  1. Yes , I can almost always correctly call a catfish . A drum will sail at the onset . A carp is in to win it .
  2. You never seen frog legs in a basses throat ?
  3. Havent we all caught bass with a frog in its stomach ?
  4. It seems to me that crankbait color can make a huge difference in shallow water . I dont know about the orange belly but I have caught plenty on an orange belly . I have have days where bluegill patterned baits out fished shad colors by a big margin and vice versa . Rapala Fat Rap in perch has the orange belly .hint
  5. Good question. I might move or stay in the area and fish heavy cover more thoroughly or change lures like from a spinnerbait to a buzzbait . But if I'm catching numbers theres a good chance I'll stumble on to some big fish and get something going .
  6. I have spinnerbaits specifically for that but yeah , I dont use them that much .
  7. When I was a newer angler I tried everything . Thats how one learns . Now I dont so much .
  8. I joined a club at 18 . There were no bass boats in the club , just converted jon boats . It didnt cost a whole lot to fish that way . There were no large reservoirs nearby but a lot of small lakes with 10HP limits so big fiberglass rigs were just not bought .
  9. I umpired one little league game and was so bad at it that they wouldnt let me umpire anymore nor did I want to . I stuck to keeping score . LOL
  10. I never stitched for bass but i do hold the line between my index finger and thumb to feel for a bite .Often times my lift is so slow and weight heavy enough that the Texas rigged lure or jig just drags along the bottom .
  11. I have went through periods of losing high percentage of fish . One reason was I was trying to horse them in like I seen the pros do . That didnt turn out well . I lost a lot of big fish . The other reason was just poor hook selection . I jumped on the newest and latest hook bandwagon and lost a lot of fish doing so . But you know , I'm a better angler because of those lessons learned .
  12. If there were just 5 participants I would still get them backwards .
  13. Slot limits seem to work real well "if" the fishermen use them . A local lake has had a slot limit for decades but people just would not keep those little bass . I kept a limit every time out . The last few years I have noticed more people keeping those little bass and the population of med sized bass in and over the slot has exploded . The average sized fish is noticeably larger .It appears to me if you want to help a fishery keep the fish under the slot or the smallest legal fish if there is no slot . If theres a min 15 inch limit , I will keep a limit closer to the 15 inch mark . Bass are renewable .
  14. I use to use a Carolina rig a lot . I wanted to cover vast expanses quickly . I used a 3/4 ounce egg sinker . I had a lot of success on points but pretty much came up empty on large flats .But it wasnt a waste of time , I learned a lot not catching fish .
  15. I fish greenish tinted water all the time . Just about any color works well for me except red . Red has always been my least productive color in shallow water . Deep water anything goes . I use a lot of blues , purples , greens , browns and black chartreuse tail .
  16. My team for the next tourney Defoe Ehrler Howell Williamson Avena
  17. I'm an old pistol gripper and Abu 4600 c user too . Those reels were the only ones I used for a couple of decades . I could still use them today and be very comfortable .The longer rods are a huge advantage over the short pistol grips . The handles are a little long for my liking on some of them . They get in the way . So I have to hold them out farther which makes my back start to ache after a few hours . I've been contemplating taking a hacksaw blade to some of them .
  18. One tourney to go and I'm changing strategies .I dont know what that is . I want that second 100 dollar Circuit City gift certificate .
  19. I had this same question when I was a young angler . Now I realize there is no good answer . You go fishing and try to make good decisions . Its a challenge .
  20. Looks like Clunn did not bother to weigh in again . That would be the second time this season . I had him both times . I wont pick him again . Bass track had him with two fish and 7 lbs .
  21. My entire team must be out of cel phone range .
  22. The good old days . There was a smallmouth population explosion at a local stream . This was not your typical clear water Ozark stream but a muddy lowland river . These bass had never seen a lure before . I had big smallmouths following me around like dogs . I had it to myself for most of two years never once seeing another angler then word slowly got out . People who say fishing pressure doesnt effect bass have not had the same experience I've been lucky enough to encounter .
  23. Buzzbait . Spinnerbait Texas rigged soft plastic and Crankbaits . Those are the four lures I use most during the day too . In my neck of the woods I have never got on deep bass at night. 6 foot is about the limit . But the best spots are where I catch deep bass during the day just closer to bank .
  24. Is bassmaster live working ? I'm just getting the spinning circle .
