  1. Hello, Has anyone tried the glide strips for their trailer bunks? They are suppose to provide a smooth, slick surface for the boat to slide on. I think it is sort of a cheap alternative to roller bunks. thanks Larry
  2. Hello, Let the party begin. Looking for a new spinning reel. Both the above reels appear to be nice quality reels for a little over $100. Most of the the counter guys at BPS and Cabelas seem to push Shimano. The Tierra appears to be a real nice reel. I have read a few reviews on the web that are very favorable for the Daiwa. Please offer your opinions on which reel and more importantly why. thanks very much Larry
  3. Hello, I have been having problems pulling my boat onto the trailer. The boat appears to be going on straight. But when it stops, I try to use the motor to "horse" it to the front of the trailer. Sometimes this works, but sometimes, I have to back the boat off and try again. I have the trailer so the wheel wells are just out of the water. Is it possible the trailer needs to be further in the water? Is there a way to determine the proper placement of the trailer in the water? Also, is it possible the bunks are not angled correctly? They appear to be fairly flat; not angled. Thanks Larry
  4. Hello, What are your thoughts about using 2 jig heads a few feet apart with minnows for crappie fishing? Or one minnow and one grub, etc. thanks Larry
  5. Hello, Going to a lake in Central Il (Shelbyville) for some Crappie fishing. Last week we had a big cold front move through. Temps are suppose to warm a bit to high of 50 and low of 30's in the evening. Any thoughts on what depth they may be at? thanks for your help Larry
  6. I own a Loomis IMX and other expensive tackle. However, I also sometimes use a Light Ugly Stick for cranking. For most cranking situations, sensitivity is not a primary issue; a soft tip is. Most pros have gone to either a fiiberglass rod for cranking, or a graphite/fiberglass combo. Some people never learn expensive equipment doesn't catch fish. The best fisherman I know have very average equipment. But they know where and how to catch fish. So many people on these boards talk about spending $$$ on equipment thinking it will make them a better fisherman. It absolutely won't. Some might say "why do you own a Loomis?" The answer is when worming or c rigging, I like the sensitivity. But for cranking, it is not important. To each his own Larry
  7. Buy a few rod socks. They slide over your rods and prevent tangling. An onboard battery charger is a great mod. Easy to install and very practical. Larry
  8. If you have 2 livewells, you could use one as storage and turn off the water valve. Larry
  9. For spring Crappie fishing, which do you think will produce better? thanks Larry
  10. Can you offer some tips on fishing a lipless crankbait above the weeds? Often, I end up in the weeds which doesn't work so well. thanks for your help lb
  11. Hello, Can you please offer some tips on reading the graph? What will weed beds look like on the graph? When I see "stuff" in the middle of the screen, what does that mean? Sorry for the dumb questions, but I am definitely a newbie using a graph. thanks Larry
  12. I have had the same issue with several of my reels. I had this happen to a Symetre reel. This surprised me as I pay close attention to my line and close my bail by hand. Does anyone know what causes this? thanks Larry
  13. Hello, I am a little short of rod storage on our boat. Has anyone used the vertical pvc rod holders on the boat to hold rods while on the lake? Obviously, this would not be used while trailering the boat. But I need a convenient place to keep the "extra" rods while fishing. Will the wind pressure be too much for the rods if they are vertical while cruising the lake? thanks Larry
  14. Hello, I have heard these are good rods for the money. Does anyone have any experience with them? I was thinking of getting a medium action for vertical jigging for walleye as well as texas style worm fishing for bass. Any thoughts are appreciated. Larry
  15. Thanks for your reply. I do think it is coming in from the gunnel overflow. I didn't know how to refer to that area. I do have a pump. thanks Larry
  16. How much water is "normal" in the bilge area? We took our new boat out Sat and it ran great. However, it did have some water in the bilge area. Maybe an inch or 2 at most. Is this normal? thanks Larry
  17. Just ordered 6lb for spinning tackle and 12lb for baitcaster. I have been using Power Pro and in some cases using a fluro leader. What can I expect from the yozuri? Manageability is very important to me. I hate dealing with nests. I ordered the clear. Is this fairly invisible? How is the sensitivity? thanks Larry
  18. Going fishing tomorrow to a power plant lake. Water will likely be slightly stained. Would you start the morning throwing a buzzbait or spinnerbait? I have been wanting to try a black buzzbait but not sure if the morning is a good time for it. I know its good at night. What colors would you suggest? I know white/chartreuse, what about firetiger? Water temp is probably 50; fish will still be pre spawn. thanks Larry
  19. Hello, A while ago, there was a thread about rod locker organizers. A few guys mentioned they used Rod Socks or Rod Bags instead of an organizer. Can you please offer links or info about the rod socks. My home made organizer isn't going to work. thanks Larry
  20. Thanks for the reply. It is a 97 Lowe Aluminum bass boat; 17' long with a 50 HP Evinrude. Hopefully with my big butt I can get the thing up on plane. I am pushing 300lbs. lb
  21. Can someone offer some tips on how to properly trim the motor? I know it should be a certain way for the hole shot then another way when cruising. I guess I am not sure what trimmed up and trimmed down mean and when to do each. thanks Larry
  22. Hello, Would like to buy an inexpensive hand held gps so I don't get lost on the lake. All I want it to do is to show a trail of where I have gone on the lake and to help me get back to the dock. From what I understand, the real cheap units don't have the lake maps built in so they won't work. thanks for your help Larry
  23. Hello, Just bought 2 Trojan batteries (SCS200) for my 24V trolling motor. Can you please offer your opinions of these battereis. I don't know what these specs mean but here they are: http://www.trojan-battery.com/Products/ProductSpec.aspx?Name=SCS200 Capacity Minutes @ 25 amps- 200; @75 amps-52 5hr Rate AH- 95; 20hr rate AH-115 Thanks for your opinion Larry
  24. I just bought my first boat as well. It has a 50hp oil injected Evinrude. I asked the local Evinrude dealer the same question. He sugggests adding some oil to the gas in addition to the injected oil. He said it can't hurt but is actually good for the engine. Worse case, it may smoke a little. You can also draw a line on your oil tank marking the level of oil. Make sure the oil is dropping. He said when you start the motor, you hear a chirp. This is the system check to make sure the oil injection is working. good luck Larry
  25. Hello, My fuel gauge doesn't appear to work. It may be the sending unit. Has anyone replaced theirs and if so, how easy is it? My gas tank is fairly accessible and I can see the top of the sending unit. Just want to make sure it is not a major poroject. thanks Larry
