  1. Go to Youtube and look up Bomber Flat A HowTo by legend Bobby Murray . That is exactly how I fish crankbaits after ice out during a warming trend . I've never used the Flat A then but I will give it a try next time .
  2. Cousin and I won a large tourney using lizards in September . What kind of boat is that ? I fish from a 22 foot Lowe deck boat .
  3. Ha ! I rigged up a shad on a Carolina rig and was dragging it along . I caught a fish but it wasnt a bass . A channel cat .
  4. 13 foot is deeper than the vegetation grows in the water I fish . There is weed growth on points out to about 6 foot . I catch fish out in deeper water consistently .
  5. Strike King Rocket Shad . I love those little things for river smallmouths . I have to wrap some wire around the double hook because I have had a couple come off during the fight . Either casting in shallow fast water or in deep holes , those lures catch them .
  6. I'm a lot better than I was in 1975 . The biggest differences are : selecting the right lure for the job : boat positioning : deep water fishing I still dont think of myself as a good caster . I watched the video of Glenn and that backhand cast . I struggle with that.
  7. Thanks but I havent had any luck with the long lipped ones . This is the small sized Big Jim without rattles . These lures have the action that new plugs claim to have . The two I have had hunt like mad . They hunt so hard that sometimes I think they are out of tune then they head the other way .
  8. I didnt catch a big fish this past year . An 8 inch blue Jelly Worm , I think nabbed the largest . Not much , a bad year for big fish but a good year for limits of 15 inch keepers .
  9. Wood is free . Broken baseball bats , discarded furniture .... I have some osage orange , locust and paw paw that i cut several years ago . I have oak from dresser drawers and cedar scraps . I bet trying to carve a plug from the osage would be a chore . I do plan on doing it with a rotary tool .
  10. Good luck . I've been paying attention to your postings and know you have the skills to win it all .
  11. I did something stupid two years ago . I was searching for a brush pile that I knew was there but hidden by high water . I was fan casting a prized Rebel Deep Wee R in Naturalized crappie searching for it . I lost it in that sunken brush . That one hurt because the outcome was predictable . The same summer I was bouncing one of my favorite vintage silent Bayou Boogies in the rip rap of a dam , knowing that it was just a matter of time before I lost it but it was producing .
  12. Do you fish them more ? I catch more on the Texas rigged craw these days because I fish them more .
  13. Yes, they are morels . Choice . I heard people selling them for 50 dollars a lb .
  14. I make my own .
  15. All my favorite brand specific spinnerbaits are no longer made or difficult to find . Blakemore C.C. Spinner Fleck Weed Wader Strike King Spin Dance Bass Buster Scorpion
  16. I dont see a lot of difference in spinnerbait brands . I choose by weight , blade design and a ball bearing swivel .I have bought spinnerbaits for a quarter a piece on clearance that had ball bearing swivels .
  17. If I was a better speaker then I woudnt mind making some fishing videos . I have a couple of metal detecting videos on Facebook and I'm not very good at communicating .
  18. I have caught fish with a floating minnow type lure in that season it but not many .
  19. The only top water I have caught fish on in cold late winter/early spring water is a Bomber Long A Minnow . In late fall/early winter I have caught them on many top waters .
  20. If there is a warming trend some big largemouths can be caught . After several days of warm weather I have caught some lunkers by targeting steep south facing sunny banks . I have always used an Argobast Mudbug in crawdad color . In the afternoons after the sun has hit the bank for a couple of hours , position the boat to make parallel cast . Then reel the lure in with rod tip low , agonizingly slow . I showed this technique to another fisherman and he has caught two 8 lbers . Thats a big bass in these parts .
  21. I still use them occasionally and should use them more .
  22. Another thing is how do you approach a tough fishing day . Some people just give up and others enjoy the challenge . Theres been a bunch of times where I have fished for hours without much to show then finish with a fury . Or is it finish with a flurry .
  23. I think they get conditioned to lures . Early spring in area lakes you will see a chartreuse spinnerbait in almost every boat because the bass are hitting them . A week or two later that spinnerbait bite is dead . Other lures like a squarebill still catches them. On one small lake I see a lot of anglers switch to beetle spins .
  24. I wear prescription glasses and used polarized clip-ons . Less than fifteen dollars .
  25. I've never used one . I dont even know what it is . I'll have to look it up .
