  1. I use gold shallow and silver deep , generally .I dont know if it makes a difference at all. Sometimes i'll work in copper , white or chartreuse .
  2. It boils down to experience . A correct lure at a correct place at a correct time . If you dont mind putting in long hours with little to show for it , then it will come . I dont use ned rigs , wacky rigs , drop shots , Alabama rigs , split shot rigs ... and still catch good numbers with a few big ones thrown in .
  3. A: Defoe B: KVD C: Kennedy D: Powroznik E: Lucas
  4. Me , this time of year , I mainly go shallow . A consistent plan of attack is to start at a major point and work my way to the back of a cove . Baits include but not limited to are spinnerbaits , square bills , lipless cranks , floating minnows , Texas rigs and weedless jigs .
  5. Lipless baits snag easily. I avoid using them in heavy cover . On relatively open points , which I fish a lot , I will use both . A diving bait that will dig into the bottom and a lipless bait which will sink I will usually hop the lipless bait . The fish will prefer one over the other .
  6. Is that a diamond sharpener . My Leatherman has a diamond file and is a very good hook sharpener .
  7. I'm not listing five . Floating minnows shine post spawn . I like the bomber Long A .
  8. If you are doing a lot of casting and reeling randomly then those are mostly wasted time. Make every cast count for something ., anything .
  9. You dont . Bass will be in cover . Learn the Texas rig .
  10. You dont . Just go fishing and make every cast count for something . If you find cover , throw Texas rigs in the middle of it .
  11. Sounds like youre fishing cover . Learn the Texas rig. Throw it in the cover and work it out . You will eventually get the hang of it , "if" you stick with it . The Texas rig will make you a better angler with all other lures .
  12. I use 12 lb test .Heres a few that I use . The Strike King 6xd works well down to about13 to 16 foot . 10 to 13 foot I use the Rapala CR14 Crankin Rap often. 8 to 10 foot Norman Deep Little N . Shallower than that theres bunches of baits .
  13. Just get the least expensive crawdads you can find . They all work .
  14. Maybe largemouth just thrive better in lakes than rivers with heavy current . Smallmouths do get big in local rivers . No spotted bass around here .
  15. I've only fished two pools 21 and 22 , havent done it for several years. Riprap banks and wing dams are real good in the summer . I like to use Bomber Deep Flat A's in chartreuse . The fun part is not only do bass bite on these spots but so do a lot of other species . We caught nine different kinds one day . Back waters and creeks are good to
  16. The Flying lure . I know its a joke but it works as advertised . Lift it up and it glides away from you . I have never caught anything big with it but I have caught lots of dinks on those things .
  17. I like em all . The Larew Salt craw works well on all of the above . I also like the guido bugs but havent seen them for a long time ..
  18. I go to smaller blades and a natural skirt . If that doesnt do the trick I quit throwing spinnerbaits .
  19. Fishing pressure makes bass fishing more difficult . Some people will disagree with that . I've had un-pressured bass follow me around like pet dogs .
  20. They all work well . Sometimes I reach in my bag and fish whatever I pull out first .
  21. I like the brown lenses . They just seem to separate colors well . Under water and outdoors in general .
  22. Also there was a lot of false hook-setting and missed cast .and pitches .Ive watched part of all three tourneys this year and havent seen them doing anything I couldnt do . I also noticed KVD fishes from the right side of his boat .He had to ask spectators to move out of the way because he fished from that side . That surprised me . I thought top pros would be just as comfortable from either side . I guess KVD does not like back-hand casting too .
  23. Your new to fishing and you cant find fish . By all means study maps .Read articles , watch videos... Before I knew what structure fishing was I spent almost all my of time dissecting visible cover with a variety of lures but Texas rigs were the single most important bait .Lots of great days were had, also had a lot of bad days . Patterns can be developed by just going down the bank .When fishing with no outboard and just a trolling motor I was forced to fish that way or most of the time would be wasted moving around . Pay attention to what you're doing and when you get bit try to duplicate it . And learn how to fish Texas rigs in the snaggiest places you find .There are bass there . The day I caught my first Texas rigged fish i moved up several levels . From novice to ninja . LOL Accept the bad days , everyone has them . I know a lot of people who quit fishing because they liked catching fish but they didnt like fishing .
  24. Never have used a bead ..
