  1. I prefer the Koppers Frog, but I do think the spro walks easier/better. The Koppers action is more of a bobbing/corking kind of walk where the frog looks like its trying to leap out of the water, the spro walk seems more traditional. I like the kopper walk style around the bank, pads, or floating scum, I use the spro more in open water. I don't trim the skirt legs anymore, I always end up trimming too much and ruin the bait.
  2. I use them for wacky rigging. They are cheap and work well.
  3. I interpreted the OP where the plastics statistic was given to show that plastics were not so great.
  4. Interesting stat, but maybe a little misleading. 237 on plastics leaves 289 for all other baits. This includes jigs, cranks, spinnerbaits, topwaters, spoons, live bait(?) etc... I think plastics has a pretty commanding lead.
  5. I have tried many (zoom, ragetail, sizmic, yum etc), and nothing works as well for me as Stanley Ribbits.
  6. LOL! I feel your pain. I have found myself wandering the aisles of BPS lately trying to find something new. Sadly all I have been buying lately is replacement lures, nothing new. The bait monkey is disgusted with me.
  7. Are they definitely discontinued? Seems like an idiotic move to me if so.
  8. I found a shoebox full of these at a yardsale for $2 a piece and bought them all. I see they go for a lot on ebay, my question is are they any good or do people just like them because they are discontinued?
  9. I NEVER lose a big fish. Because all I catch are dinks these days...
  10. Maybe the dye is something they are using to look for leaks in the dam? If so, I'm fairly certain with as tight as environmental controls are these days, it is something that won't hurt fish.
  11. Shenandoah smallmouth love them.
  12. They are discontinued. Only place to get them now is on Ebay.
  13. How 'bout a couple of more tackleboxes?
  14. Mine was a move from a spinning reel to a baitcaster.
  15. Spinnerbait followed up by a weightless trick worm. A rage shad sounds like it would kick some butt in there too.
  16. I have had two great days so far this season for topwater, and both days I threw a Koppers (the one in my pic!). It took me about three or four misses to get into the grove. Patience is the key. Do net set the hook on the blowup, wait to set the hook until you feel the fish on the line. I have heard that some batches of Koppers have dull hooks, you might want to check yours out, make sure they are sharp.
  17. What's not to get? Good, durable versions of expensive baits, a few new innovative baits. And not nearly as expensive as other brands. I love the Pit Boss, it is similar to a lot of beaver baits, but does have a style all its own as well. The Devil Spear is just cool, haven't thrown it yet. The grass pig is a nice swimmer, and puts as many fish in my hands as the skinny dipper did. I'm a fan of the Havok!
  18. 'Roadkill' is my favorite color. Kind of like green pumpkin with gold dust. Killer.
  19. I have never been a patient person, and that translates over to my fishing style. I prefer to power fish (spinnerbaits, crankbaits, topwater, etc) and slowing down for plastics is routinely difficult for me. I seriously have to talk myself into slowing down, calming down, and force myself to be patient. Once I can get in that mindset, fishing plastics becomes a lot easier. As with everything else in life you will find that with patience comes reward.
  20. I have seen it before, and I think it is related to schooling behavior and competition for food. The bass concentrate in a particular area on structure and compete for anything that swims by. Sometimes that means multiple bass folling a hooked fish hoping for a morsel or several fish following one bait. I see it mostly on fishing shows, not in real life as the water I fish is pretty stained.
  21. Great tip. Will definitely try it. I also have some lead shot that I think I will try and mold into the head of a worm with mend-it and see how it works.
