  1. I dont have problems with my bait balling up anymore because i learned to peg it. I just wanted to know all the different ways others peg their worms. I still dont believe that some of you have never missed a fish because your worm has balled up. I just dont believe it. I think its happened to KVD , Rick Clunn , Larry Nixon and everyone who has ever fished a texas rig .
  2. Peg the lure . Theres a lot of different ways to do it . I use a heavier weight than most people and fish the worm a lot faster than most. A 6 inch worm I'll usually have a 3/16th ounce weight sometimes 1/4. I'll slow down in cover but I like to work the lure way past the cover. Bass dont just hunker down and stay put. They roam around the cover and I catch a lot of fish once the bait leaves cover or even before it. People will say Im doing it wrong , but even the pros all have different methods. Larry Nixon and Bill Dance two legendary texas rig fishermen , have different philosophies . Nixon uses heavier weights and fishes faster than Dance. At least thats what he says . I usually peg the sinker with a bobber stop in cover but if I'm fishing away from cover , I will adjust the stop about 6 inches in front of the worm.
  3. The river I fish is farm runoff brown and there are some nice fish in it. Texar rigged craws , buzzbaits , poppers , and half Senkos account for most of the fish. I just go casting at whatever looks good , ripples and holes .
  4. Ive used spinning gear for pitching. It will pitch farther than a caster. I dont utilize then enough .
  5. When hooking bass on the side of the face , its time to try this .
  6. I consider them topwaters .
  7. Most of my crank-baits were manufactured at a time when hooks were just an afterthought . So I have to change hooks. Some baits just have bad designed hook hangers. Two of my favorites the already mentioned Rebel Deep Wee R and the Rapala Fat Rap are approximately the same size and both are medium divers but I use different hooks for each. The Deep Wee R is a great fish catcher but the hangers are too close and I put the short shanks on those and other baits with the same problem. With the Fat Rap the hangers are farther apart and I can just use regular and less expensive round bend trebels on them.
  8. You need to share your secrets so they can sell more and grow and develop other products .
  9. I use short shanks on baits that the hooks are to close to each other and are prone to tangling . Rebel Deep Wee R is a good example. Otherwise I use inexpensive VMC round bend or Mustad round bend trebels.
  10. I bet you thought you had a giant bass. What a thrill it must have been . I only caught one channel in my life on a top water. I was throwing a buzzbait at night and missed a humungous strike. I quickly fired back and the lure got smashed again. I thought I had the Missouri record bass on. It was a channel maybe 10 lbs.
  11. OK , one lure that I like to use when bites are hard to come by on high bluebird days is a small Rapala x-rap. I usually use three twitches then pause.
  12. Topwaters are usually out. Other than that , I just go fishing.
  13. I walk the rock bars , wade and even take midnight canoe trips. Its no more difficult than fishing lakes. I think the small river I do this on is perhaps a little larger than the ones your fishing. I also dont use cranks very often .
  14. I use to walk the banks of the Mississippi river and fish rip rap banks. Id cast the H and H spinners upstream and reel them in fast enough to feel the blade turn. They were killer lures. When a barge would go by , especially one going up river , huge waves would bang up against the rocks dislodging crayfish and baitfish. Largemouths , smallmouts , walleye , and whites would take advantage and feed aggressively. Thats when the h and h really shined. They were cheap too, so I didnt mind losing them in the rocks.
  15. I put the hook on upside down , every-time and have to redo it. LOL
  16. On the Ozark lakes I use to catch lots of fish on bluffs with Texas rigged Jelly worms. I havent been to any of those lakes for years . Like the video shows, the bait has to drop straight down. On my home lake , which is always stained to muddy , bluff fishing is tougher but I fish them the same way.Top waters can be good on cloudy days . Chuggers can work well on sunny days with a lot of wind.
  17. Texas rigged craws are what Ive done the best with. Top waters work well . Night fishing is good in the summer.
  18. I always used them plain. I liked them in current .
  19. Good or bad. Years ago I drew a partner for a small one day tournament who had his neck fused together . He could not move it at all. He had one "Fishin pole" a spincaster with about twenty foot of line that he could not cast and maybe two lures. It was early in the year and cold . I caught a keeper on a jig and pig and loaned him one. He could not cast it so he imitated me the best he could , lifting and dropping the lure straight up and down directly under the boat. We were in shallow water and he caught four keepers and won the tourney. I tried copying him but could not catch a fish. I have put others on fish before that have won tourneys but I could not take any credit for this one .
  20. An article states its average depth is 20 foot. I recommend too just put in a lot of depth finder work , looking for irregularities , cover , and fish. Might as well troll a crankbait while your at it. Watch for seagulls. They put me on fish a lot. Even if the gulls are sitting on bank they will be close to the places where game fish hit baitfish . Lots of people dont like searching for deep water fish but I enjoy it .
  21. I dont know which bass is my personal best. Ive caught quite a few in that 7 possibly 8 lb mark but not one that I can say is my biggest ever. So I will tell about my biggest this year. July , raining , fallen tree , Lunker Lure . Not much more to tell. Handheld spring scales had it at 7 and 3/4 .
  22. Is it silted in to the point where it is just a few feet deep ?
  23. LOL. I did the same thing once when I was young. Its not a very good idea. Edited. I misunderstood . I thought you ran across the pond leaning on the boat to spread your weight. Your way with the rope is pretty clever.
