  1. I am a dad, a teacher and a coach. But I would have said the exact same thing before i was any of those....probably because i never gave up on anything worth working for in my life.
  2. Little success means there is some there so you need to build off that.
  3. Haven't fished either so i can't help with which is fishing better but it sounds like you already answered your own question. If you want something you are more comfortable with then go with the lake but if you want to branch out and work on your river skills than the river is the ticket. Either place will be better than working
  4. Cut the legs shorter and that will help. I usually cut them to the length of the frog body and then trim as needed. I can also walk non popping versions better myself. Also slow down and watch the bait and what you are doing so you can replicate the motion. Other than that, just practice....I can walk pretty much every frog i have thrown once i establish the force needed and cadence for each frog.
  5. I prefer a purpose built trailer for sports aka roof rack on wheels myself. I know a ton of people love the harbor freight trailers and do great things with them but i am pretty sure the majority are not rated for highway speeds and i have seen enough of them bouncing around on rough roads due to suspension that is designed to carry more weight. My trailer is expensive but i have had zero concerns on the highway or back roads due to the motorcycle suspension and tires that are used. All that being said, the Hullavator is an awesome product. My dad had one and it was great for loading on his kia something or other he had at the time.
  6. Good frog and I generally use a popping frog unless it is really thick stuff and the standard version gets through it better without getting hung up. Another good one is the terminator popping and walking frog.
  7. I use a circle hook as well and it all but eliminates deep hooked fish. it is also a great way for beginners to get their feet wet in river fishing where bites can be difficult to detect at times. I had some custom 4" stick baits made where they double dipped the head in clear plastic for durability and it works great using the same technique.
  8. Most times i go there because i have gift cards and i do have a rewards credit card from there so i use it during their spring sale which has some good deals. it is also a nice place to check out stuff in person before ordering. All that being said, I usually go to the local place about 2 miles form my house whenever possible.
  9. nose hooked and dead sticked always produces for me.
  10. I am in a kayak and i used to go the retie route but i changed my mind and am glad i did. I generally take 6 or 7 rods with me when i go with my conventional gear or 3 when fly fishing. Easier to grab a new rod than retie.
  11. They go wherever they can to avoid the current. it could be way deep under the current or up in the newly flooded areas as the current there won't be as strong. Growing up in PA near the Delaware river a family friend who lived on the river on more than one occasion would have to take all the fish that were on her property after a flooding rain back to the river as the waters receded. I know one lake i fish regularly here in central VA water levels are way up and for the past 3 weeks i have been catching fish way shallow in any cover that is available from docks to trees to bushes.
  12. if it is a clean bite through it is probably a turtle. I have seen it happen on more than one occasion.
  13. If it was regular season there would be some suspensions for sure but this is the finals and nobody wants to see it decided because of a minor skirmish that was really nothing. I'll bet that the refs call it super tight at first in game 2 until they feel it all out. I would't be surprised one bit though if Green does something to agitate the cavs and it backfires.
  14. I have been using Harry's since they started and no complaints at all. I wouldn't go back to another brand now. I also shave my head so they get some use and stay sharp for a long time. You can now get them in target but if you ship them, they are pretty fast. I even contacted my sales person and asked if they had some of the older versions of the blades without the trimmer, they can cut my ear if i am not careful when shaving my head, and they sent me what they had for next nothing. Great company....
  15. As soon as Hill went to the line you could see he was tight. He had the chance to do what every kid has done hundreds of times on the playground....hit the two free throws to win the game. The most egregious play was the change from an offensive foul to two shots a few plays prior. That play shouldn't have even been reviewed as it wasn't close to the restricted area. It was a call that should have stayed as called on the court. JR should have just put the shot back up at the very least and if it was a miss there would be next to no time on the clock and they still go to OT. Lebron is a beast though and I told my coworkers i wouldn't be surprised if Lebron averages 50 for the series....
  16. I'll disagree with the midday high sun piece myself. I have caught a lot of my biggest fish during that time of day. It seems to actually condense them for me as long as i am willing to make the changes needed to catch them. As far as being skunked goes, not very often. I don't think it has happened in probably 3-4 years and that was in winter. Now i don't always catch bass though as the lakes i frequent do have a good population of chain pickerel and i will target them in the colder months because, well nothing beats topwater on a 40 degree water temp day
  17. This is nothing new fellas. And i don't think the Warriors sweep and the series will be closer than you anticipate.
  18. you mean snagging on things? The lakes I fish a nose hooked fluke doesn't cut it. I also throw mine into heavy cover a lot and this would just guarantee a snag, I know, because I've tried many times.
  19. 4/0 EWG of your choice. I have been using the berkley fusion hooks since last season when they went on the buy 2 get one free deal at BPS, with success. Nose hooking a fluke does a good job but it will get snagged on everything.
  20. I hope the rockets put the series away tonight and cleveland does tomorrow.
  21. So forgive my ignorance here as i am a fisherman of the paddling variety but do you just trade in your old motor like you would a car and pay the difference or whatever?
  22. Atak 140 is my current kayak pros stable fast Great rigging options to keep it simple or go overboard if you want very shallow draft flex pod Open deck area Cons seat attachment sucks heavy rear rod storage is good for travel but not in use on the water I have owned lots of boats from a bunch of different manufacturers and this is the first one where i haven't thought about upgrading after a year or two. I do want to add a river boat to my arsenal though and am looking at the nu canoe flint.
  23. I am not sure about you but i like to work and get paid and then buy my stuff. I'd also be hesitant on any boat that i would need to put a bunch of time and effort into to get where i want it to be. That additional time and cost should also be factored into your decision on if your job is worth that expense.
  24. That will work but if you have to do it on uneven terrain it can get dicey pretty quick. I saw a person do exactly that and they had to replace a side view mirror when the kayak slid off the bar.
