  1. Drop in the bucket to the NFL really. I am glad they are being held accountable for their non-actions. I guess we will see even more rules legislating contact to players. This does open up a huge can of worms though....what about knees, shoulders, arms, hips etc.....
  2. I am looking forward to your statistical analysis after your trip for sure Don't forget to think of how it would be for a long rodder while you are out there.....
  3. I would suggest looking at www.sierratradingpost.com for sunglasses. They always have a decent selection and if you do a search for a coupon or sign up for their deal flyer you can get them pretty cheap. I was looking at a pair of Smith polarized with their rose copper lenses that normally retail for around 120 for about $40. They will also have costas in there but you have to check frequently because they usually don't last to long.
  4. I agree with everything you said here except the live bait piece. Fishing with live bait takes as much skill as fishing with artificals and most, including myself, do not take the time to learn all the nuances. I read one article that went into depth about live bait fishing and i was shocked at the amount of work he was putting into it. I always just live line a jumbo minnow or chuck one out under a bobber or something myself. He went into the intricacies of rigging each bait correctly, finding the right locations and time. I think it all boils down to fishing wher ethe big fish are, fishing there often and going after the big bite.
  5. I try to go by the rule of holding your breath while the fish is out of the water. When it is time for you to breathe it is time to release the fish.

Definitely a bad run. And a friendly word of advice that you can take it for exactly what you paid for it.....given you will probably have litigation at some point I would refrain from venting in online forums, facebook, twitter etc....you would be amazed on what can be brought up and found and held against you at a later time as innocent as it may first seem.
  7. I think I have been more impressed with asche in the field though. He has made some pretty stellar plays. As far as tommy John surgery goes I think it is like other diseases. Diagnosis and treatment has gotten more refined so people are having the procedures more often I do think it is also related to building up a strong base of endurance that takes years to do and with pitch counts and other restrictions you can pretty much only put out certain types of pitchers unless they are a freak of nature. I compare it to cycling. They have a specific award in the Tour de France for the best young rider. It is widely established and accepted that without having a long period of time train and build up endurance you cannot win the tour.
  8. Ignorance is bliss apparently...private or not unless you own the entire lake I would think you are being careless and selfish. And just curious but do you have studies confirming your theory of "they eat so much of re food that bass need" Other than of course what you think is happening with no substantiation.
  9. Not sure i quite agree with this analysis. Tournament fisherman are not always going after the big bite, well at least not until after they have their limit. Now if these same anglers were in a winner take all one big fish tourney i might buy the analysis a little more but in the current state it really isn't applicable in my mind.
  10. I am always intrigued when i see a title of a post then your name as teh originator because i know it will be soemthing entertaining.....and you didn't disappoint again. Kid was a punk for sure. I know i had a few run ins on job sites but none ever came to blows even though some i wish had.
  11. here ya go http://www.bassmaster.com/tournaments/2014-bassmaster-classic
  12. I think most of you are missing the benefits of PEDs. It isn't about bulking up or getting stroner per se it is about recoevery time. Most baseball players get busted for either a stimulant or HGH. HGH helps one recover more quickly and stimulants keep you going. Why else do yo uthink once adderall was banned from MLB there was a sudden rash of ADHD cases and subsequent exemptions? I do agree though that being on any type of tour type event schedule can be difficult to manage and there seems like there isn't enough time in the day . We have all fished from sun up to sundown before but i know i have never done it where i needed that paycheck to feed my family. That brings an entirely different pespective to any activity. The main differnece in fishing is being stronger really sin't going to help you as much as it does in football or baseball. I also find it pretty hard to think that the pros aren't able to stay in good enough shape to fish every day at a high intensity level.
  13. There is never bad news for the Mets in my opinion.....I do feel bad for Harvey though. And what do you guys think of all these young guys the phillies are playing? Ruf and Asche seem like they could be the real deal.
  14. It does still have tension in the bail when closed. I will have to check to see if it is gunked up around the hinges or spring housing. If i can't figure it out, you might get a reel sent your way for repair lol
  15. I have a stradic FH (I think that is the model) where the bail will not stay open uless you get it just right. I am thinking it is some sort of bail spring but i will show my ignorance here in reel schematics. Any ideas on if this would be the case or what coudl cause the bail to not remain open when flipped? Thanks
  16. Valid points. I agree that technical classes in classroom work is probably more important and also even in undergraduate work. I know i haev found more and more classes in grad programs being offered online. I did research the accreditation of various schools and you are right that many do not transfer but really that is the same for most schools whether in class or online. THe chool i am attending doesn't mention it is an online degree so nobody will know unless you ask and it does have both in class and online classes. You need to have the discipline to get the work done and utilize the tools that are provided to make it as much of an in class experience as possible. I would also say the majority of failures in online is due to lacking the time management skills to complete an online class. For me this is a tough one because i tend to put things off but i have to force myself to work each night and not try and make up for it on teh weekend.....all that being said i have apaper to write tonight too
  17. Are we going to get into a statistics conversation here My knowledge of variance and what is determined is luck they are not even close to the same. Also given the variables involved in fishing the variance piece is kind of out the window. Now if yo uwere tlaking about electro shocking and sample sizes then i could buy the variance argument but we all have fished next to people who are catching and you aren't when throwing the same baits. This is where the preparation comes into play. Really any sports event variance is a difficult one to use as there are so many variables involved. And yes, standard deviations are the way to go
  18. I have heard the fish won't bite if you don't hold your mouth right.....usually this is directed towards kids and the correct way to hold your mouth is closed
  19. Just curious as to why you think that? I felt very much the same way when they first came out but as technology has improved so have online classes.
  20. To me luck is where preparation meets opportunity hence the reason i don't believe in it at all. The "luckiest" people i know are the ones who work hard and make educated guesses based on that preparation and experieces they learned from in the past. And sorry but variance is not the same as luck from any statistical analysis perspective. Luck is not a statistical term and cannot be measured.
  21. When i was registering for the program they said you can only take one class at a time. I asked why can;t i take two at least. I mean i worked 40+ hours a week and went to school full time for undergrad.....yeah well i am glad that for now i am just taking one. Having a full time job, 3 year old, a house to take care of etc....and a class is definitely a lot to take care of but it will be alright. Good thing i have a supportive fiancee....at least she is right now but we will see how she is a few months from now lol
  22. Some of you are probably aware as i posted before that I have decided to make a career change and take some classes to get my masters in teaching along with certification to teach. Anyways, the classes are all online with the exception of the student teaching and various observations etc...that i need to complete. One thing I can say is that if you are not organized and self motivated do not take online classes!! They make up for not going to class by ensuring you have plenty of assignments to do during the week. Of course this may calm down some since this is the first graduate level class, online class and any class for that matter in over 10 years. I can definitely say that fishing will be on the back burner for a while which is ok since i have this site that i can live vicariously through everyone else Just thought i would share
  23. Did the guy see you lose it or you just assuming he did because he was fishing nearby? Personally i would have given it back but i also wouldn't have asked someone else for the lure back if i saw them get it.
  24. I have a buddy who went from VA to seattle via amtrak and said it was a great time. I have used the train to travel from VA to PA a few times and all i can say is you meet some interesting people on trains....
  25. Gotcha. I was trying to figure out how you were going to be fishing a small stream without a canoe or wading. Good luck and let us know how you do.
