  1. I just cut and tie . Inspect my line often and cut it often .
  2. I have trolled a crankbait over a deep whole in a small river from a canoe with success . I cant recall the brand .
  3. Its hard to run and gun in a 14 foot jon boat powered by electric motor only . On my bigger boat theres a lot more options . Every day is different . I might jump from point to point but generally will fish them well first .
  4. I dont consider covering water run and gun . Ive covered most of the shoreline of a 200 acre lake in 1 day a couple of times . To me run and gun is pulling up to a spot ,toss a lure a few times , start the big motor and moving on .
  5. Now I'm on the same page as you .
  6. You have to take in consideration that big bass in some spots are not even worth mentioning in others .
  7. I hate to run and gun . I might mark a spot on the sonar , make a few cast and give up but mainly I spend my time casting .
  8. Me too . If I'm on a random school of small bass holding on a featureless bottom then I hardly ever catch a big bass . If I'm on a school of dinks on great structure , then I have caught a lot of big bass mixed in with them .
  9. What if the predominate food source is so available that they can set up anywhere ? The lakes I fish are so full of shad that at times it seems like the entire surface is covered and the depth finder is black because of them .
  10. I have not noticed that behavior where I fish .
  11. Yes . Thats the point.
  12. I take one combo and make sure everything works well with it . Make sure you are equipped with lures for slop . I like frogs and senkos . A floating minnow ,buzzbait . When I use to pond hop as a kid the Storm Thin Fin and large Beetle spin were my best lures . They dont make that beetle spin anymore . I would but a dozen if I could find them .
  13. Doesnt sound stupid to me .
  14. If I'm fishing cover like brush or a downed tree . I dont make a couple of hops and then reel in . I keep hopping that lure until I no longer feel anything , then a couple more hops to be safe . Those big fish are often on the deep part away from what is visible . They often will hit that lure away from cover . I've had a lot of big bass hit right under the boat for some reason .
  15. ... bass hit lures on the fall much more that on the lift . Catfish and white bass are the same way .
  16. Thats wonderful . In Missouri people would just leave their trash a few feet from the barrel and not think anything about it .
  17. If I'm on a pattern and catching a lot of small bass and want something bigger , Then I'll stick with what I'm doing and make minor changes. A little deeper , slightly larger , deeper on cover... I found though , that if I catch enough dinks , I'll stumble on larger fish in the process .
  18. ...but I like 8 tracks.
  19. Do you think the stair step design on baits like the Cavitron is better the the straight wire ? I've been incorporating the stair-step wire in my homemade lures .The thinking is they will ride lower in the water and give the bass a better target resulting in more hook-ups . So far my efforts have been inconclusive .
  20. Someone told you wrong . Young fish , especially , will move all over the place in huge wolf packs sometimes numbering in the hundreds , chasing schools of shad . Here today gone tomorrow .
  21. You ever seen any of them swim ?
  22. The release point is different with a baitcaster than a Zebco . Its earlier .
  23. You have a 12 to 16 foot crankbait . You should have bait's to cover the other depths . A 10 to 12 , 8 to 10 ...
