  1. I have a pork butt defrosting as we speak...
  2. yes and no....lol so i was reading about the puglisi material and i have used it and like it but i also read about getting bonnie cord which is the same material and basically brushing it out so that is what i did. I bought a few colors and brushed it out and it works great. I know also have probably 5 lifetimes worth supply of the colors i bought for a fraction of the price. I also got some wire to make the brushes so you can wrap the material as well which is what I did on the other baitfish fly on this post. Just ordered some stuff to tie some different patterns so we will see how it goes.
  3. you won't really know the best place for the battery until you mock everything up really. Me personally i like the battery towards the front so if there is connection that works loose or something i can get to it more easily on the water. As far as the extension arm goes, just make sure wherever you put it, it is out of the way of your paddle stroke and potential disturbance in the water from your paddle stroke as well.
  4. Looks like Ohio lists a 20" bass as a trophy so i would start there. I have caught 20" bass that can vary in weight by 1-2 lbs so your mileage may vary. As far as mounting goes, that is your call. I have caught a couple pretty bug bass for her win VA, one measured just shy of 26" but i neglected to get a replica or anything because I know there are bigger ones out there. Of course that was caught 5-6 years ago and I have yet to replicate the feat but that doesn't keep me from trying.
  5. you can either use on of the arms styles mentioned already or you can just cut an access hatch somewhere and go that route. Your transducer will not work through a layer of plastic, then air then plastic again, or at least not properly.
  6. yeah, make the hour or so drive, totally worth it, only problem is you won't want to go back to the Delaware again lol
  7. Haven't in years but grew up fishing the Delaware and various tributaries for smallies. My parents still live up there and we have gone out for stripers a few times but haven't gone after smallies in a few years. if we meet up to fish for smallies we meet at the susquehanna instead
  8. I have always liked throwing bigger flies. Even when my primary focus was brown trout i threw the same flies i did for smallmouth and did pretty well. I mean bass eat big stuff so why not throw it. It is also nice when someone asks you about "what can you catch on that thing, sunnies", and you show them a 6" fly you are throwing
  9. Yeah i am just wondering why the money i saved never makes it to the fishing budget lol
  10. Not the schools job to do that. Learn that at home or go to a tech high school or just learn on your own online as there are a ton of resources available. now as far as saving money goes doing your own maintenance and repairs, it helps a lot. I know on our last house I built the deck out back when it needed replacing. Since i was the labor, we ended up being able to have a deck that was probably twice as large and much nicer materials than if i paid someone. I will pretty much try anything but i also grew up with my dad who was an electrician and did residential construction in the summer up through college.
  11. There aren't a lot of places with them but they are here. Now their little cousin the chain pickerel are everywhere and provide some good action and act just like their bigger relatives.
  12. Given the warm weather I decided to go ahead and get my garden set up and ready to go. Gotta get some more garden soil delivered but other than that, I am ready to go. I follow square foot gardening principles so i got to use my inner analytical brain and organize the garden to maximize usage. The cucumbers, zucchinis and golden squash grow up a trellis over that section and the beets grow underneath. Worked out pretty well last year. I plan on also planting spinach and lettuce in two week cycles to fill in the areas to the right so I can harvest every couple of weeks without it all bolting or getting too large and tough.
  13. For being so knowledgable about what does or doesn't matter you wouldn't think you would need to ask the question. I know you don't want a PVC rod tube on top of the car but yakima makes a rod locker now that is lockable, i think it is called the topwater. Depending on your vehicle that you won't share, this may fit on the inside of the vehicle as well and provide locked security.
  14. Nothing closed here in VA that I am aware of and i hope to find some social distance on them this weekend too
  15. I read your question and asked a further clarifying questions as to the purpose as that can change the recommendations presented. It also might help to say what type of vehicle, how long the rods are etc.... Sorry to get you all up in your feelings over a response...good luck in your search for a product to solve a problem you won't define and get defensive when asked for more details.
  16. why does it have to be locked while inside the car itself? Just lock the doors of the car and be done with it....
  17. I try not to be careless either but it is inevitable at times. Just curious but what is wrong with wanting to save the Earth?
  18. you can do the same thing your wife did in the dressing room of the store. You are taking a rod to a lake and trying to keep it looking "new" but are using it in a real world situation. Same thing with shoes. I used to work at an outdoor store for a while and i would tell every customer who bought boots or shoes the same thing, you can wear them around your house all you want and bring them back but as soon as you step outside, they are no longer in new condition and cannot be returned. It was pretty easy to tell who wore them outside too. Same thing applies here. Try it out at home in your yard even but don't take it out and actually fish with it because at that point it is no longer new.
  19. Crankbait depth is determined by bill design mainly and then line diameter. The ability for braid to "float" doesn't impact the baits depth but rather the ability to use smaller diameter line does impact diving depth. You also won't get a foot or two more depth by running flouro.
  20. When i am not fly fishing for smallies, I always have a skirted jig of some sort tied on when fishing for smallies, usually a football head or a confidencebaits.net dragging head battle craw finesse jig.
  21. I like to use braid on cranking as it allows for a smaller diameter line to get deeper faster. I usually go with 8lb diameter and haven't had issues losing fish. Loosen the drag a little more than normal and let the parabolic action of the cranking rod do it's job.
  22. Maybe I am in the minority here but if he fishes the rod, he shouldn't be returning it since it is no longer new. As far as testing sensitivity is concerned, the lawn idea works but it is also subjective.
  23. now if you want to talk about a pricey set up lol Why go with a PA if you are going to motorize it? just curious as me and my dad have had the conversation and I have said if i was gonna go for something other than a paddle kayak i would just motorize it instead and then i can have a good paddling boat that has a motor
  24. In case you didn't know, the cost of an item isn't just materials. And yes, toyota makes more money but they have nothing even remotely close to the performance or prestige of a ferrari. There are also not too many toyotas that go up in value but there are a lot of ferraris that do.... I am not sure on the numbers for sales but i would also bet they are near the top in kayak sales as well as they also have a very large recreational paddle division as well.
  25. Hobie are the only kayaks that are designed to use a scupper cart I believe. And yes, you absolutely can damage a boat by anchoring through the scooper, besides that, who wants a pole sticking up in the middle of their boat. I'd much rather use my trolley to be able to adjust for the wind.
