  1. Kastking makes a good braid as well.
  2. Always a full spool. None of my reels hold that much line so the difference is negligible. I also never let them get down to half way either as it effects casting and inches per turn. Braid i let go a little longer before I replace it but when it is my copolymer (don't use flouro) i replace line pretty frequently. Cheap insurance in my mind. I was out today with a freshly spooled reel and on a backcast it caught a rod behind me (fishing from a kayak has some inherent risks) and backlashed to the point I had to cut it out. It took about a quarter spool of line and that will be getting replaced this weekend for sure.
  3. Eagles if healthy will come out of the NFC. They are stacked on offense and probably have the best front 7 and O lines in football. redskins are a dumpster fire from all angles, The giants could surprise some people, even without OBJ. The cowboys, well its always there year but it never seems to work that way. There is a lot going on in Jerry world off the field with players getting arrested, holdouts, people wanting big contracts etc... KC is poised to continue playing well and should do just that. It will be interesting to see if Mahommes can adjust now that teams have a full year of tape on him but Reid is probably the best coach to never win a super bowl with maybe Levy there too.
  4. i matched the same reel (older model) to a curado 6'10" MXF and it does a good job.
  5. I honestly don't have one favorite brand. I have owned probably 7-8 different brands and only a few I wouldn't buy again for the most part. I do have my preferences but that can change. A few year ago all I used pretty much were St. Croix and Kistler and now I am using Dobyns and Shimano and a St. Croix. Only brands I have owned that I wouldn't buy again are Abu Garcia and Quantum.
  6. nope, they get dulled out enough by themselves. I have read articles where Mike Iaconelli said he used to leave his baits on the dashboard of his truck to fade them out prior to fishing them.
  7. it is around 5 miles so it al depends on water levels and if you are fishing etc...
  8. My dog doesn't have anxiety or get worked up over stuff like fireworks but he is a 140lb rottie and he rarely if ever whines from hip pain as he gets up anymore, I ran out once and it was about a week before I could get some more and in that week he started whining again when he got up.
  9. nice bowfin. I love catching them and they are highly underrated sport fish for sure.
  10. I know it works for my dog but I have yet to try it for myself.
  11. I don't like the pad crasher myself but have become partial to the terminator walking and popping frogs. I have also recently tried the river2sea spitting frog and really like it. Bottom line is there are a lot of good frogs out there. My favorite for walking is the megabass pony gabot but the durability makes a yamamoto senko look like a piece of steel.
  12. To me the rod power isn't as much about the cover as it is the baits I am throwing. From what you described, a M power rod should be ok but I seem to have a tough time getting solid hooksets on those types of baits in anything less than a MH. Each rod is different though so one that is more on the MH side of the M curve might be a good solution.
  13. if you're sitting still it will basically just keep reading the same slice of the water over and over and that is what you will see on the screen. It shouldn't be fuzzy though as you described no matter what the speed.
  14. My dad is notorious for this and I am too but have gotten better. As a kid I used to help my dad as he was an electrician and had his own business. We go out for a service call on a house he did a 200 amp service on years before because the homeowner was having issues with one breaker continuing to trip. So we get out there, my dad says yup the breaker is bad. I go out to the truck and get the breaker and come back in and I see my dad taking off the panel cover so he can access the breaker. I look in the bottom of the panel and lo and behold, a nice pair Klein linesman pliers. My dad picks them up, takes a look at them and says I was wondering where those went....i had to check and sure enough they had his initials engraved in them like all of his tools did.
  15. I'll pass on catching small ones all day over a few big ones. If i start catching smaller ones I move and rethink my strategy because generally I haven't seen large and smaller fish hang out in the same locations.
  16. Huh? And by invasive you mean the ones you don’t like, right?
  17. I don't think it was algae but it was all murky and water was down some. Not sure if they opened up the dam a little to let more water through and that was stirring it all up or what. It was almost like a fall turnover kind of deal. I actually had to turn off the fish alarm because it was going crazy
  18. Caught a couple small ones but the lake had something going on with it. There was stuff floating everywhere and a slick on the water. I got there around 6 or so and stayed out till about midnight. My electronics were acting wacky too, side imagine was ok but down imaging and traditional sonar was all cluttered up. I am hoping it was just because of all the "stuff" in the water but we will have to see next time I go out there.
  19. I'd stick with yakima or Thule. You can either go in somewhere and get everything you need or just order it online. With one kayak i wouldn't use J cradles. I had them before and hated the way they made my kayak become a sail while driving. I then switched over to just strapping it to the rails and it made my life easier. Now I have a trailer and wouldn't go back to not having one unless I had to for some reason.
  20. I wouldn't bother. Inflatable kayaks are built to bounce off stuff unless you get one of the cheap ones. I mean rafting places take them out al season long and have no issues. They can absorb a lot of impact without puncturing. I asked our raft guide a few years back how often do they see holes from the river on the single person kayaks or the rafts. He said in his 5+ years as a raft guide on eh new river he never saw one from rocks. Only time he saw them was from careless use of river knives.
  21. I have less wind knots with braid than i have when i used to use floro or mono. Use 6 or 8lb diameter braid and you will be fine. I also second the sharp hooks and with that long of a cast and mono it is going ot be hard to get a solid hookset without the sharp hooks. I would also wonder if with a ML rod if you are even getting a solid hookset, i wouldn't use anything but a M at the least.
  22. It happens. In my yeas of kayaking i have noticed that when i lay my rods down they all pretty much are leaning in the same spot all the time and i have had rods break and it took me a little while to figure out why it was happening. Once i put 2 + 2 together and figured out it was from where i laid them down it hasn't happened since. I now try and be more careful as to where i place the rods and try to move them somewhat so they are not being placed in the same spot all the time. I have also seen tips snap after line gets rapped around it and you apply too much pressure and it basically snaps them clean off. Sucks but it happens....
  23. Just put them loose in a small box, i mean that is basically how they are shipped all the time.
  24. I am thinking a night fishing excursion is in the works for me tonight. Temps should be reasonable comparatively speaking and moon should provide al the light i need. Hope to get out around an hour before sunset and fish till i am either freaked out by the bats too much or i run out of alcohol....
  25. just make sure whatever rod you decide on it doesn't have the same reel seat at the very minimum. I have been using a curado 6'10 MXF for weightless soft plastics and i switched over from a st croix rage rod after I broke a guide. No complaints and it does the job very well.
