  1. So many to choose from I absolutely love my 9'7wt Sage XP with a SA titan floating line for smaller gamechangers but primarily it is a topwater rod. My other favorites are the TFO mangrove and Mangrove coast in 8wt one with a sink tip and one floating. When I want to throw big meaty flies that are wind resistant or heavier I go with my Sage Bass II LM rod matched up with a 10wt floating magnum line. My TFO mini mag is also in the mix paired up with a 7wt SA titan line for when I am wading the smaller flows and the shorter rod length helps with overhanging branches.
  2. you will soon learn how much better it really is. I could paddle my boat at 3.5-4mph with little effort. I can use my NK180s motor at about 50-70% throttle and get the same speed and not exert any effort. You also don't realize how much energy is expended and how much more fresh you are at the end of the day. For me on rivers it allowed me to fish way more water in way less time than when paddling and on a few lakes where I don't even start fishing for a couple miles it allows me to put the motor on and rig up my rods or just sit back and enjoy the cruise out there. On the way back it is really nice to just put the motor on and cruise back to the ramp.
  3. I broke way too many hawg troughs in my kayak or lost them overboard and i went to a plano bumop board and cracked that and recently went with a ketch carbonate board that is holding up nicely and i put some 3/4" foam seal stuff like you would use for drafty windows or soemthing in the slots in teh back and it floats. So far so good.....if i need to weigh a fish I pull out the rapala digital scale. Unless it is citation sized i don't usually measure or weigh my fish.
  4. What kind of well nuts, like the rubber ones with the threaded inserts? Me personally I don't think I would use those for a motor mount of any type. There is a lot of force on those mounts. If you can't access it you can either put in a hatch for access or use a yak attack rigging bullet with their backing plate. I have used well nuts, rivets, threaded screw inserts and good old fashioned nuts and bolts. I have virutally all of them break down and fail over time except nuts and bolts and a close second being the threaded screw inserts. Hopefully your experience is different and the well nuts hold fine but I would be sure to check them for dry rot and loosening pretty often and be sure to use the exact drill bit they recommend and keep the hole perpindicular to the surface or it won't hold as solid as it should.
  5. High of 79 saturday, 79 Sunday and 80 monday here in central VA
  6. definitely took his girl based on the chosen picture.....thanks for clarifying
  7. I am just curious as to why you go out of your way to bash kayaks every chance you get. Did one steal your girlfriend or something? I mean its funny but then it does make me wonder if you need some counseling to get through the trauma a plastic boat put you through......
  8. Amazing that no team in the NFC east has a losing record...Eagles are beating who is on their schedule and doing so handily. Commanders won 3 straight, giants took a bad L and the cowboys beat up on a bottom feeding team. Eagles still are the team to beat and I would like nothing more than to see an Eagles Bills Super Bowl. Way too early but that's what fans do....
  9. What makes someone a diehard bass angler? I don't really care much about tournaments but I will watch them in the winter when nothing else is really on or if i am flipping channels and see it on there.
  10. Zoom makes magnum flukes which are a big bait and run like 6 or 7" long. Won't suspend but can definitely be worked erratically.
  11. Interesting high end concept just not for me. I am surprised that thermoformed kayaks never took hold in the market though. Higher price but way lighter and I know river kayak smallie guru Jeff Little had one and beat the crap out of it trying to break one and never did. I love my current boat, ATAK 120 but if they came out with a thermoformed version that was reasonably priced I'd sell mine and get it for sure.
  12. If she ordered that she was the one not looking for a second date...
  13. I use clips for any bait that has a split ring tie in point that i then remove. Saves time when adjusting for depth with crankbaits or colors.
  14. I will disagree here to an extent. Of course you can swim any jig but the jig head and weed guard design plays a factor in the way it comes through cover. I can tell a noticeable difference when I am using a dedicated swim jig in the way it comes through cover as opposed to an arkie or other jig head styles. A lot of it has to do with the angle of the hook in relation to the head. I stick with seibert for all my jigs. Their quality is top notch and their shipping time and prices are good. They also have every color you would ever want.
