  1. Looks like one heck of a good structure lake to me . Look at the saddle on the northwest cove . Those are rare . Fish it hard .
  2. I fish as long as my back allows me . Usually 8 to 12 hours even if the fishing is bad . Sometimes it takes all day to figure things out .
  3. I have next tourney picked and its not even put up yet . LOL A Hackney B A Jones Sr C Powroznik D Chapman E Clunn Powroznik is out Kennedy is in .
  4. Yes I have . I scooped up a floating dead shad put it on a Carolina rig . After a few cast I caught channel cat .
  5. I cant bring them through with the ease of a T-rig either . I use the rig that A-Jay uses only with 1/4 ounce lead weights that I found on-line . I have not been able to find that web address since .
  6. I'm watching the tourney at Lake Champlain and everybody is killing it . Its been that way all year . Limit after limit brought in because of strategic scheduling to try and make it more exciting . Do you think it takes more skill to win a shootout like this or more skill to win a tourney scheduled when the fishing is much tougher ?
  7. Texas rigs are my number 1 bait in rivers . The good thing about a canoe is its much easier to get in and out than a kayak . I get out and fish a lot . I almost always cast upstream. I also anticipate the current and will paddle upstream of my targets , drift downstream and repeat . Its not always easy but one does what one has to . I use a discarded spike plate from railroad tracks for an anchor . I have it pre-tied to the canoe it and just drop it over .
  8. I do but I equipped myself to fish a couple of lakes quickly . There is an almost unknown lake about forty miles away . Its on an obscure , badly cared for gravel road . The type of road where you have to drive 10 MPH . A guy told me it had giant crappie . In my experience lakes with giant crappie also have giant bass . There is a sign that gives the lake regulations .It reads channel cats 12 daily limit .That is all . No mention of crappie or bass . There is a boat ramp where I can launch my Bass Baby. I have a gut feeling my PB swims in those waters .
  9. I was canoeing a river that had a great smallmouth population and zero fishing pressure .As I was paddling I had a plastic worm dangling in the water and a smallmouth hit it. I made a lunge and grabbed the rod . In doing so I half filled the canoe with water . So I got the canoe on bank emptied and all my gear out , looked in the water and there was about twenty 12 inch smallmouths staring at me . I grabbed my rod and picked them off one by one . When people say fishing pressure doesnt effect fish , they have never fished for virgin bass .
  10. Boom lures this year . Berkely Dredgers 10.5 and 14.5 Original Wiggle Wart - Day and Night Luck E Strike 6 inch Twirl tail worms Manns 6&8 inch Jelly worms Homemade buzzbait - Day and night Strike King Midnight special - Night hours Bust lures Soft swimbaits Spinnerbaits during the day Chatterbaits . I have yet to catch a fish on a chatterbait . What was the one thing?
  11. I hate to say it but you have a pretty poor rod and reel but you will have to make due with it . Your also fishing weeds so you need a good weedless bait .Get some thin wire 1.0 offset worm hooks not the extra wide gap hooks . Then get some soft , thin 4 or 6 inch plastic worms . 6 inch worms could always be bitten off to make them smaller .Pick up some 1/8th bullet sinkers then watch the videos about Texas rigs on this site . The Lucke Strike Twirl Tail worms at Wal Mart will work . I use them . You will need the small worms and hooks to get penetration with your gear. I like to run the hook all the way through the worm then pull it back in That gives the hook a channel to go through . That will get you some bites if you throw it in the right spots . You might miss a few especially at first so thats why you should watch the how-to videos .
  12. I tied a record . Zero anglers made the cut .
  13. I have ned rigs , shakey heads , drop shot hooks yet every time I go fishing it doesnt compute to try them . The Texas rig doesnt always work but comes close and I just cant help but throw it in the brush .
  14. No .They went pretty fast .
  15. I like them all . The Larew Salt Craw is the one I have used the most and therefore caught the most fish .
  16. It took me five minutes to pick .Im just bad at prophecy .
  17. A river rat good friend of mine showed me a jar of buffalo teeth that he picked up off of logs on the Mississippi river . He said muskrats bring them up thinking they are muscles , then when they find out they are not , just leave them there . In that jar was a shark tooth .This is up in Missouri .
  18. This tourney is like the last one .Two in the bottom ten and one in the top 50 . I really felt good about this team ,just like last time LOL
  19. It depends on the body of water . A small lake I fish a lot , I use to average a 5 lb bass about every trip . Thats was just a couple of years back . These days a five lb bass is rare .
  20. Of course he did , I picked him .
  21. They are pretty fish .
  22. I visited the Manns factory at Eufala in 1980 and bought four 100 packs of Jelly Worms .
  23. My tie breaking weight is 66 lbs 6 ounces . I dont care if you copy it . LOL
  24. Yeah , its just a suggestion , Gary Yamamoto uses a 3.0 wide gap . Everyone is different . I switched to wide gaps for awhile but felt I was not sticking as many fish . I now only use them on tubes and fat baits .
  25. I hope the fish have lockjaw .
