  1. This thread provided me with the afternoon laugh I was needing!
  2. And it would sell for 10x the MRSP just for the simple fact that his hands had touched it.
  3. I don't know the brand of the hooks on the Pop max, but the size is a number 4.
  4. I've fished Berlin in the past, but not this year. I won't be going out there until May 31st for a club tournament. I know that TBF/FLW will hold the State Tournament there in the fall, and if I qualify I will be heading back there at that time.
  5. I just had a small club tournament this past weekend - the winner had just over 9lbs on a 5 fish bag. The water temps were about 47 to 49 degrees on the waters I fished south of the causeway and down to the State Park ramps on over to the dam. I had fished it the weekend prior, and the water temps were 56 degrees. The week of cold weather has really cooled that lake off a good bit. I was hooking into northern pike more than I was LMB - on both weekends. I only had 1 keeper, and a good number of short fish on Sunday (4/26). I am thinking that in May the lake should be hopping as the bass are in the spawn/post spawn phase. It is usually a good lake to catch numbers in, but as far as getting size I just don't think Mosquito is the place for it anymore.
  6. Put some tape around the feet of the reel, and see if that gives you some better grip.
  7. When you do find the time to get to Erie then you should check out East Harbor. You can stay in the harbor and get your fill of green fish, and if you feel like getting some brown fish then you can quickly head over to the islands and go for them! I love going to East Harbor!!!
  8. I have been having some fun with the Zoom Magnum Shakey Worm. I also like the Big Bite Baits Squirrel Tail Worms.
  9. I tried Lew's (Speed Spool & Tournament), Abu (Revo & SX), and Shimano (Citica & my buddy's Metanium) and there was always that just wasn't comfortable about them in my hands. I had not complaints about any of their quality whatsoever, but there was something that kept me from finding a comfortable way to palm the reel. Then I got a Daiwa Zillion and never looked back. I have sold/traded my other reels and have a lineup of Alphas, Zillions, Fuegos, and a PXL-R. They are worry free, and easy to use with the Magforce braking system. By no means am I saying they are perfect either - I'm not crazy about the knobs on the Zillions, but I fixed that with Reel Grips. The drags could be better on the Alphas (Ito AI & SS models), but I have also never lost a fish because of it either. In my hands the pros outweigh the cons. This is the great thing about fishing gear though. What makes my motor purr in one brand of reels might make somebody else think it's total rubbish. Now in regards to rods...I am all over the place with them, and have no rhyme or reason when buying them as far as brands are concerned. I am strictly looking at the rods action for the specific presentation I am looking to do with it.
  10. Those baby d bombs will work just fine.
  11. The word is that ODNR electro-fished Mosquito and moved some of the larger fish to other lakes like Berlin, Milton, and West Branch. I was just there this past Sunday, and caught more northerns than I did bass. Everyone that I have talked to that's fished it so far this year had a tough time, too. The size of the fish in Mosquito seem like they are all just barely legal size. If you can land a 15lb bag you had a good day on this lake.
  12. My favorite is my Daiwa PXL-R on a 6'8" Duckett. I use 8# FC line. I use this set up for zoom finesse worms. Usually unweighted, but will add a 1/16th, or 1/8th tungsten weight - depending on the weather conditions, and depth of water I am am fishing.
  13. Favorite is a hollow body frog. Most effective is a Zoom finesse worm.
  14. Zoom finesse worm on a 1/0 worm hook, 1/16 or 1/8 tungsten weight.
  15. The Jackall Gantarel's are pretty realistic/amazing looking to me.
  16. I generally stick to the GYCB because they make the color that works the best for me (black with a blue tail), but lately I've been using the Mister Twister version (Comida) in the green pumpkin with blue flake. So far I am really happy with them. The action seems to be there, and the price is just under $5 a pack.
  17. Stopped by the local Ollie's store and they just got in a new supply of Zoom plastics for $1.99/bag. All good stuff like finesse worms, lizards, u tail worms, flukes, ol monsters, brush hogs, and more. Walked out with 30 bags. They also have Sufix Pro Mix fishing line for $3.99/330 yard spools. Also picked up 2 spools each of 10#,12#,and 14#.
  18. Just fish it how it is. I don't believe it will effect the reels performance that much, and I doubt you'll be able to cast it far enough that you'll run out of line. I have a few reels that I keep "underspooled", and have had/seen no issues whatsoever - one of them being a Tatula.
  19. Cast with the wind to your back.
  20. The SV spool really is amazing!
  21. Are you casting into the wind? Sometimes that thin of a braid can do exactly what you're saying.
  22. They are not bad rods at all. A bit overpriced, but not bad. I really like the 835C JWR I have, and as others have stated the handle is very comfortable.
  23. I use 10# braid and a 6# FC leader. I use a leader length of about 2 feet, and made adjustments accordingly.
