the old ones to fund the next one. Personally, I don't care how much they paid for them and if it is a price i am willing to pay, I'll buy it.
  23. I did one better....i grabbed a few chicken burritos and chicken soft tacos from taco bell
  24. Another ride today....Nasty headwind at the beginning then a crosswind and of course tailwind but only for about a mile but it felt pretty nice Normal route of 25 miles averaged 16.8mph Kind of sucks too because if i didn't have that headwind to fight early i probably would have averaged over 17mph on a ride of this length for the first time this year....there's always tomorrow. http://www.mapmyride.com/workout/622929687
  25. Cover and fly size will definitely dictate what size rod you want to use as well. I used to fish for everything from native brookies to smallies and carp on my 4wt and while it worked, it makes it much more enjoyable and not as much "chuck & duck" type casting when using the bigger weighted flies, to have the appropriate weight fly rod. Only you will know that though
