  1. Im changing mine from carp to Channel cats. July and august I catch lots of channels on deep flats. Its the most predictable fishing I know of.
  2. What a unique bait. First is there a rattle in the blade? Also it looks to have a clapper like the discontinued Bass Pro Tornado. Id like to have those.
  3. Rattle Traps . Bounce them off the bottom.
  4. Most of the time I fish lipless crankbaits is along the bottom on good structure like points . Usually I will lift and let it drop like a worm. Chrome Rattle Traps work well for this type of fishing.
  5. I start out fishing deep often . If I think the bass will be hanging off shore I want to find out as fast as I can. Deep for me is 10 , 15 to 20 foot. The water here is always at least stained and 15 to 20 foot is where the thermoclines form if its that time of year.
  6. Searching on the web for Vintage Bayou Boogies , I think thats it. The eyes look like a Bayou boogie .
  7. Whichever one it is , Id replace the hooks and use it.
  8. After ice out and several successive days of warm weather. Here in Northern missouri that might be as early as February . I always had a hard time catching fish in the morning at this time but in the afternoon with the sun shining I have caught some of my largest bass . I have had the most success on steeper banks and a crankbait reeled "Very" slowly. Fred Argobast Mudbugs are a good choice.
  9. The top one looks like a trolling spoon. Maybe a Buck Perry spoon plug.
  10. I think the bottom is a Heddon Bayou boogie or maybe a Pico Perch. They are great lures. Like a rattle trap without the rattles.
  11. What was the name of the fish attractant made of real crawfish oil , Real Crawl or Real Claw ? I sprayed a palstic crawfish down with it and was fishing about 15 foot deep and got a pickup. I did not set the hook , but slowly reeled the bass to the surface. It did not let go of that lure. I dont remember if I finally set the hook or it let go at the boat but it was neat.
  12. Championship Fishing with Virgil Ward. Watched it every sunday. At the end of the show he'd swim his Scorpion , Beetle Spin...in an aquarium and show us how he worked it. He worked them all the same. Lift and drop. I loved that show .
  13. I can contribute to this thread. The lure is a Rogers Big Jim with short shank KVD hooks.. Big Jims are fantastic square bills. I just pushed it through .
  14. I have reached my quota of positive votes. LOL. I liked your post primetime .
  15. This is not a technique that I am skilled at. I have caught a few fish in cold water on a suspending Bomber Long A . The one with the clear sides and mirror insert .
  16. I thought I had too much tackle and about twenty years ago sold a bunch of it in a yard sale. Ive been beating myself up ever since. Most of those lures are no longer made and they were good baits .
  17. I caught a small channel "fiddlers we call them" . I was barefoot. It flipped off the hook and impaled my middle toe. It thrashed about stuck on that toe. I dont have to tell you what that felt like .
  18. ^^ I like looking through others tackle boxes for chewed up lures. Someone gave me a used Sammy top water , that lure's been through heck. I still dont know why he gave it away . I guess he had a new shiny one .
  19. I sincerely thank you Maxximus for a honest informative answer. Ive been using offsets since eagle Claw came out with the 295jb but recently been thinking about that little offset partially getting in the way.
  20. I have an old box of size 1 Eagle Claw Worm style 44. These are like the tru turns that are suppose to turn on the hook set. Anyway , Ive had these for years and forgot about them. Just recently found them. Any of you ever use this hook? If yes, what was your impression ? Pros and cons .
  21. Never mind. I used the search function and found some satisfactory answers.
  22. Which do you prefer ? Do straight shanks hook better ? I'd really like to hear from those who have used both extensively . Edited: Of course Im referring to Texas rigs .
  23. They all work well. That said Larew salt craws are my favorite .
  24. Some of the best ones come from fellow bass anglers. I was fishing a shallow rocky hump and a bass boat is running fast right toward it. Im standing there waving my arms at him , I dont want him to tear up his rig. He stops and ask whats the matter. I tell him hes about to hit bottom. He says "I know, I hit it yesterday." Im working my way down the bank and a bass angler pulls right in front of me and starts casting. Im peed but remain friendly. I ask if hes doing any good and he replies " Yesterday , I caught a 6 lber right where I cut you off." Im fishing this spot and a tournament angler comes barreling in, shuts off his motor and ask "Are you fishing this spot?'
