Topwater poppers
Sometimes with subtle twitches and sometimes with short but hard jerks trying to move the lure as little as possible but throw water as far as possible .

Topwater poppers
Dont get stuck in a rut . Dont be afraid to use poppers as aggressively as you can . I try to spray water as far as possible .

Most consecutive days?
Me to . I didnt make one cast in September . Family members are having serious health problems . I've only been about eight times all year .

When Color Matters?
I was a non boater in a tourney and got smoked . This was in the late 70's . The boater was using a chartreuse spinnerbait with chartreuse blades . I didnt have anything like it . There was a ten fish limit in those days . First day he got me ten to zero . Second day ten fish to two . He won the tourney . It may have been color , it may have been vibration or a combination . These were open water fish on a shallow flat and all he was doing was casting and reeling .

Question . Do you ever do this on the downstream side of islands ?

Most successful pattern this summer?
I was on a shallow bite all summer .Fishing visible shoreline cover with 8 inch worms and buzzbaits was my best pattern .

When Color Matters?
I was paralleled casting the banks one fall day and the leaves were changing . I started out throwing a bluegill colored crankbait and kept casting it in the trees because the lure was camouflaged against the background . I switched to a white crankbait , began casting much better and had a productive day . Color made a difference that time . I do think color makes a difference along with sound and action . Many times a color switch has made a difference when bass were not taking the lure good , being barely caught on the rear hook or foul hooked . I just keep tweeking until I'm satisfied .

What Scales do You Use?
I have a spring scale , dont know the make . It reads the same as my digital . It has a marker that stays in place once the fish is removed . So put the fish on the scale , release fish , then read the weight . Mine are similar but cheaper .

How long will bass live out of water / fish handling
Heres what I do ever since I got a Fish Grip . Clamp the fish on the Fish Grip , hook a stringer onto it and put the fish in the water . Then I set my camera up for a photo on a tiny tripod . set the timer for ten seconds then retrieve the fish and unclamp it .Fast and easy . I even leave the lure in the mouth . You can hook the scale onto the fish grip too . Its one of those products that I thought unnecessary . I use it a lot . Theres the fish grip setting next to me along with the rope stringer attached to it .

Latest Catch Pics Thread
Congrats . I find those tourneys more interesting than easy ones . Has it affected the health of the fish ? They sprayed the vegetation at my favorite small lake and it seems the bass are skinnier than they use to be . I like it . I keep bass to eat but release the bigger ones .

Hula Poppers.
I know Hula Poppers are great lures and have caught millions of fish but I never had much luck with them . They are one of the first lures I ever had but never produced .

Anyone else kind of a jerk?
I do have a couple of secret spots on a heavily fished lake that I dont think get fished real hard and I am mum about them . They hold fish spring , summer and fall, I dont fish winter . One of the places I have yet to identify why it is so good and I'm not taking anyone to it . I'll always tell what lure , what depth ...and leave it up to them to figure out for themselves . One time I sold a couple of fellows a package of watermelon chartreuse Jelly worms and let them have the spot . I already pulled about fifty bass off of it and they were being skunked . They trolled out to ask how I was catching so many fish . As I was pulling away I glanced back and they were both hooked up .

Who mainly uses the same lures every time they fish? - I'm down to the same 4 lures
When bank fishing I'm also a proponent of one rod .My gear fits neatly in a vest and I can cover water . I've walked miles in a river before and had 100 fish days doing so .

Jigs in stained water
Dark colors black with chartreuse accents work well . I've done well with black jigs and a black craw with chartreuse pincers .
