  1. I am always looking out for seagulls . Even if they are on the bank , they are waiting at the best spots while the scouts look for feeding fish .
  2. Why I am a worse crankbait fisherman than you . I dont deflect crankbaits off of wood , when I bump a tree the lure attaches itself to the tree .
  3. !/8th ounce Rattle Trap , Strike King Rocket Shad / Bitsy Bug / Mini spin ,all kinds of small soft plastics to name a few .
  4. Excellent advice , I need to adopt this . I always liked to camp on the lake the night before a tournament and just spend sometime sitting on the bank and watching what is going on. .
  5. Why I am a worse top water angler than you . I get an explosion then set the hook on nothing .
  6. Thats what I would do .
  7. Bummer , I would not have purchased it if I knew it only runs about 8 foot . I dont need another 8 foot crankbait .
  8. Fishing is real. Video games are not .
  9. I bend the eye one way and if it gets worse then i go the other way .
  10. Bluebird skies after a front dont seem to affect the deeper population of bass much . As far as shallow fish are concerned , make accurate cast to cover . I use a lot of plastic worms at those times . I like to cast pass the target reel it quickly until I'm next to and then kill it .
  11. I dont know about that . seems to me that crawdads and bait fish have a lot of contrast going on .
  12. I picked up two bottles of 11A's from Wal Mart . They didnt have ant 11's .
  13. I dont know what Missouris law is .I catch several fish a year on a texas rig hooked underneath the mouth .I have never figured out why . Are they trying to pin the lure to the bottom ?
  14. I feel my strongest bass fishing skill is hopping sinking lures off the bottom so... ...Why I am better at detecting strikes than you . When I was a kid back in the 60's and 70's , I fished for bass , crappie , whites ,,,, on the Mississippi river and backwaters . Id ride my bike there and had a super cheap solid fiberglass pole and a zebco 202 reel that would never cast . Walking the banks with a crappie size yellow or white Doll fly I would jig it around the rocks brush , eddys , current breaks,,, I learned where the good spot were .Holding the rod in front of the reel with the line between my index finger and thumb I was able to detect light bites . I would spend hours down there, then ride back home to clean my catch .My dad worked at the Lock and dam and I would go with him. He worked his shift day or night and I would spend 8 hours fishing below the dam. Most of the time was spent tight lining for catfish until they opened the locks , then Id have the doll fly out because the game fish would go on a feeding spree . I still hold the rod with the line between the finger and thumb and am pretty decent at detecting strikes . There was no learning how to fish a Texas rig, jig n pig or other bottom bouncing lures , I could feel the slight taps since the first time I fished them .
  15. I purchased one of these today , the series 2 . The main reason is because its listed diving range is 8 to 22 feet . What ? Thats a big difference . So I'm hoping it will split the middle and get down to about 14 foot with 12 lb test . I wont be able to use it for several months now . Do any of you know how deep this thing actually goes ?
  16. I simplified a lot in 2015 .Basic Texas rigged worms caught a bunch of fish for me . Over the years Ive been throwing a lot of Lizards , craws , creatures .... but the old straight tail 6 inch worm " Manns Jelly worm " put the numbers in the boat . Lots of fish on med to deep diving crankbaits . Fished a few times at night under different moon phases . The full moon night was by far the best night . Maybe in clearer water the new moon is better but where I fish the full moon is best .Two best bass of the year came on a full moon night , off of a red craw Rapala shallow diving Crankin Rap .
  17. I had a good year for numbers when I got a chance to fish . This year fished deeper for me than the past several seasons with a lot of fish coming 12 to 15 foot on cranks and t-rig jelly worms .I found out that Watermelon chartreuse is a very good color in stained water at those depths .
  18. I use the xraps successfully in 1 foot of visibility . Generally its when bass are just bumping crankbaits . The only ones I have are the silvery ones .
  19. Better yet rent a boat . I fished it once . Ive never seen another place like it . .I only caught 1 bass , a dogfish , some bluegill and crappie .
  20. If you use a shad crankbait or spinnerbait ... in a lake full of shad its not going to match the hatch very well . The action of those lures are going to make it stand out .
  21. Sometimes I use colors that have caught fish before under the same conditions . Sometimes I use whatever floats my boat .
  22. Thats the one I have except mine is blue .
  23. I use a "knocker" dont know the make , often . Last year I lost one crankbait .
  24. I wear a vest and stuff the pockets with small boxes . I carry one rod and reel combo , so the few lures I take have to fit that combo .
  25. I'm on the Mississippi pool 22 . ive done al ot of fishing in the backwaters , dikes and rip rap banks but only fished sand bars below islands twice with no success . I'll have to give them another shot .
