  1. I did some guiding in college to get me cheap fly gear and it was always funny to see the faces of the clients when I didn't look like a fly fisherman but i always put them on the fish.
  2. I moved to richmond in 2004 so i think it was 2006 and it wasn't as much a fight as it was a gut feeling while i was walking my bulldog and a dude swung i was ready and dodged and hit him as hard as i could and he dropped and i left.
  3. Reserved coaching style is anything but Pedersen though. Games have been solid so far or at least entertaining. Always something different when teams are divsion rivals and meet up for a third time in the playoffs.
  4. Nah, the jet wouldn't be able to be used in a lot of places I fish, especially for largemouth so the kayak will still get some work for sure. The rivers around here also get really low in the summer where i would be able to run a jet sure but i couldn't stop so that is when i'd need the kayak still too. It would open up a lot more of the season though as far as higher water goes which would be nice. Just another tool to put in the toolbox to get on the water.
  5. Nothing wrong with that. I have seen guys with a torqeedo and up front trolling motor and that seems like a lot to me but hey, it's not my money to spend lol. Whatever gets you on the water is what matters really
  6. Hull design is a major factor as is the lower thrust, it is 45lb i believe and those are big heavy boats. Higher thrust would be able to maintain the same speed with less battery drain too though. I have an ATAK 120 right now as my preference is to motorize a good paddling boat. As far as stability goes, after being in my dad's AP and my ATAK i don't see a different in stability between the two. I personally think they made it so it looks more like the hobie PA to make you think it is more stable...it is stable though don't get me wrong and look like that PA style of kayak.
  7. you can go as cheap or as expensive as you want to and same goes for simple or complex. I have a NK180s motor on my kayak and use a stick steer set up rather than foot steering.
  8. I'll read the article in a bit but jut to throw a comment in there is a major difference between primarily trout guys and warmater guys as far as elitists in my experience. Bass and warmwater guys don't care as much except in my experience the occasional redneck making a comment when im fishing on a lake for green bass. now on a local spring creek it is elitist big time with people making comments if you aren't matching the hatch or if you are throwing streamers etc....
  9. I was told this piece of advice by someone who is good at a local place here that is loaded with timber to the point it has a HP restriction to prevent accidents and they said much of what was said here to the tune of imagine the timber isn't there find those same spots you'd fish then use the timber to help locate the fish on that same structure.
  10. I think if you fish offshore a lot a spot lock motor would be very nice to have. My dad has the old town autopilot with spot lock and it is a nice set up for holding location, even seen him do it in rivers but the motor to me is severely underpowered. My NK180s will be at under 50% throttle while his is at 100% and it isn't great for moving water at all. I did envy him a little though on our last river trip when he just hit the button and it held him in current very nicely.
  11. I do a lot of night fishing and never have a light on. You would be shocked at how well your eyes adjust if you let them. As far as tying on baits etc.....i usually take out a few rods pre rigged to lessen the needs for retying but it does happen and when it does I use a headlamp with either a red or green light as dim as possible to not mess with night vision. I will flick on the regular beam at times for navigation if needed but not normally and I also fish from a kayak.
  12. Just use a fly rod : ) built in shock absorber to handle any fish you want. Once i am able to go on my bucket list trip of fishing for them with my fly rods I will more info but it might be a few years....
  13. Lots of good perspective and opinions on this thread for sure. I can add my .02 as well I guess. I am a big proponent of a longer boat if possible. I ran a 12' boat for years and then switched to a 14' and it was a big difference. It would glide better and stay at speed more easily. I had to warranty it and went back t a 12' and I have no complaints. Stability and a good seat are super important to me over about everything else as UI primarily fly fish. I also want a good paddling boat even if it is motorized or pedal driven, mine has a motor but i use it more for spot to spot than anything else. It also allows me to take the kayak out without a motor and paddle easily. Every kayak is different and one other thing to add is to not try and solve a problem you don't have based on others. You have to find your groove and what you want kayak fishing to be and go from there. I see lots of fully rigged out boats that are brand new looking and it is because people spent more time on internet forums than on the water with their boat and then the wonder why they don't like their set up. I have fished for over 2 decades out of a kayak and even my most recent kayak i paddled and fished for 5-6 times before I started rigging things up. Kayak fishing isn't for everyone but it is a fun way to get on the water and open up a bunch of new opportunities to get out and fish. This is true but at the same time it can also be added on over time as you get deeper into the sport without a larger initial investment. I think i have probably 6k into all my stuff but it was an evolution over time which works for me. Now I am saving up for a jet boat for the rivers
  14. That is the one I was about to get until i got the warranty news. I have met a few people on the river with them and they all really like them. I don''t think I would want it for all time use but as a specific purpose I think they would be great. This was the other one I was looking at https://www.crescentkayaks.com/product/stand-up-paddle-board-sup-plus/
  15. My dad has bought a couple kayaks from there and I am pretty sure they "rent" kayaks and then if you purchase it goes towards the cost. Another thing not mentioned is there are some kayak companies that warranties are not transferable so if uou have issues yo uare stuck
  16. waypoints and casting circles on my old helix 5 works well for me.
  17. If it is designed for fishing it is more than doable and I was about to the pull the trigger on one until my kayak was warrantied and i got a new one out of the deal. You can absolutely fish and fly fish out of one and I still may pick one up for simple trips and motoring upriver.
  18. Yo-Zuri Hybrid is what I run on my spinning rods that don't have braid. Fantastic line
  19. Anecdotal data is not contradictory to the science as it is a one off situation.
  20. Took a few weeks longer than expected but I am ok with that. Time to get healthy and prepare for the divsional round. Cowboys look like garbage out there today...I fully expected them to blow the commanders out starting a true rookie late round pick under center.
  21. Here is VA there are Alabama Spotted bass being moved around and there is a fear of them taking over. https://dwr.virginia.gov/wildlife/fish/alabama-bass/ So i would guess they would be the one to survive best as they can apparently hybridize with the others.
  22. I just use wireless headphones so I don't have to worry about the possibility. I do know sounds travels faster in water and i would bet banging around in the bottom of the boat makes more of a difference than any music playing. I do think it is annoying to hear music playing from anbother boat though, kind of like the people who leave their music on while pumping gas.
  23. Soft bodied swim baits and craws or other soft plastics.
  24. Hog island skiffs are also plastic boats that are used for river use but you can put a 60hp jet on theirs. This boat is really cool though but I am not paying that much for one with only a 9.9hp I'll bet they would have been allowed in kayak tournaments if they were marketed with a Torqeedo
  25. they are useful when nosehooking soft plastics and dead drifting on rivers, at least they are for me.
