You are on the water ready to fish either from boat or bank . Before you make your first cast what all are you taking into consideration ?

I'm an early riser . I think the only person on this forum who gets up earlier than me is Catt .Maybe he just doesnt sleep . So I'm in the recliner with my coffee at 4 AM this morning going through Bass resource and nod off . I dream that I am in my boat idling around a cove , getting a general impression of the lake . I wake up thinking the fish are 8 foot deep and I'm heading to secondary points and throw a Deep Wee R .

I'm predicting Ott Defoe . I expect him to win a classic or AOY soon .

I dont know . You might want to sell that Wiggle wart separately . There might someone on this forum who will pay you a decent price .

I used shaky heads , not knowing what they were . I just thought they were cool looking jig-heads . So if there is a right way to use them , I probably did it wrong .

I know one thing , when I got into Fantasy fishing last year I picked a lot of Rick Clunns, Shaw Grigsbys , Tim Hortons , Paul Elias , Gary Kleins ,David Fritz and other than Horton winning an event the others were always no shows .

It was probably a fluke which look an awful lot like a bass . My uncle catches a lot of those .

I havent tried the big swimbaits either . Nor Spy-bait or Glide-bait . I just dont have time to try everything but do well enough that I dont have to . Oh and lets not forget the Whopper Plopper .

Mostly finesse stuff because I fish stained to muddy water with casting gear almost exclusively . Drop shot , wacky rig , split shot rig and a true Ned rig . I have fished similar things to the ned rig but was informed it doesnt count .

You bounced a few off the rocks ?

For that 4 to 5 foot range the old school Fat Rap is still the first lure I rely on the most . They can still be bought on-line .

I recommend to get two of each size Berkely Dredger . Then your set for 6 to 23 foot .

My thinking was along the same line as yours . I remember Gary Klein lived in his pick-up truck . He had to catch fish or go home . Now there is not as much pressure on them .. Mark Davis was still competitive last season .

I was on an old MSN forum and this guy kept posting photos of big bass he caught using the Banjo minnow . He had some weird custom rod with wood handles and obviously didnt know much about bass fishing . He was fishing on a rip rap bank of a large lake. If I remember correctly one of those bass was a nine lber .

I want to see it rigged up . Its called a clinch knot swarm rig , so how does using a clinch knot have anything to do with it ?

On *** Youtube , Gary klein has a good video on Deep Crankin using Dredger 25.5's . Those Dredgers wont work you as hard as other big lipped lures ,they have a tight action . I use a Johnny Morris 5 to 1 gear ratio reel and it doesnt wear me out .

I didnt have to worry about that .The lakes I fished had a 15 inch minimum . Those 12 inch dinks didnt help any .

That was my biggest barrier . I would struggle to compete if forced to abandon my plan's and just go fishing . I got lucky a couple of times but usually made a no-show at the weigh-in .

Most of these guys who were once dominant , seldom make the cut anymore , let alone qualify for year end championships. Guys like Clunn, Grigsby , Yelas ... Do you think because they already made a success of pro fishing that they just are not motivated like they once were or do you think the younger anglers are just that much better?

I usually throw them on a 6'6'' med action graphite rod . I dont even know the speed of the reel on that rod but it is spooled with 12 lb big Game .

Back in the 70's Blakemore made a big spinnerbait the C.C. spinner [ Charlie Campbell ] that I used a lot simply because I was not very good at casting lighter lures . I caught a lot of bigger than average bass on it . Thats what this home-made spinnerbait is based off of .

I use to fish black grape 90 percent of the time and my pal fished blueberry . It made no difference where we fished clear , muddy , in between . If they were biting one they were biting the other .

I use a Tesoro Vaquero . Took it dirt fishing again today , Found a buffalo nickle , three wheat cents and my first silver of the season .

I'm not getting caught up in it .
