  1. jerry mckinnis, Al Linder and Lefty all come to mind for me.
  2. the cockpits on most ***' kayaks of the same model are usually about the same, not sure about 10'. Only way you will know if you will fit is to go sit in one. I wouldn't recommend a 10' kayak to anyone except a kid or for a specific purpose like smaller water/creeks. 12' will be a better balance of tracking and speed.
  3. I ried a fluke on a baitcaster more than once and casting isn't an issue, they are heavier than you think but I just didn't like it. I use a 6'10"MXF rod paired with a 2500 sized reel with 30lb braid tied direct. This set up has caught me countless Virginia length citations and I don't hesitate to throw it any type of cover. Flukes isn't about the gear as much as it is learning to work them and detect a strike as it can be difficult at times. it is a more slack line presentation so you won't always feel the hit but you can usually see it or sense it lol
  4. small zip ties work as well and are pretty easy to put on, just get the smallest ones you can find.
  5. I said this tongue in cheek to show how pointless of a comment he made. I don't even care what people fish out of as long as you have fun out there.
  6. And I think that many people who get boats are just fat and/or out of shape and don't have ability to fish out of a kayak.
  7. I went through this same question 15+ years ago. I decided on a kayak for a few reasons: -majority of lakes around me are HP restricted or electric only -storage -cost to operate -expense both up front and maintenance -can always motorize it later -transportation of boat Kayaks can fish anywhere a larger boat can but the real limitations are storage on the boat, distance covered in a day, number of people fishing with you and comfort depending on your preference. I have no concerns fishing where there is boat traffic and have done it a lot but it isn't really needed where I live. Since that decision I have bought many different kayaks and the market for fishing specific kayaks is so great right now. There are so many options in all price ranges. Ultimately it becomes your preference on which one you want to fish from. There is a learning curve involved with fishing from a kayak but there is also one in a boat as well.
  8. I like my Yozuri hybrid line and it is pretty much all i use on set ups that aren't braid.
  9. if you want more weedless then forego the screw lock as it will pick up more vegetation than plain plastic will. You have a couple options really. Go with a weighted swimsuit hook that is NOT a screw lock, there are also those free swinging jig heads for swimbaits that comes through weeds pretty well and then there is the pegged texas rigged method as well. I have used all with success. The other thing that can aid in the grass not sticking is to slather your bait up with some mega strike or something similar that will help the bait to get through the weeds more easily.
  10. Quite a few of the lakes I fish get to that temperature. I have caught them shallow and deeper. if there is any type of moving water hit there first and if not search for a spot that has even a few degrees cooler water. I have caught some of my best fish in those temps shallop in lilly pads.
  11. As a jig trailer i prefer the rage. For other presentations I will take the zoom. The zoom also makes a good chatterbait trailer when put on with the claws vertical.
  12. I fish from a kayak so I am always fishing alone even when I am with other people. Even then, I am used to doing it by myself so that is what I am used to.
  13. agreed but the major difference, at least that is what i tell myself when i buy one, is one fly rod can do the same things well as like 4 conventional rods.
  14. I have three of them. My 2 spinning rods have broken guides so they are awaiting for me to send them back to be repaired but my casting rod is still in the quiver for use. I do really like them and the reel set never was an issue for me. The guides are somewhat fragile but not too bad. I figured out why mine were breaking though and it was totally user error in how I was traveling with them in my kayak. I am gonna send mine back to be repaired for sure. Good rods and for $80 it is a good deal. I don't think you will find another rod better for that kind of money out there.
  15. The regs are what they are so you gotta abide by them. Besides can you prove that there were other hooks in there that shook free? I remember watching one tournament out in california and someone caught a fish and him and his marshall looked at the fish and tried to make the determination if it was hooked in or out of the mouth. This happened more than once and some kept their fish and others didn't risk it and threw them back.
  16. yup i saw that on social media. Dude seemed like he was also changing fish ID tags as well and using other people's fish. It is part of the reason i don't do tournaments but I am kind of itching to do them for some reason....
  17. I'll take details over not any day of the week and that applies to most of my life as well. More information, that is accurate, isn't a bad thing. In fishing, details don't always matter but the best fisherman I have had the pleasure of fishing with definitely are very detail oriented. Limiting variables and even knowing what the variables are can make ones angling skills increase a lot.
  18. 5lb 6oz frog fish. He totally destroyed my frog as you can see.
  19. I threw one last night and for the first time in as long as I can remember I didn't get a single blow up. The noise they make and the associated toilet bowl flush is one of my favorite things to have happen while fishing.
  20. If they are I hope their frogs go on sale because they have become my go to frog bait.
  21. how far you trying to cast? I mean the curado K will hold over 100 yards of 50lb braid
  22. yakattak for me. the lever lock is a great piece. I also don't use a ring for mine and instead use a carabineer that i wrapped in gorilla tape. Makes it easier to get anchor lines and stakeout poles in and out.
  23. I have but i find hand pulling does a better job and allows me to pick out the fatty pieces that may not have rendered. I haven't used it on pork but that is what i do when i make shredded chicken, well not the kitchen aid just a hand mixer but the kitchen aid is a better idea. Which attachment do you use?
  24. Just a pork butt i made for the wife's potluck at work....
