  1. understandable. My next vehicle will probably be a truck and I will get rid of the trailer and just use the bed. I like the trailer though as it serves as storage and I can be on the road in about 10 minutes from deciding to pulling out of my driveway.
  2. I am not a hard hookset guy but depending on the technique i will swing a little harder and nothing is better than a solid hookset and you don't feel the fish move. On a fly rod i am a needle sharp hook and strip set with slight lift guy.
  3. The whole taking everything out is why i got a trailer.....i was tired of taking everything off after each trip and reinstalling it at the ramp.
  4. my old wrangler was the same way. I did them once and hated life and they lasted long enough i never had to do them again before i sold it
  5. I'll take swapping brakes over a clutch any day of the week, except drums
  6. brakes are cheaper lol
  7. We really are lucky with the innovations that have come to the kayak world in the last 10 years or so. When i started kayak fishing it was find a suitable SOT and modify it to fish from as best you could and I did just that and loved it. People were DIYing everything imaginable and now, if you thought of it, somebody probably made it for you
  8. There is a thread on here solely on pond prowlers that you may want to check out. I am a kayak guy so I am biased towards that but it is also all I know for 20+ years really. I have a great paddling, stable kayak that i put a motor on almsot two years ago and couldn't be happier for my needs.
  9. Longer length is easier to maneuver in the way they are loading. Also, what Kayak weighs 175? Pretty sure the autopilot is under that and you can take the motor out for loading which you would want to do if cartopping anyways most likely and that is probably 25lbs or so. cartoppign a kayak is as much about technique as it is strength. I used to cartop my 100lb ATAK 140 on a Jeep Wrangler with a small lift and it wasn't that bad. Just gotta find the tru balance point and it is more than manageable.
  10. I find river fish in general, all species i hve caught, are way more opportunistic than their lake counterparts. Many times they are at the mercy of the river system and current to provide food and since they don't have hands, they gotta eat stuff without thinking as much as we think they should. There is also the confidence piece which some may not agree with but if yo uare confident a bait will catch fish you will be more in tune with what is going on at the end of your line. So I guess the answer is, sometimes.
  11. No clue but there are days where the half of a foam pool noodle that is about 6-8" wide is packed with flies drying out as i try to figure out the bite. Other days, i never have to change unless I lose it.
  12. I think i got mine from Harbor freight as well when I did mine.
  13. As a fellow river angler myself I can probably bet you lose more than $50 worth of baits in a season to One thing to remember too is that LEDs can handle vibration and impact very well and also will never need to be replaced. I just replaced my trailer lights with LEDs after trying to chase down a faulty connection somewhere. Well worth the afternoon of rewiring and $50.
  14. Here is a good one-targeted towards fly anglers but still applicable https://www.amazon.com/Fly-Fishing-Smallmouth-Streams-Bob-Clouser/dp/0811719774
  15. oh you meant those compact deals. They still have some like that now actually but not as many as back then as the vehicles have grown in size.
  16. yeah I will stick to what we are doing now lol I don't think we are moving backwards it's just you aren't moving forward I'd like to see which pickups got that kind of gas mileage in the 80's though......
  17. cast to your TV if it is capable or spend like $30 on a firestick and problem solved
  18. i am not sure if they are but I know the NK180 is.
  19. Newport Vessels NK180S. I got it in February 2021, pretty sure i was one of the first to get one. I was set on a torqeedo and saved up the cash to get one and this motor came out and I gave it hard look and for the price, I went for it and couldn't be happier. Pushes my then ATAK 140 and now ATAK 120 close to 6mph at full throttle and works great for solo river shuttles. It is basically the equivalent of an almost 2hp motor which i think is like 60LB thrust or so which for the weight of me and my kayak is plenty. I have mine set up for stick steering instead of the normal foot steering, had that on my ATAK 140 but i went to a stick steer so i can use the pole while standing and going upriver scouting for areas and same for when floating downstream. NK180 kayak motor
  20. I also run Ionic for my kayak battery---2 30ah wired in series to get me the 24v needed. Been using them 2 years now and no concerns. I love their app as well to monitor battery life.
  21. It kind of is the case though if not longer. I know my Li battery has an 11 year warranty.
  22. when floating a river you will alwasys float over fish, it is part of the game. What you need t odo is figure out why they were where they were when you floated over them and look for those places further away. Around here the rivers are always clear and low in summer and it is about location more than anything. Once you figure out that location preference start looking for similar spots.
  23. best comment on the thread....
  24. I hope the next world record is caught and the fisherman has multiple livescope and 10 15" screens and everything else available to them. I also hope it is at a highly pressured lake so people can't say it was away from crowds etc....oh and I want it caught on livebait too I look forward to that banter
  25. i would have a place on the susquehanna in central PA for spring through fall and then south florida somewhere for winter
