Deep or Shallow, how do you decide?
In south Florida our water temps are in the high 80's right now. I fish early or late in the day this time of year. I usually start shallow in the weeds and pads this time of year, from there I move to the closest drop off or ledge I can find. Bass will move up and down these ledges depending on light conditions. Bass are either going deep as the light gets high in the sky, or they are burying deep in the sawgrass and weeds. So I will fish both until I find some action.

Haven't caught a bass since June 1st
Absolutely not, back in the 70's I used creme worms, but since I visit the area every year and have a family friend that is part owner of Turkeyfoot golf course and lives on the lake, I fish the area at least once a year. The advice I was giving you was from recent trips. 4" senko will work almost anywhere in the country.

Gut hooked bass on Texas Rig
I have tried a bunch but now only use Trylene professional grade and because it’s Florida nothing less than 15 pound test. Only use with bait-casters, and seldom use a spinning reel. Been using for ten years and love it. I spray it before using and spray when I come back home.

Gut hooked bass on Texas Rig
Ten years ago I switch from mono to floro for all my plastics. I love the stuff now and would never go back. Much more sensitive, holds up to rough structure, almost zero stretch, sinks in the water, and less visible to bass. This will help with bite detection, and increase bites. Also master proper hook removal techniques. Once you master this 90% of deep hooked fish will be released in good shape. Lots of videos on the web on this. Good luck!

A very good trip
Good for you my friend. Nothing better than true wilderness.

One last cast...
If it's been a tough day, a hot day, I almost always say to myself "Just one more cast, and if I catch one I'll stay another hour." Over the years although it was slow, BINGO,I caught a fish and stayed just one more hour, it has happened several times. Yes, just one more cast, goes through mind all the time!

Alley fishing!
Canals are still producing nice bass most of the year. It has gotten tougher since the last heavy rains. A lot of bass are buried back in the sawgrass where the food supply is plentiful. Still good to live in one of the country’s best fishing areas. Usual happening tonight. I caught a 4 pound black peacock. Never happened before. The body was a deep black except for red under the chin and a spot on the tail. The body shape And mouth was pure peacock. Has anyone out there ever caught a black peacock? I have caught hundreds of peas over the years and nothing like this one.

What keeps me going...
Whether it’s from the bank or from the boat, fishing just puts my mind at ease. Casting to spots I want to hit is like a game of darts. Just satisfying knowing I can target an area and present the bait right where I want it to go regardless of the conditions. If I catch fish it just makes the experience that much better. I’m from Florida and summer is a difficult time for catching, water temps in the high 80’s. I don’t care just get me out to toss a bait around. Everything is on autopilot once I feel the tick on the line. It is a form of relaxation from all the distractions of the world.

Quarantine blues and fishing
Hey buddy, talk to others and stay in touch. It is hard on a bunch of us. My wife and I are 70 and in a danger group. I almost always fish with others in my boat and have lots of friends to share the experience. I haven't fished with anyone since March, sleep too much when not fishing, and eat to much out of boredom. Talk to as many friends as you can and always come back and talk to us. I feel for your situation and wish I could help more. Just get out and take a walk, or ride a bike for exercise. I always feel better after getting some exercise even if its a slow walk. God bless and hang in there.

Peacock vs Bass
Peacock are super aggressive, I once caught a two pound bass from the bank and could see a one pound peacock attacking the bass. The peacock hit the bass twice on the way in. They are aggressive and don't want them in their area at times. I have caught many peas and compared to a bass it's like comparing a pitbull to a poodle. Fun as hell to catch and hold on. We are lucky to have them in good numbers.

Haven't caught a bass since June 1st
Akron Ohio, I went to Kent for undergrad and grad school, also coached football at Kent in the 70's. I used to fish a small lake over by the power plant by the Rusty Nail Restaurant in Kent. Always caught bass there. Also the dam area north of Kent on the Cuyahoga River. This time of year I would downsize to a 4" senko watermelon red and fish very slow, the slower the better. Also the reserve in Ravenna, and Turkeyfoot park in the Portage Lakes. I have caught nice bass at Turkeyfoot. Good luck, down size and slow down.

