I have spent hours upon hours exploring miles of deep flats using a carolina rig with heavy sinker looking for that secret spot that everyone else overlooked and caught very little . I used the Carolina rig because it was fast and remained in contact with the bottom the entire cast . It wasnt the carolina rigs fault . There just was not any reason for the bass to be there . Bass would be caught at the edges of the flats where there is a noticeable drop off leading up into the coves or ditches. What did I learn? Its better to fish the routes than to rely on luck . At least on my local reservoir it is that way .
  2. Bass will even spawn on top of stumps and laydowns . They do what they have to do . There are also two protective coves on the north of that map.
  3. That hump with the saddle s very close to this hump with a saddle . In this map it makes an island but in the spring it is always a hump and a productive post spawn area .
  4. Beetle Spin's work real well pond fishing early in the season .
  5. Its going to take an awful long cast for me to hit a bedding bass .
  6. I'd be allover that .
  7. Theres a saddle leading out to that hump . See it . Thats the spot . Looks like a nice structure lake .
  8. I've spent about 100 dollars this winter . Unless I find a heck of a clearance deal on a rod or reel I'm probably done .
  9. Last year on a BASS tournament I heard KVD ask spectator boats that were following if they would give him room to fish a bank . He said he preferred to fish off that one side . i dont remember what side it was .
  10. You had one of those Polish made Fishenskis ?
  11. R to L is much easier for me but do what I have to do.
  12. The ones I seen are not the classic domes but just a pile of cuttings at the shoreline .
  13. All right , knock it off .
  14. How often do you encounter them ? They are one of the more consistent forms of cover I have encountered . How do you fish them ? I throw Texas rigs, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits at them . Never throw a treble hook lure in there .
  15. Looks like living rubber skirts .
  16. When you have interchangeable lures in a lot of situations people are going to rely on their personal experience . My lure preference right now is a lot different than ten years ago .
  17. I thought he was throwing copper blades . Just order some blades and skirts .
  18. I stand corrected , they are 3/4 ounce Strike King Pro Ledge . The sticker price is $1.99.
  19. I have two Ledge Busters by Strike King still in package that are designed for that . I bet they are close to 25 to 30 years old .
  20. The only reason I do it is because most people dont . Nobody gives a hoot who I select .
  21. The local Dunhams dont have them unless they just come in . I'll check tomorrow . They are excellent square bills .
  22. Good point . The first bass tournament I won , a club event , was pure luck . I bought a used Ambassaduer 5000 and put a big handle on it . I could not cast anything but big lures so I bought a 1/2 ounce spinnerbait with a giant colorado blade "C.C. spinner" for you veterans who remember . I caught 3 bass that weighted thirteen13 lbs . The second place guy caught ten dinks that weighed twelve . I remember his lure too a Hot Spot in Smokey Joe color .
  23. That happens every time .
  24. I almost picked the Missouri/Ozark guy but at the same time I didnt want to pick a guy who is " just happy to be here. " I hope he does well for you .
