  1. My lineup for 2015. Not many changes, but there's some new toys added.
  2. I use a small pair of scissors that came with a spool of Sufix 832 braid, and for non-braided lines I use the Baker Comfort Grip Clippers. I am very interested in seeing the new Splizzors from Buck Knives. http://www.buckknives.com/product/splizzors/0030RDS-B/
  3. You can put some electricians tape around the spool beforehand. This will give the braid something to grab onto, but most people use some mono backing so that they can use a spool of braid on multiple reels.
  4. I can't believe you got yours already! I ordered my Alphas SV on the 13th, and the tracking shows it is still in Chicago as of this morning. What are your early impressions of the reel so far?
  5. I paid the same, but my tracking shows that it hasn't quite landed stateside, yet!
  6. I stocked up on the following items for the season this weekend: Tatula 7.3:1 Daiwa Alphas SV Cocoon Style Line MX (green mirror lens) 1/16oz tungsten weights Megabass Ito Vision 110 jerkbait 1/4oz jigs in PB&J Sunline Sniper 14# Seaguar Smackdown 65# Yamamoto Flappin Hogs in Green pumpkin a local hand poured drop shot worm (looks like a mini senko) a few Rapala crankbaits in crawfish colors (from Ollies) 3 Red Eye Shads, Orange Craw, Chili Craw, and Morjarra and a Lucky Craft Pointer 78 in crystal pro-blue
  7. I would put Mosquito at the top of this, but it only has LMB. For both LMB and SMB I would suggest Milton, or Berlin.
  8. It's a nice lake to fish. The shallow road bed is a good place to start, but in May you are not going to have too many weeds to fish. There's a bridge that cuts the lake in half, and if you fish along the riprap you will at least get your limit. Near the southern end of the lake is an area that will get to about 25 FOW, and you can crank or dropshot that section to get your kicker. I have a small club tournament at Mosquito on April 26th, so I can give you some feedback afterwards.
  9. Try these: Milton, Berlin, Clear Fork, Seneca, East Branch, La Due, and Mosquito Lake.
  10. Milton can be really good, but you'll be dealing with a lot of pleasure boaters. Berlin has some nice smallmouth in it, but depending on how deep the Corp of Engineers keep the water levels it can be good or bad. While you're in that area you should also check out West Branch State Park, too.
  11. Fisherman's Central is really nice! The pricing is pretty close to TW!
  12. Well as an update I pulled the trigger on the new Alphas SV 105SHL. I ordered through Japan Lure Shop yesterday, and got shipping confirmation this morning. I also bought a Tatula from Ripppin Lips and that should be here soon, too. I'm excited to see what all the fuss is about for the SV spool!

  14. While I have no scientific data to back up my claim I feel that plastic lenses have improved over the years to the point that a higher end (not talking about gas station $5 sunglasses) manufacturer has plastic lenses that are almost as good as glass. I personally prefer plastic lenses over glass for 2 reasons. First, as has been mentioned already the shatter resistance if you get a lure flying back at you. Second, is the weight. Glass weights a lot more, and over the course of the day it is much more comfortable to wear plastic lenses.
  15. Kajun Boss is also a low priced option for tungsten.
  16. Get the Ardent, and use the $100 gift card to buy the Lexa.
  17. Congrats, Dwight!!!!
  18. From the Shimano website: Limited Lifetime Warranty Rods Effective August 1, 2014 the warranty on all Shimano rods is changing to a Limited One Year warranty. Please note that we will honor the limited lifetime warranty on all rods purchased prior to August 1, 2014. They will only honor a 1-year warranty at
  19. Try using the KVD Line conditioner.
  20. I swear by their Vibration lipless crankbait in the color Gold Black.
  21. You can negate the need of the swivel by using the VMC spinshot hooks.
  22. 1. The current model went back to cork grips from the previous model that had the foam grips, and prior to the foam grip model would be the one you have. As far as the actual age in years I don't know exactly. 2. If you have a local guy that can do repairs I would have him take a look at it. 3. I would also use this rod for frogs.
