  1. I dont know for sure but I think the bass will move on top of the points at unpredictable times. Its only a short move. I have recently found the fish off the edges of points suspended. I caught them with lipless crankbaits worked at their depth. They would not hit a soft plastic.
  2. Oh yeah. Waves keep things stirred up . Bass fishing is usually better on the windy banks.
  3. I always have at least a backpack rod and reel with a few Beetle spins under the seat. I use to drive a van with rod racks in it. I had 6 rods at all times.
  4. I use a heavy weight to cover flats, points.... quickly. If Im going to fish slow , then just use a Texas rig.
  5. In the spring I normally used tandem blades and switch to singles after the spawn. The last couple of years I used a single Turtle back blade in the spring with real good success. Thats why the question. Edited. They are not quite Turtleback design. They are Terminator "Oklahoma" blades that I took off of Terminator baits because the were too heavy for the lure wt. and came in sideways, then placed them on a heavier lure.
  6. I talk to some of the local guys who fish the major reservoir here and they say fishing is real tough. I guess a year of fishing pressure has taken its toll on the lake. I've been fishing small lakes that don't receive so much pressure and fishing is excellent right now. To me, the surest bet to catching bass this day and age is to go where the fish are not pounded.
  7. I like the Bomber Flat A.
  8. I use common 3/4 ounce egg sinkers. Down to twenty feet on mostly mud and clay bottoms. The thermocline here is usually between 15 and 20 feet. Fish can be caught deeper in the fall but I usually use different baits then. The egg sinkers work well for me.
  9. Im not going to get into specifics because everybody has different opinions. Deep and shallow crankbait Lipless crankbait floating minnow. Ill be specific this time." Bomber Long A Minnow" in silver flash Buzz bait Spinnerbait Plastic worm, Lizard, Craw, Popper This will get you started
  10. Why double blades? What do they do that a single wont do? I have a large selection of both but dont see an advantage with two blades. I think I could fish the rest of my life with one blade and not miss duos blades at all.
  11. Making spinnerbaits is to much work. My local store has these 1/2 ounce Strike Kings for a buck fifty. I made my own single hook Rocket Shad out of it. Here its pictured next to a 1/2 ounce R.S. before and after the alterations. Its slightly bigger , I think it will work great. Ill use it on my next outing.
  12. Im going to reopen this old thread. I try to fish solo 100 percent of the time. I catch more and bigger fish when by myself. I only take someone if they ask to go and I feel obligated. One person told me that he would not go back to my good spots because he doesnt have a boat. Someone else took him one time and he says "I know a good spot ."
  13. I have a spinnerbait mold that hasnt been used for twenty years. This winter Im going to make my own version .
  14. There are two problems with this bait. The skirt falls apart easily and I have yet to figured out a suitable replacement . Then the hook will come off during a fight . I have added small rubber o-rings or a small split ring on the shank to keep the hook on. I would love to see a small spinnerbait , that heavy with a regular single hook made.
  15. Count it down and try to catch suspended fish.
  16. I did a search on this lure and came up empty. I know some of you have to use this lure. Maybe its a well kept secret. I think they are great tools. When they first came out I knew they would work well for me. I have a small utility box stuffed with these mighty mites because they catch fish. My two favorite places to use them are on rivers and deep water points. I like to cast them upstream along riprap in fast current and burn them back. Largemouths, smallmouths, whites and hybrids will rush out of their hiding places and annihilate it. On the deep points I either hop it like a worm or reel it in a few revolutions and let it drop. They are so versatile that It surprises me that more is not said about them. Q
  17. I plan on fishing to December , then it gets to cold and the lakes freeze. You never know what is going to work.Bottom bouncing lures are good at times, crankbaits work well after a few days of warm weather. I havent done well on the local large reservoir when the water gets cold but have had good days on smaller bodies of water.
  18. This time of year the bass are active, I agree with papajoe. No need to slow down now. I set aside the worm rod in favor of the crankbait rod.
  19. In my neck of the woods the bass are thick and hungry in the back 1/3 of creeks. But the water is stained with no vegetation.
  20. That just keeps the worm from balling up on the shank. I think it hooks more bass and snags less when working through brush.
  21. I must be lucky and have good water to fish in as I rarely get skunked and often catch big fish . My avatar photo was caught in July on a 2.5 inch worm. A Senko cut in half and tricked out. LOL. I usually fish in small Conservation department lakes on week day's and frequently have the lake to myself. Here's a photo of the tricked out Senko.
  22. I opted to go to size 8 hooks. Yesterday I started out throwing a Bandit shallow running crank . Caught a fish in the first couple of cast then nothing for a long time. When I did catch another fish , it was hooked on the outside. Time to go to the old reliable rattleless Big Jim. Caught a fish on the first cast. He smashed it. Caught many ,many more then a big one hit it. I played it out and landed it. I was lucky .Even though the bait was well inside the mouth the tiny hooks did not have a good hold on it. Im going to have to buy some short shank hooks. I bought these lures at an antique store for .50 each. The hooks are going to cost four times what the lure did LOL. Thats cool, the bass here hammer them.
  23. This is yesterdays haul. The lake has a slot limit ,12 to 15 inch fish must be released. The Conservation Dept encourages the harvest of small bass in a lot of our lakes. So I target 11 inchers to eat. Those pesky big fish interrupt the fun. Fish were caught on a Rogers shallow diving Big Jim.
  24. The Red Eyed Shad has quickly become my favorite. When fishing from a jon boat you can hear the rattles amplified through the hull. On the Red Eye, I can actually hear it going click, click, click as it falls. These lures, IMO, are at their best in deep water. I like to work them like a worm.
  25. I have caught more bass on a 6 inch Jelly Worm than any other lure. Black Grape is my favorite color. I use to buy them in the 100 packs. Also liked Blueberry and Motor Oil. I Texas rigged then exclusively usually with a 3/16th ounce weight and 2.0 Eagle Claw 95JB. Used a 5.5 foot heavy action rod , 14 lb Stren and crossed their eyes Roland martin style.
