  1. Some people like catching but not fishing , which is ok . So they dont work hard at it give up and go do something more productive . They are normal . Us bass addicts are the weird ones .
  2. I find fall largemouths very unpredictable and very hungry around here . Ive had 70 fish days on the points and in the back of creeks . When I find them it can be a fish on most every cast , I just dont know where they are going to be .
  3. Put weedless single hooks on it . I have thought about doing it on a lipless bait to fish through brush-piles .
  4. Chrome has been my top top-water color .
  5. I have fished the last eclipse but it did not reach totality . The moon did not completely block out the sun like it will this time . The moon has elelliptical orbit and was to far away to block it out totally . It was a poor fishing day . It was like fishing on a cloudy day for a couple of minutes . The Owls were hooting .
  6. Sounds like a plan . Also sounds like one heck of a buzzbait lake .
  7. I like to texas rig them for river smallmouths .
  8. Bass are curious . I snorkeled in a clear Ozark stream . Every single laydown had bass in it . I would tap my fingernail against my watch and they swam to me to investigate .
  9. I dont know how accurate the 90 to 10 ratio is but there is a certain percentage who dont catch much at all . Fishing is just not their thing and they are just out relaxing for a day . I saw three two hundred lb plus men in a 14 foot jon boat yesterday having a good old time , bobbers out in the middle of the lake , making all kinds of noise . I doubt very much if they caught anything more than a few little sunfish .
  10. I mounted one on an old trolling motor that no longer functioned .
  11. What the heck is the midwest finesse rig ?
  12. 21 Bass taste horrible . Bass are delicious .
  13. Unseasonably cool weather had the fish acting funny . They were just nipping worms and close mouthing crankbaits . I hit the banks with a homemade buzzbait and they would just sucki it under . No explosions . Caught 8 keepers over 15 inches . 7 came on the buzzbait .
  14. When I pull up to the lake and nobody is fishing my point . Thats fist pump time .
  15. 1/4 ounce is sufficient for down to 20 foot with a texas rig .If its windy you can go heavier .
  16. In my case its shad and they are everywhere . Some days they are shallow , deep , on the main lake , in the creeks ... I dont know if they can be patterned.
  17. Just yesterday I found a huge glob of yuk in a compartment with some soft swimbaits . I didnt know what it was so when cleaning it out I found a Ned rig head . I must have rigged one up and threw it in there . I did not know those baits would disintegrate that badly . LOL
  18. Bass are everywhere , very adaptive critters . I've even caught big ones in ditches . They habitate clear , muddy , deep , shallow , rocky , soft .... you get the picture . A lot of lures can be fished in many different situations and they often overlap . Sometimes, for example , a spinnerbait or a crankbait would be a great choice and its just a guess as which one to use . Its easy to over complicate bass fishing i'm as guilty as anyone . To make it simple select lures that cast well with your equipment . Dont fret too much over the little stuff like color just pick a few time tested proven hues and try to choose lures that will fish the area effectively . Its actually not that difficult and if something doesnt work , change . For example a fallen tree is a classic bass attractor and there could be several excellent choices . You could opt for a spinnerbait and work though the branches , or toss a buzzbait in the same places . Crankbaits may not be a good choice because they hang up easily . You will want a lure that is almost snag-proof to fish deep inside of it . That is where jigs and texas rigs shine . Just ask yourself what you want a lure to do and choose wisely .
  19. We all fish differently and in different areas . I could get by on worms ,hooks , weights , crankbaits , buzzbaits and spinnerbaits .
  20. I use to work with a guy that had a weird eye . He wasnt blind just had a big dark spot . One day i finally asked him about it and he said it was a fishing hook accident when he was a kid . He was getting a snag undone and it flew back at him .
  21. I dont expect a much different bite than what I have experienced all summer but one never knows how the bass are going to act .
  22. What was that at 2:50 , a pike with a broken back ?
  23. For me its when I set the hook and and the fish doesnt budge . My most disappointed moment is when I realize its probably a catfish or a stick . I fought stick last week that came to the surface fast and I was saying " dont jump ,dont jump " .
  24. Its hard to use lures that weigh more than your equipment can handle . If your telescopic rod handles medium sized 1/4 to 1/2 ounce lures well then you will be able to find just about every lure category in that weight range . Just stay within your limits and catch as many bass as you can . Catch enough and you will get some big ones . Sounds like your are serious about bass fishing so stay with it . The harder you work at it the more success you will have .
