please be smarter than me. back injury moving kayak.
kayaks are definitely harder to handle than people think but I am glad you are on the mend. Flexibility is something I need to work on as well. Just an FYI though, unless you have a Hobie. don't use a scupper cart or you will break the scuppers at some point.

Clear Coat Q from a non-builder
fly tyers have been using nail polish in the color you want to seal flies for years. A bunch of coats and you can then cover it in clear if you want and it will be good to go. I also use SolarEz bone dry for thin coverage and they make a flex version that is also clear as well.

- How to fix leakage - Fishing Kayak?
What terrible knockoff kayak is that? The pedal design looks destiend to leak and cause issues. Only thing you can really do is try a better rubber gasket or design a latch system that keeps it tighter but i am guessing the tolerances aren't that great so it may be a constant battle. Also, it looks like there are scuppers on there so let them do their job and you shouldn't sink or even have that much accumulate in there unless the deck design has the same designerss as the pedal drive lol- Kayak Fishing PFD
I won't go to anything but an auto inflate unless i have to these days. So much cooler and more comfortable. There are two types, one is hydrostatic and the type that activates via immersion. Hydrostatic is more expensive and there is zero chance of accidental inflation from getting wet as it goes by pressure of the water. The other type has a little pill that dissolves when wet. I have used mine ofr years in heavy rain and never had it go off on accident as of yet. If money wasn't an issue i would get a hyrdrostatic one but the otherstyle has suited my well the past few years.- Kayak Fishing PFD
Nobody I know of wears a Type I PFD. You are correct in the standard PFD you see won't pop an unconscious person upright but the other styles won't prevent you from doing that yourself should you be somewhat conscious. 90% of the time I am wearing my auto inflate PFD and the other 10% is if I am going to an area where i might fall in or a multi day trip where i don't want to rearm. Since I switched to the auto inflate it is automatic to put it on and I don't even realize it is on. I have actually driven home with it on before.- A different kind of kayak accessory
I got an Apple Watch for pretty much the same reasons and couldn't be happier. while mine has the capability of being a standalone piece, I haven't had the need yet to pony up the extra $10 a month for that feature. I pretty much always have my phone nearby and the bluetooth range is probably closer to 50' if not more if it is a clear path. I can even download music to it and play straight from my watch too.- Solarflex shirt/apparel
I have a bunch of different brands from Simms, Shimano, Under Armor etc....they all work decent and some are definitley heavier than others but they all do their job. I haven't found them to be any better wet or dry as some have mentioned. They are sythetic so any oisture will evaporate pretty quickly by design as the synthetic fibers cannot hold much moisture so t wicks away across a larger section of material and evaporates quickly.- Kayak Warranty-Wilderness Systems
Yeah i didn't even think about that when I sent it because i know UV damage makes things brittle but it was flexing when i stood on it for sure lol I'll plastic weld it while i wait for the replacement- Kayak Warranty-Wilderness Systems
I bought my current kayak back in 2015, a Wilderness Systems ATAK 140. I absolutely love this kayak and it has served me well over the 7 years I have owned it on everything from streams you can cast across to out in the bay in the OBX and everything in between. It was the first kayak I bought in my decades long kayak fishing career that after a year I wasn't looking for the next one. Last trip out while standing to fish as I normally do, I noticed a crack by one of the scuppers. I didn't think anything of it and I sent them some pics and they said it was UV damaged so no warranty. This is the first pic I sent. I didn't bother cleaning my kayak, well because I never do and it is stored outside and well supported on my trailer and covered 90% of the time. So I called customer service and expressed my concerns and they sid well why don't you clean it up and see if that can show better the famage becuase it absolutley looks like UV damage. I said sure and sen a pic but it was still wet so they said can you send another one when dry. I obliged and sent this pic. Night and day difference as you can see. They responded with yup, all that dirt made it look like a UV problem so it will be warrantied for sure. Unfortunately they do not make this kayak anymore so I will be getting a new 12' version of the same kayak, different color, which I am ok with. Since I am about 2 hours from the nearest dealer, they will be shipping me out a new kayak once i show them this hull is destroyed and no longer usable. They said I can still use it till i get the notification my kayak is ready to ship, 6-8 weeks. I think I will use my chainsaw to show it is trashed Cool part is i can keep all the parts and use them as i see fit so that is a win win for me. So kudos to Wilderness for taking care of me and working through some details and standing behind their product. And for any kayak owners out there looking for a warranty....clean it first and save the hassle Now I get to rig up a new kayak which is fun up until it cuts into fishing time of course. .- What’s night fishing like?
no need for any lights unless it is very overcast or a new moon. let your eyes adjust and you would be surprised at what you can see. I enjoy fishing at night out of my kayak nad have had some killer nights doing it. I do have a head lamp with a red light should i need to retie but I usually am throwing big stuff whether it is topwater or jigs etc....gotta appeal to that lateral line.- Help Me Outfit My Bass Fishing Kayak
Sounds like a solid first trip out. As far as the scupper thing goes, as long as the water isn't pooling it is draining. I checked out the specs and it is cool they list a self bailing weight cap as well and i would say the close you get to that weight, the more water will you see come through the scuppers.- Ideas to Hang Kayak from Garage Rafters?
be careful if i gets hot up there as it can warp the kayak. I'd try and put the supports closer to the center of the kayak.- Why is it so difficult to find rod socks longer than 5.5 feet? I feel like this can’t be good for my 7’+ rods to keep the tip bent like this.
I just make my own using hat was posted above and some heat shrink tubing. Made them for my fly rods as I like to leave them assembled for heading to the lake or river and to get a fly specific one was ridiculous. I made probably 15 total for the price of probably 3-4 if i bought them.- how long does it take for all your Kayak stuff?
I can go from decision to leave to actually leaving in about 10-15 minutes. Strap the kayak down on the trailer hook up the trailer throw the fly rods in the car grab crate grab motor & battery Leave the driveway Coming back takes a little longer because i usually have flies and water bottles and junk to empty out of the kayak plus loading it on the trailer but having taken a kayak out fishing for a couple decades it becomes second nature.- The true world record
A whole lot which was the point of my post actually.- Does my rod suck, or is just not right for what I'm using it for
What casting mechanics are you talking about as I have never heard this before in relation to spinning rod users.- securing rods in a canoe/kayak
I have been using omegas for a few years now primarily for fly rods and they are fantastic and offer a lot of adjustability and are very secure. They are also one of the few rod holders out there that do well with spinning, baitcasters and fly rods.- The true world record
So any fish caught outside its native range would not be eligible for a record.- The true world record
so by your definition I'd be curious as to what would constitute a world record. Would the fish have to be a native to the area and not stocked at some point? The largemouth is only native to a few areas really.- Things that make you realize you should be slower to judge others.
what kind of boat are you running to put out that type of wake? I know for me in my kayak I will take a guy on plane going by over just about anything else, way less disruption- Anybody Tried Foot Operated Trolling Motor In Kayak
I have seen a lot of motorized kayaks and have never seen a foot operated via pedal one. I can't imagine there being enough space on a kayak to have a pedal and be able to balance on one foot basically and work the motor and fish. i don't know why you wouldn't want to just use the remote for a multitude of reasons one being ease of use and another being weight savings.- The true world record
It is when it comes to the defintion of what constitutes a world record. If people don't like it then they need to go ahead and make another governing body to serve as the holder for all the fishing world records or get the rules changed as to what makes a record a record. If none of that happens, it is easy in this case to know it was not a world record.- The true world record
There are regulations on what makes a record a record and the fish didn't meet the record so the easy answer is no and there isn't much else to it really. - Post a photo a day!
