  1. My next boat will be like that. Bass fishing is my favorite but I love going after channel cats too. I need a fishing boat not a tournament bass boat.
  2. Went fishing monday in north Missouri. Water temp was 55 to 58. Bass in the creeks feeding heavily, in about five foot of water. The back of the creeks were fishless. Fishing was easy and the seagulls would tell you where the bait was.
  3. I fillet bass. A lot of the lakes in Missouri have a slot limit and the Conservation Department begs anglers to harvest fish under the limit. I am happy to oblige. Last nights meal was fried in a cast iron pan . The fillets dipped in egg and some Andys Red. Baked beans , cole slaw and corn bread accompanied the meal. There was no fish leftover.
  4. Fat as a Toad.What a catch.
  5. Update. Replaced the hooks with the KVD short shanks. Zero tangles and good hookups. Thanks for the suggestions.
  6. What kind of blades did it have?
  7. Same here. Back before our lakes were overfished I used heavier weights. This day and age , light weights rule. Biggest disappointment . A homemade buzzbait I purchased last summer. It would not squeak . I left it in a rental boat for someone else to use.
  8. Any soft plastic or jig that resembles a crawdad.
  9. It doesnt take much to fish a creek out. Unmolested bass are easy to catch. is it possible someone else has been catching the bass there?
  10. Its getting cold and windy. I was able to fish a little yesterday and hope its not my last time for the year. I thought Id show the results of my last six fishing trips starting in August and ending yesterday' Brutally hot summer . Decided to try some night fishing.Caught on a black Lunker Lure at 3 in the morning. Right before dark. 15 foot deep flat on a Texas rigged worm. September. Caught about 8 foot deep on a Fat Free Fingerling. The trees are turning. Caught on a vintage Rogers Big Jim. This particular lure works magic on this lake. The fish just lat out slam it. The Big Jim strikes again. October 29th. The Big Jim nabs another one.
  11. Too me fall time is crankbait time. Through the years the Bomber Model A has probably been my most productive bait this time of year.
  12. Here are the tools a multitool should have for a bass fisherman. Knife, pliers, hook sharpener, jig eye paint remover. The Leatherman Wave ,Charge and Surge have those. Personally I think the Surge is to big. The Wave is a lot less expensive than the Charge. I picked up the Charge from a pawn shop. The Wave would be the best buy. The Charge has a better knife steel but not worth the extra bucks IMO. The diamond file is an excellent hook sharpener. I would not consider a multitool for fishing without the diamond file. There is an eyeglass screwdriver on these tools. it can be sharpened and used as a jig eye paint remover.
  13. Im guessing your in Florida. How big will those Peacocks get down there?Man, Id like to catch one.
  14. I once caught a bass with a plastic worm hanging out of its behind.
  15. I loved those.I still have one scorpion.
  16. You see, Im not really a fisherman, Its just on Sundays I like to dress up like Virgil Ward and recreate some of his classic fishing shows. I pretend Im catching fish from the lakes of northern Canada to the Gulf of Mexico. If I could just get those beetle spins rigged perfectly.
  17. Had them twice.First time I was dry heaving like MCS, in the emergency room. Dr said"Welcome to the wonderful world of kidney stones." LOL. Smart aleck.
  18. What lures, that are no longer available still catch a lot of fish for you. My tackle collection is is teeming with lures that are no longer made. Argobast Mudbugs are real good in early, early spring. Rogers Big Jims have been tearing up the bass for me the last couple of years. Im not buying new silent cranks when I have vintage ones that flat out produce. Riverside Top Gun soft jerk baits are my go to lure in slop. One of the best Big Bass baits Ive ever used. Fat Raps might still be made but i have not seen them on the shelves for years. They are my "Jack of All Trade" crankbait. Not specializing in any particular situation but one of the best "junk" fishing lures I ever employed. What are some of yours?
  19. Table Rock lake they do this a lot. You will see them in deep water , I think they are targeting spots.
  20. When I was a boy back in the 60s I use to catch bass on nightcrawlers at farm ponds. Id wacky rig it under a bobber with a solid fiberglass fishing pole and a Zebco 202.That was my introduction into bass fishing. This is quite possibly the first bass I ever caught.
  21. A person cant be an expert at every lure or technique, theres just to many to try. Ive caught lots on tubes but not on jerkbaits.
  22. Ive only caught a few fish in my life on suspending jerk baits. I used the Suspending Long A because I love the floater so much. I recently picked up a couple of smaller X-Raps , hoping that the smaller baits will get bit more.
  23. Ive caught bass in the late fall while it was snowing with buzzbaits. That same water temp in the spring wont get bit. Go figure. Im guessing the water temp here is still in the 50s and dropping quick.Havent been in three weeks now, the temps were in the 60s. Might have to toss a Lunker Lure , if I get a chance to fish again this season.
  24. My first was an L&S jointed lure that looked like a bullhead. Never caught a fish with it.
