  1. Hello and welcome!
  2. That's pretty sweet! They just sent you that for free?
  3. Welcome to Bass Resource!
  4. I'm gonna learn the dropshot soon and I'm about to buy some VMC spinshot dropshot hooks. Just seems easier. Or you could just go with the palomar with a long tag end tied to a D/S weight.
  5. I find that while meditating, pants (especially yoga pants) are very restricting and impede the meditative process. To achieve a truly zen-like state of mind, one much be completely free of restrictions like clothing. Trust me, the bass know the difference and will bite or not bite accordingly.
  6. That's how deep most of my lakes are. Get yourself some squarebills. Strike King KVD 1.5's are a good choice. Another good one would be the Bomber Square A. The Square A will run a little shallower then the 1.5.
  7. Got some nice ones there! And congrats on your first topwater fish! That's the most fun type of fishing IMO.
  8. All three. I probably get most of my topwater strikes from about 30-45 minutes before sunrise to about 30-45 minutes after. Once the sun gets up, the topwater bite seems to slow. At least it does around here. Maybe if you can find a nice shady spot you can stretch it out a little longer.
  9. I turn out all the lights, put on a CD of soothing ocean sounds, sit cross legged on my floor and meditate for sometimes up to 4 hours. If interrupted, I'll have to start over. When I finally clear my mind of all negativity and feel that I am at one with the bass, only then will I be able to have a productive day of fishing. Seriously though, I just go fish. About a half hour before I leave, I'll put on a fishing show (got a DVR full of them) and tie on my lures. 9 out of 10 times, I tie a topwater on one rod and the other rod gets either a worm or squarebill/spinnerbait depending on the mood I think the fish will be in and I get to the lake as early as possible. Oh, and I never forget to spray myself down with lots of but spray.
  10. I've started fishing the pit boss recently. So far I've used it Texas rigged, topwater as the OP described, as a jig trailer, and flipping and pitching it t-rigged with a pegged weight. I've really only fished it for about 3 trips now but I've gotten tons of strikes, just missed the hooksets mainly because I'm still getting used to flipping and pitching. Haven't caught anything on it yet but it's my fault for missing the fish. They're all over this bait. They've also got some killer colors. Right now I'm using Electric Blue but Perfection Blue Fleck and Green Haze are on my list to try. You better believe I'll be buying some more of these.
  11. As others have said, they're different and both have pros/cons. Your really comparing apples and oranges. Let us know what kind of baits your planning to fish with it and what the lakes/rivers you fish are like. Ill also add this...you mention getting a new reel but you don't say anything about getting a new rod. A baitcasting reel will not work or a spinning rod and a spinning reel will not work on a casting rod. So if you already own a spinning rod, I wouldn't plan on getting a baitcaster to put on it. You'd need to get a casting rod to go with it.
  12. Sounds like a plan. Odds are they'll be more active earlier and as the sun gets up they'll hold tighter to cover. Either that or go deeper. If you can't get bit on a jig or squarebill, try a lipless crank or spinnerbait in deeper water or along drop-offs. Try not to overthink it. I always overthink fishing a new body of water and I always try and put together a plan before I get there but quite often when it comes to actually fishing it, that plan goes out the window.
  13. That's really funny! And I'll second that...congrats on the PB!
  14. Well whatever it is, it's in the sunfish family and that's a pretty nice size one.
  15. It's not much to go on but I'd start out with topwater (I always do in the summer). Around here the topwater bite is usually hot early in the morning. The earlier the better. If they're not hitting topwater, maybe try some squarebills or jigs around the stumps/rocks. Like I said, not much to go on but it's what I would do.
  16. I won't say that I flat out refuse to fish it cuz I'm sure I will again here and there, but I don't care for Wye Mills Lake. It's a 50 acre lake about 25 minutes from house. All the areas accessible for bank fishing have virtually no cover but you can look out across the lake and see tons of awesome cover that you just can't get too. Aside from that I've only caught 3 fish there and they were all under 12 inches (granted I don't fish there that often and have seen a nice fish or 2 caught). DNR does put old Christmas trees in the water near the shore to crate fish attracters but honestly they're more trouble than they're worth. I lose soooo many more lures here than any other lake. I'm talking like 4 or 5 lures per trip to the point that I'm almost forced to only fish soft plastics so I'm not throwing a handful of $5 bills in the lake every time. I know people say if your not getting snagged your fishing in the wrong place but with this lake its just ridiculous and for the 3 dinks that I've caught out of there, it's just not worth the trouble.
  17. How about weight guys? Should I go with a lighter for shallow water? What do you recommend?
  18. I like the concept but it seems like the tackle box would be kind of heavy. Maybe I'm wrong though. If you go through with it post some pics and let us see it.