Trust Your Instincts
Rolo your so right. If it doesn't feel right don't do it. I have had times when a car would pull in early in the morning, and not leave the ramp area. I would fish that ramp area until they were long gone. I remember when your wife would always be with you and posted on your trips. I hope all is well with you and yours buddy!

Alley fishing!
I have fished L67, Little 67, and L28 many times over the years. Never fished Chrome because it always had a reputation for break-ins. Loved fishing the three pines area of L67. Lots of big bass at the cuts out there.

Techniques, Seasons, and Water Temperature
Color I have a rule of thumb for all plastics, which is pretty simple. Clear water I use plastics of natural colors like watermelon, pumpkin, or shad color. Heavy stained water, or low light conditions, Junebug or your basic black. I try to keep it simple, placement and movement, or lack of movement, is more important than changing color. A bait dropped close to a bass is drawing attention regardless of color. I don't think she is saying, "I wish that object was green instead of junebug.

Techniques, Seasons, and Water Temperature
You could write a book on this topic. Regardless of season, time of day, or conditions, no two days are seldom the same. I usually start the same way, with the baits I enjoy throwing. I will start with a top water, or H/B frog fished at a good pace. If nothing I will slow down with the same baits. Then plastics a little deeper, first at a good pace than slow again, and deeper. If nothing, I down size and fish slow. First in thick pads, then the closest significant drop-off. The deeper the better. Then a wacky rig with a slow fall and all the way to the bottom. Snap off the bottom and let it settle again. It’s like watching paint dry but saved many a day. I try to fish different speeds and depths until I find some fish willing to play. Every seldom does just one technique work day after day. The fish will tell you what they want that day, that hour. It’s a little like gambling, you never know what the cards hold for you.

Alley fishing!
By 9:00 in the morning the bite is about done. Most of the month the bites have been deep hugging the rock walls in the canals. A few bites back in the pads early in the morning. Mostly using U-Vibes and senkos. Tough slow fishing, but still producing a few big old girls deep.

What to wear fishing in hot weather
I fish South Florida and have for 50 years. I fish at least 5 days a week so I am used to heat and humidity. I always wear long sleeve shirts, thin material and wick and moisture type. A buff for the face, and a hat with long side panels that cover the neck and sides. Good sunglasses, fishing gloves, shorts and sandals. Wear what your comfortable with, regardless of what it looks like. I have a battery powered fan that goes around the neck and blows constant air up in the face for up to 5 hours. It has two fan blades and holds snug around the neck. Light weight and rechargeable. A new addition thanks to my daughter. I'm as comfortable as I can be for 90+ weather, with 90% humidity. Cover as much skin as possible, and good glasses are a must! You never see a desert person riding a camel in blazing heat with a tank top and shorts. They are always covered from head to toe. For a good reason. The most important thing is plenty of water, in the summer months three times more than you think you will need, just in case you have a mechanical problem while on the water. I freeze ten bottles and take one out on the deck at a time all day, so I'm well hydrated with cool water. This is the most important thing you can do.

Too much fishing
I would suggest you find other waters to fish for a while.

Holiday Park..
Since the water has gone up the bite is either early or late. By 11:00AM your just practicing your casting. Also slow way down. Throw up into the pads and slowly pull it out and let it fall all the way to the bottom of the drop-off. Senko type baits, trick worms and U-Vibes still produce but at a painfully slow pace. Most bites deep at the base of the drop-off. Gators have moved off deep into the swamp very few left in the canals.

Roadwarrior...I'm Back!
Welcome back Kent. Can't wait to read some of your journeys on the water in the future. Good luck and God Bless!

My Amends (if fish could read)
Fishing a long time we all know it will happen once in a while. I also feel terrible when it does, and I do everything I can to not let it happen. But it's all part of the game, and that fish will go a long way to feed other living things in the environment. It will not go to waste. You have just made a catfish, turtle, or gator's day!

Bass Myths Busted!
Thanks Glen, I always enjoy your video presentations.

dropshot baits for small mouth
For drop-offs I would throw a 4" senko type bait, and a trick worm wacky rigged, and fished slow. Both of these would work on large mouth also.

Empty Lake Today
What a beautiful little lake! Keep hitting those shaded areas in this summer heat.
