  1. I vow to fish in my boat more . I have such a good time and luck fishing from the conservation dept jon boats on a small lake that I dont get out on the big lake much .
  2. Holy cow ! You smoked em .
  3. The further south the less difference it should make .When there is a warming trend of a few days after the winter ice has melted , I dont search out the north side of a lake , I search out steep banks that receive direct sunlight . That could be on the north , south , east or west side of the lake but the north side of a creek arm . I like to use a crankbait , an Argobast Mudbug cast parallel and crawled agonizingly slow . This is a sunny afternoon bite a big fish tactic not for numbers .
  4. I was thinking the same . Those 25.5 foot Berkely Dredgers should cast well with it .
  5. I gave him a choice of the rod pictured or a Falcon Bucco and Bass Pro Extreme reel . He took the Falcon and Extreme .
  6. It should be starting soon .
  7. I have had a camper at a camper park that is on backwater of the Mississippi river for about ten years now . There was this kid who befriended me because I fished and he liked to fish with me . I bought him a cheap spincast combo one day and he was thrilled . They left a few years ago but we remained friends on Facebook . He is having a rough time with other kids and I just found out his parents are getting divorced. He just graduated mid term .I'm going to make his day and give him good rod and reel that I havent used in several years .
  8. All my baitcasting rods are right handed and so are the reels .
  9. I use the same one as tander . I rarely lose a lure . Sometimes it takes awhile . How long is that retractable leash ?
  10. I cast right handed lay it in my left hand and have my right hand on the handle often before the lure touches down . There is no wasted movement .
  11. I could copy up the lake and circle the area I'm talking about but dont want to take the time . A lake I like to fish early in the year , the upper end runs northwest . The channel runs along the southern side then cuts across to the northern side . I dont know the difference in water temp but early in the year if theres a warming spell that northern bank with the channel next to it has produced a lot of lunkers on sunny afternoons . The southern bank usually doesnt produce anything .
  12. I have caught a lot of large bass at the neighborhood pond in that stuff . I used a Riverside Top Gun which has been re-released as the Yum Swurm . I rigged it weightless and weedless with the biggest heaviest flipping hook I had . The big hook gave it casting weight and also strong enough to bring in a six lb bass and 6 lbs of snot . I just cast it out and plop it on top . Twitch it with the rod tip high and it will plop in place . Work it toward openings .I was the only person fishing the pond when it got like that and killed them .
  13. I've slept in the back of my truck at a boat ramp parking lot several times .
  14. Most rods have a handle that is to long for my liking . I have to hold them out further it is uncomfortable and makes my back ache. My worm rod is 6'8" and the handle is about two inches shorter than other rods of its size . I have tried to replace that rod two or three times but keep going back to it . One of these days I'm going to get brave and take a hack saw to a rod handle . I'd like to shorten most of them .
  15. Finesse bass fishing for me consist of jig/grub combos and marabou jigs .
  16. Look at the o-ring kits at Harbor freight . Most of the ring will not work but they are so cheap it may be worth it .
  17. A 5'6" pistol grip rod makes walking baits a lot easier to work but thats the only thing I like it for .
  18. 17 lb test Trilene is .015 inches thick . Thats what I use for Texas rigs and jigs .
  19. I would just get the 7'0' MH graphite . you made a good choice . I only take four baitcaters and one spinning rod when fishing and the 7 foot MH baitcaster covers a lot of bases .
  20. I dont know the action of your rod but I'm speculating it has a lot of flex . Make sure you have some skinny worms and some "thin" wire offset hooks . Those 6 inch lucky e strike worms at my Wal Mart work well . A thin wire 2.0 offset hook goes through them pretty easily . You dont have to bury the hook unless fishing in snags . When I'm fishing baron points and flats I run the hook all the way through .
  21. I can only comment on the reels I have used . My deep diving reel is a BPS Johnny Morris with a 5.2 to 1 gear ratio . My older Abus 4600's with 4.6 to 1 cast a mile and have the torque .
  22. With a Texas rigged worm the hook has to be set through the worm and the basses mouth . Just reeling it in a little faster will not get the fish hooked very often . Also describe your rod and reel .
  23. I bought some 1/4 ounce lead weights two years and I switch out skirts . I'm not familiar with EZ change but any skirt will slip on .
  24. The craft shop should have something . The first one I made was in 1988 . I took a half ounce weight to a grinding wheel . It was a lot of work so I only made the one .
