  1. A friend laid his rod down and helped me net a fish . He went back and his combo was missing . We dont know what happened to it .We guessed the lure was hanging in the water and a bass took it .
  2. Even Rattlesless crankbaits rattle . After all my years of fishing rattles remain a mystery . I have a few starting points but am quick to change if I'm not catching fish . When targeting pieces of visible cover , standing tree et al , I usually opt for a quieter bait .I know where the bass should be and do not feel I need the extra noise to attract them . When trolling or fishing offshore structure I usually go with louder baits . The one knockers , I like when fishing extremely slow . I caught some big bass on the Arbogast Mudbug using a one knocker , retrieving it as slow as I can stand it .
  3. I had my bicep reattached two years ago and lost three months of fishing . Three years ago I had major surgery to remove some cancer and lost three more months . When fishing from small craft { canoe , 14 ft jon boat ...] I dont fish in ten mph or greater winds . I have to avoid extreme heat now days . So I watch the weather channel and try to pick the very best days to go . Night fishing trips are becoming more frequent .
  4. I went through a period where I was losing almost all of my big fish. I was trying to horse the fish in like I seen the pros do on TV. Now I'm back to a more finesse approach at landing them and lip almost all of them .
  5. Rivers are cool , they are alive . Exploring one from a canoe or kayak is a lot of fun .
  6. My goal is to find some deep cover or subtle structure on some flats . There are these three flats I know of that always show lots of fish at the same location , on the depth finder for a reason I dont know . The fish are a mixed bag of crappie , channel cats , bluegill and bass . I cant help but think there is some subtle structure or cover there with some monster bass . I just have to take the time to find it .
  7. I always wanted to do an Apocalypse Now thing and blast Flight of the Valkrie .

I caught a bass on a C-rigged Bill Plummer Super frog . I was pond fishing and wanted a frog to look like it was swimming under water . I was new to bass fishing and trying all kinds of stuff . Never heard of a c-rig , just wanted that frog under the water.
  9. Never , Cardinal baseball is acceptable .
  10. I bought a Yum alabama rig kit on clearance and did well with them by themselves . The 3 " Mister Twister Sassy Shad has been slaying bass for decades . The prerigged ones work good too. I've used Storm , Yum and Berkely , all three worked well . The Yum has rattling eyes and a weedguard , I did real well with it . I usually let them sink to the bottom and use different retrieves hopping and dropping or slow and straight .

I'm a Zoom Lizard guy but lots of stuff will work just as well . Do Nothing French Fry worms catch a lot of fish .
  12. Yep , thats the one .
  13. Manns Jelly Worm . It's neat how a lure will get hot and catch fish trip after trip . There have been years where certain crankbait's would get on a hot streak for months. The Jelly worm has been my top producing lure for more years than any other lure . .
  14. I have a Musky Jitterbug . Bought it in the 80's because Bassmaster had an article on it for night fishing . Never caught a fish on it but had some huge explosions . Who knows , those explosions may have been frightened carp .
  15. I like Hunnewell lake in Northeast missouri . Its a 200 acre lake and private boats are not allowed The conservation department furnishes 14 foot flat bottomed jon boats , free of charge . Bring your electric motor and battery , I also take a depth finder . This lake has a 12 to 15 inch slot and most of the fish will fall in the slot . I try to get a limit of 11 to 12 inch fish to eat , every time I go . Theres a lot of small bass and a fair number of 6 lb plus bass . The medium size three to four lbers are kind of rare . I routinely have 70to 100 bass days here . Twenty fish is a bad day . Any of you St Louis anglers want to catch a lot of bass and not worry to much about size , this is the place .
  16. I have several Flat a's . The chartreuse ones are my favorite baits to fish the wing dams on the Mississippi river .
  17. Heres the different lip sizes . The old one is a lot smaller and doesnt dive as deeply . The body shapes are identical .
  18. You're both mistaken .There is a difference . The lip in my picture is not the deeply cupped wide lip like on hooties lures . Hooties are not the stretch but the 10 plus , or 15 plus baits .
  19. I like .
  20. I picked up these three a day ago at a trading post . I like finding these places better than going to a store . Theres a lipped floating Rattle Trap . Never used one . Looks like a gimmick , it might just get hung with some other oddball lures I collect. A Manns Deep Razorback Pig . I have caught a lot of bass on these lures . Then there is a Wordens Timber Tiger . I have never used one .but look forward to trying to bang them off of standing timber . All three look new and cost me a total of six dollars .
  21. This is what I have . 2 rattlins , 1 quiet and 1 with a spoonbill . 1 I found and has battle scars. The spoonbill I used once . I weighted the front hook to make it suspend . I want to weight the rest to suspend with Suspendin Dots .
  22. I have a couple of old floating Rogues that I have never used . I need to weight them . How do you guys weight yours . i have Suspend Dots .
  23. I never use the chaterbaits but use crankbaits agonizingly slow .
