  1. only line i will stretch is fly lines. If i have to do that on any other lines to get them to be more manageable I am putting on fresh lines or switching entirely.
  2. you have to be cruising to cover that much water in 14 hours.
  3. Good choice. I am sure you will be happy with it. I will also be curious as to the ease of assembly. Mine wasn't hard but it did take a decent amount of time. I have thought about mounting the ski rack upside down on the bars on mine if i needed space but i haven't tried it yet because, well I don't need the space lol
  4. Just make sure when you put the rods in there you aren't cranking down on an eye and also use rod socks to prevent any road stuff from chipping them. I probably should use reel covers too but i don't have them so i haven't. I know Yakima just came out with a lockable box with rod storage on the inside too. Too expensive for what it is for me but it is pretty cool stuff.
  5. i use a yakima ski rack for my rods and it works great and the rods aren't banging around into each other in a tube.
  6. Removing everything from the Voodoo would be a pain. I'd probably just get one or two j cradles and put the paddle board in the middle or something. You may even be able to just get one cradle and have the others side by side. I use my trailer for storage too by the way...i put 4" PVC pipe as runners and have them spaced out so there is no additional support needed. I just loosen the straps when i get home and when i am ready to head out again, i just tighten everything down and go.
  7. they have since made some upgrades to the trailers and the new ones are looking pretty good i have to admit. I have the cage for mine and i don't even use it anymore but i wonder if you could use one and slide the Kaku underneath the other boats. You can aways go with cradles and fit way more than 3 on there anyways.
  8. When i got my trailer i looked at the yakima rack and roll and ended up getting a sports rig trailer. Same basic idea of a cartop rack on wheels but i liked that it was made in the USA and it could carry more weight. I think the rack and roll is only rated to like 250lbs and if you upgrade the shocks it is at 350lb where the sports rig is rated up to 450. With you hauling 3 kayaks, you will be past that 250 rating. The reason i went with a purpose built trailer is the design aspects. it is made to do what i want it to do. The independent suspension works flawlessly and i have no fears on the highway of the trailer having issues. I know the Yakima trailer is a nice one too and i don't think you would be disappointed with it either. I have had my trailer for 4 or 5 years now and have had no issues at all. They are also a good company to work with. When mine was shipped they had some foam they sprayed in to help fusion it but it got on the frame, purely a cosmetic issue but they offered to replace it or give me a bunch of accessories, so i took the accessories option. Another plus is both the yakima and the sports rig are light enough to be moved by hand. I use mine almost as a cart because backing it up isn't easy given how short it is.
  9. This is my preference.
  10. I had no idea you could leave it out. I remember cleaning my reels the first time and i had the same thing left over and i took it back apart to put it back lol I know when i do my next cleanings i will leave it out...learn something new every day
  11. gotcha, that makes more sense then. More of a friendly or personal competition kind of deal.
  12. Pretty sure that is the anti reverse pawl, part number 2404 on the below schematic.
  13. Maybe I am overthinking this but that seems like more work than just cull tags or something similar. I am pretty sure i saw cull tags that have floats on them that allow you to spin the dial to show the weight of the fish.
  14. yeah it is crazy. I still can't believe the spike and how quick it happened.
  15. We were deluged with rain last night into today and it blew out the river, I just hope it doesn't impact the spawn too much. To put the river level into perspective, I was out there on the the 5th and the river levels were around 4.5' and there were certain areas where paddling upstream was a losing battle but it was still manageable. Guess I will focus on lake fishing for a little while...unfortunately.
  16. Just a couple more ties tonight. I don't have the right materials for the head on this one but it worked. Ironically enough, the white one I did first and I think it looks better than the second one. I got a little careless on the second one and when i try and tie tomorrow I will fix that situation for sure. Bot should catch some fish though, to bad the rivers are gonna be blown out for a while.
  17. Maybe you said this somewhere else but i saw you are 19 so do you still live at home? You said "my" boat in your post as well so I am assuming that is yours and not the family boat too. I'll just cut to the chase on this one. You sound like a crybaby to me. You'll come to a public forum and complain that your parents want to spend time with you fishing but you don't want them to because it is your release. That is fine but if you can come here and say something why not be a man and talk to them about it or better yet learn to appreciate it because I will guarantee that one day you will long for the days that you can go fishing with your parents.
  18. Good setups for sure. I’m not a fan or harbor freight trailers myself as I’ve read a lot of horror stories. I prefer prose built trailers, especially ones that are rated for speeds above 45mph.
  19. yeah these are tied on a belly bumper hook so if you weight the shank it flips the fly hook point up every time. It also has an extended straight section after the eye that lets you build the head how you want it. Great hook and i am gonna work on a craw pattern with it too...i have a few ideas in my head already
  20. Got some new materials and I think I like them. Tried them out on another keel weighted fly going for a more slender profile and a little more flash.
  21. Tied up a couple craws last night.
  22. Here is what i envisioned yesterday when i was on the river and this is what I came up with tonight. Turned out ok but we will see how it fishes.
  23. Dry suit is the best way to go and the safest without question. That being said, like has been mentioned previously, it is about risk mitigation. I personally wear chest waders and boots with a dry top and have zero worries about being submerged in a lake type situation. I tested out this combination multiple times and very little water if any gets inside my waders. On moving water the situation may be different. I have caught some of my biggest fish in winter and I truly enjoy winter fishing, you just have to be smart about it and you will be fine.
  24. I haven't spilt colors on a game changer yet, most people i know use some sort of chenille, body fur or body wrap etc... Marabou is a wonderful material. I don't think anything synthetic will ever match it to be honest. If you are looking for a good video on stacking materials, check out this video from Kelly Galloup on the belly bumper. you can fast forward to near the end when he was working on the head portion. He isn't sticking the hair per se but the end result is the same and way easier to tie. https://midcurrent.com/videos/how-to-tie-a-belly-bumper-bunker/