  15. well the red you see in steaks isn't blood anyways, it is myoglobin but lots of people think it is blood.
  16. Who cares. If that is what they want to eat and that is what they enjoy then I am ok with it. My wife is a well done steak gal or at least was. Now I can get away with a medium well and she has said it tastes better. I am a rare/medium rare guy myself. I also like to cook and I cook for me and my family and if we like it, then we eat it, even if conventional wisdom says otherwise.
  17. I work with a lot of sucky coworkers. Some it is kind of not their fault as they are recent graduates and thrown directly into the fire with little real world experience. As long as they are lookign to improve I am fine with it though and enjoy helping them along. The other are the subset that think they know it all even though they have minimal experience or minimal experience in the environment we work. Lots of great people too though. Oh, and I am an elementary school teacher
  18. i would say omega and omega pros in tandem along with a sidearm track mount. I use this system for 2 omega pro & 2 omega rod holders on my kayak.
  19. I have been known to take a bow saw with me to get my kayak further up or downstream. As far as on foot goes, I have done many days where i would be 5+ miles up a mountain stream.
  20. I use a retractable dog leash mounted under my seat with the line replaced with paracord and running through some metal rings. That mount to my tracks up the front with an anchor wizard chute. It is mainly set up for rivers since i don't have to worry about direction. I use the chain da bomb anchor, i think around 7-8lbs, where i cut a couple links off so it would work on the chute on my particular setup. They make a cable version too that is a little loghter but I wanted a little extra weight for river use. I guess there is about 50' of cord on there and i never have to anchor deeper than 20-30'. I also find that the standard 3x the water depth for anchor line isn't as important on a kayak. i usually use about 50% more than the depth and it seems to hold me just fine.
  21. i always anchor up for any cranking other than squarebills. That will be your best bet over finding some crankbait that doesn't pull as much.
  22. I will disagree there. You can get a quality kayak and mount a motor like a NK180s and everything needed for under 3k. You can go even cheaper with the motor and get under 2k if you wanted. Cockpit size isn't always different based on length. My 14' and 12' kayaks had the same cockpit area and size as do many in the same model line. It is totally worth checking them out ion person though as everyone is different based on their style of fishing and size etc....
  23. Fly tyers use a lead tape which i prefer over the dots myself as I can adjust the size and placement more easily. I also upgrade to heavier hooks or larger hooks to adjust characteristics as well.
  24. Fishing for brookies in a remote blue line that will remain nameless but along the lines of @A-Jay and lake menderchuck...i was probably 3 miles up into the mountains having a great day fishing for native brookies. This is the type of fishing where you are usually fishing tight quarters and have to be stealthy and concentrate. I hear a rustle in the rhododendron and keep in mind you really can't see more than about 20 feet off the bank. I don't think anything of it and keep fishing. I get to a small clearing where there is a decent sized pool and I hear some more rustling and decide to stop fishing for a minute and take a look around. next thing you know, I see two black bear cubs come frolicking down the bank and make their way to the pool i was about to fish. I was about 20 yards away probably so I just hunkered down and waited. I have seen lots of black bears but never with cubs and I know mama bears aren't too nice to strangers when they have cubs. After what seemed like forever i hear, then see mama bear come down following her cubs. This isn't that big of a deal but what really set me into a slightly scared state was after the cubs were out of the water and on the bank, mama bear pauses, tilts her nose up in the air and starts sniffing all around. I thought for sure she was gonna smell me and I was gonna have to see what she was gonna do but she didn't. She then went along her merry way none the wiser I guess. Not that dramatic but still being as far away as I was I knew if something happened it could be a bad situation. Now if we are talking other outdoor situations I have had way more close calls.
  25. To me love is a choice not a feeling. I choose to love people and those people are few. I have no issues telling people males I love them if i made that choice to do so. I'd rather make sure they feel loved and know it without me saying it though as that means more.
