  1. Might just be the angle but it looks like your transducer is ahead of the fins unless they were in an extreme position. I also wonder if there is a difference with a prop drive rather than fin.
  2. whatever is in the oath of the transducer on either side will return an image so you will need to make sure you clear the prop wash and the prop itself. As far as those units are concerned, i don't have any knowledge on them so I will let others add their input.
  3. yup the frayed rope works very well. Just gott let them chew on it and they ge their teeth tangled and you bring them in, just make sure you have some scissors or something to cut it out of their teeth when you land them.
  4. seems like more marketing BS to me but we will see once i get my hands on one. I have yet to find a rod that doesn't work for me in my kayak and that includes 9' long fly rods. o like that they are on the SC III blanks and at a decent price.
  5. I have been saying it for years that the Nats are a product of a bad division and aren't that good. The one year they had a chance to do something as multiple players were having career years, they mismanaged Strasburg and his innings and said no worries, they will be back. They will probably overpay for Harper too which will hold them hostage for a while and he is NOT worth a huge contract. All that being said, my Phillies are surprisingly ahead of schedule as far as the rebuild is concerned and I am not complaining. if any team has the capability of blowing it at the end of the season, it is them but we will see what happens. We need bullpen help desperately bad an some consistent offense, Machado maybe
  6. Door panels can be a pain, there always seems to be one screw hidden somewhere plus all the clips that inevitably break, which is the exact reason i always buy a box of replacement clips anytime i take a panel off lol.
  7. You take the door panel off and look at the linkage in there? A lot of times when the lock stops working it is just some linkage that is either broken or popped free...If it is just the lock not being able to lock or having to climb through the passenger side or whatever then just do that for now. I mean it isn't a deal breaker and if it won't lock then don't leave anything in there worth stealing for now until you can get it fixed.
  8. Anywhere from an hour to 12+. I have a kayak that standing in isn't an issue so stretching my legs isn't a concern. As far as finding one in your price range i'd look for the used market, especially with a new crop of boats coming out and lots of people will be trying to sell their boats to get the newest model out. Jackson, Native, wilderness systems are all good brands among others.
  9. not technically behind you but behind the transducer depending on where it is located when it grabs the image.
  10. i have always wanted to try a deep diving square bill but i haven't seen any at my local stores so I never bought one. I know this is blasphemy but I am not a huge fan of the SK square bills, they don't produce as well for me as some other brands.
  11. well, maybe it is Darwin taking control and preventing possible propagating of the species
  12. you'd probably wan a better kayak than you could get at walmart but there is no body of water that you can't fish in the right kayak.
  13. That is how fly anglers talk about everyone, not just bass fisherman. I can't tell you how many fly fisherman would scoff at anything but throwing dry flies....until i'd show them pictures of the huge browns i'd caught using big 6" long streamers when the spring creek was running high and looked like chocolate milk I am just trying to figure out what he meant...
  14. huh? A pointy wading pool?
  15. My guess is they were new and wanted to stay close to shore out of fear and lack of knowledge. Hopefully next time they will think about what they are doing and not be so oblivious to what is going on around them. As far as the younger people who want to go paddle around the lake, why can't they do that? I mea they probably think why would someone want to go fishing. Sounds like a get off my lawn type of deal to me. Not everyone is blessed to have been raised with respect for others and the outdoors so I always try and cool off when i talk to people and make it a learning experience and 95% of the time the people are super receptive and had no idea what they were doing. being a kayak fisherman i think other kayak fisherman can be the worst. Seems like they always want to come over and talk about fishing while i am actually fishing. I don't mind for the most part but for me, i try and get far enough away when i see any watercraft that there is no way i am disrupting their fishing or leisure time on the water because that is what we are all out there for, we just have different ways of doing it.
  16. start fly fishing. it is the most fun way to fish without catching out there. if i am have a tough day i never take a break though, i fish harder and try new stuff. Can't get bit without something in the water
  17. Fly rod and slow sinking spider. Just let it drop and do its thing all on its own and they cant resist it. Poppers and other dry flies work but you won't catch as many of the big ones that way in my experience.
  18. it is not required to kill a snakehead unless you are keeping it. Catch and release is totally fine but you can't keep them alive in your live well.
  19. Just be patient, it will get down there in due time. I have done that and gotten some vicious hits as it flutters down the water column at a painstakingly slow pace. if you don't want to wait, i use the weighted hooks from gamakatsu or other brands but i don't like the keeper as it puts the weight in a spot that doesn't help the action. I usually rig the bait prior to tying on so i don't have to thread the weight through the fluke and just retie as needed. Helps me to place the weight more centered or even towards the back of the fluke which makes for great action down deep. Another good hook is the confidence baits draggin' head
  20. I use my fish grips for the purpose you are talking about and it does fine. No bass will thrash them open but i would be more concerned with them potentially injuring themselves.
  21. I mostly use a fly rod when chasing smallies but when going conventional i always seem to do well on topwater and nose hooked 4-5" stick baits dead drifted through likely holes. The biggest key for a kayak angler in the river is boat positioning, it is also the most difficult to master.
  22. I am big fan of Zoom's moccasin blue color myself.
  23. Great reminder here. Another key is to stay hydrated and not just the day of. When i know i am going to be cycling in the heat i will almost drink water to the point i can't stand it for a few days beforehand and it really helps. the same thing goes for fishing, especially with me being a kayaker and physical exertion helps. I also wear long sleeve sun clothing and you wouldn't believe how much it helps to just dunk it in the water and put it back on. Cools you off pretty quickly.
  24. Look up the technique float and fly
  25. Sounds like a great day. Now i have to say that depending on the size of the stream and if those fish are native or not, let them go. Brookies lead a very tough short life and it doesn't take too many stringers full to seriously decimate the population in a smaller flow as I have seen it first hand. I will also echo in to get a fly rod.....i am gonna head out for some rookies either this weekend or next week sometime myself.
