  1. I dont know what color it is but theres two spots I'd be hitting hard .
  2. I dont buy jig trailers. As long as its a decent color I use whatever piece of torn up plastic thats lying on the bottom of the boat .
  3. I usually dont put a lot of thought into a plastic jig trailer often just using a tore up lizard , craw , worm...When I first started using jigs I mostly used pork or a Mister Twister Double tail . Pork was usually a muddy or cold water choice or if I was targeting bigger fish . The Mister Twister was for clear or warm water .
  4. I still use and seek out older baits simply because I know they work . I use a lot of Bomber model A's , Fat Free Shad / Fingerling, Rapala Fat Raps , Rebel Deep wee R's , Norman Deep Little N's , Wiggle Warts and my favorite shallow runner the Rogers Big Jim . The Big Jim has a subtle action and the local bass just charge it often taking it deep . I would like to find more of those .
  5. LOL Bet that was a surprise .
  6. I've seen the purple crawdads , greens , browns with orange tips ...I dont know if they change color with seasons so I just guess when choosing colors . Off subject but those bottom dwelling darters come in a rainbow of colors . I use to keep a bunch in an aquarium and they would be turquoise , orange , yellow ...and I seined them locally . The cleaner the water the brighter the colors were.
  7. Mine was on a shallow diving Rapala Clankin Rap , Red Claw . It was large enough to be an 8 lber , skinny enough to be a five lber , so I'll split the difference and say it was in the 6's .
  8. yep , had a brand new Norman DD22 .Reared back and fired a cast , the line snapped and I never did find that bait .
  9. I would go with a black and chartreuse jig and trailer .
  10. I have lots of crankbaits in just one color but a baitfish and something with some chartreuse are my favorites . I quit trying to have everything long ago .
  11. A Beetle Spin tournament .
  12. I use lots of different jigheads and they all work and are often interchangeable .If I feel like using a football jig I'll tie it on knowing there's a good chance I'll catch something with it . I have some light weight quarter ounce football jig heads with the wire worm keepers on them .One day I caught probably fifty smallmouth using it in combination with a Zoom Trick worm while wading a river . i could have used a lot of jig head plastic combinations that day and done just as well but when something is working I stick with it .I picked it that day because I wanted something extremely snagless and not roll over .
  13. Out catching dinks and net a world record .Thats the way to do it .
  14. I suspect it goes farther than just gaining information .You're a sponsor . You want your guy to win so you can sell your merchandise . How easy would it be to send a couple of fellows too a location too prefish for a tournament .
  15. If I was a pro tournament fisherman I would upgrade my trebles . Most lures today come with a hook good enough for me . A lot of the old baits had terrible hooks . I even have some made out of aluminum . i only upgrade on old lures or hooks that are damaged .
  16. I just pick them up in the streets after a hard rain . When I was a kid I had a four foot section of culvert pipe sunk in the ground and covered . . I kept the crawlers in a styrofoam cooler and would keep them in that pipe . I was also told to feed them coffee grounds . Do worms really eat coffee grounds ?
  17. I separate them in half with my thumb then press down just enough to slightly spread them .If the bristles are unusually stiff , I bend them back and forth to weaken them.
  18. I've never even owned a spoonplug but know how effective they can be . I watched a couple of guys pull some nice bass and a big flathead off a point trolling these weird looking spoons .
  19. Thoughts go out to his family . I use to read Bassmaster cover to cover and Ken Cook was one of my favorites .
  20. I would pick a zoom lizard. That way I can buzz it on top if needed to .
  21. Snakes dont frighten me .
  22. I bought a jar of black/blue and black/yellow at Walmart a week ago . Might be the last jars I ever buy .
  23. I would shorten the trailer up a lot maybe forego it all together .
  24. I also buy used and new lures at various second hand / antique stores.., .Theres one crankbait no longer made that I highly covet . I found a couple a few years ago lost one but still have one . I like fishing small lakes with small craft . I rigged a depth finder on an old trolling motor bracket , so I'm ' one of the few anglers to fish these waters with eyes under water . I save 50 to 100 dollars a trip when I leave the big boat at home .
  25. Usually the fishing is pretty good when you can hear owls hooting during the day .
