  1. Thanks for all the info, Alex. I did a search at YouTube for "rolling jig bass," because it sounds like a specific technique, but the search just produced videos about swim jigs. Are "rolling" and "swim jigging" the same thing? Never mind. Further research suggests that "rolling" and "slow rolling" are simply dragging a jig on the bottom: "a football jigs pigskin-shaped head allows it to roll over rock and rubble without falling into the cracks." My concern about dragging a jig over the bottom is that the water I fish is so shallow that there's a mat of weeds on the bottom. There are a few ponds where it's nine feet deep and maybe that's enough depth to keep weeds from carpeting the bottom.
  2. Alex, you picked up right where the storm cut you off. What I note is the string of condos/apartments in the third photo. Yours is a heavily developed lake and you're catching bass like you're fishing a lake in northwestern Ontario where no one lives and few fish. I'm guessing if someone were watching you with binoculars from a bedroom window, they might think, "Our lake is full of toads!" And then they'd go out and fish it, catch nothing, and wonder if they were imagining you catching bigguns. I've bought both of ^these.^ The Jackalls (three packages) took a long time to arrive. They might have come from Japan. Alex, if you don't mind, please post a close-up of the jighead in the Jackall. I want to rig mine now, even though I'm far from casting one.
  3. Regarding Rosie, anything for Em, Dad, anything for Em. 💓
  4. Me too. I catch a lot of bass long-lining a lure behind my canoe.
  5. Chunky bass, @ATA! What's the lure?
  6. Regarding Rosy, if it makes Em smile, Dad, then all is well.
  7. Seeing those skulls on that beautiful dock would break my heart. I sure hope you can trap that otter. I only fished the bog nearest to me twice in 2024. The first time, I had six otters alongside my canoe. The next time, I caught about six bass in a bog that's good for 30+ bass. I've wondered ever since if those six otters weren't emptying that pond. Bob, it looks like Maine there!
  8. I've launched when it's in the thirties, but I wouldn't do the twenties for fear of tipping. 15 degrees, @Bazoo? I have one word for you:
  9. I think the shoal survived. As I understand it, the coagulants in the blood of bass need water to work. So, it will bleed out of water, but stop once released. Beautiful bass!
  10. @OmegaDPW: Please tell your son, "Sweet smile for a sweet fish!" Also tell him, "Big head on that bass!"
  11. The BR article about catching bass in cold, deep water has me wishing that I could just cruise like @A-Jay does and see what's down there. I think that would be fun. I won't do it because I don't have the platform for it, but I can see its attraction.
  12. Two new goals: After watching the bass that other BR anglers catch in cold water, I plan to start fishing sooner this year and stop fishing later. I'll just hug the shorelines to stay safe.
  13. 7' 2" MH fast action spinning rod with a 2500 Shimano reel tossing a popper, Senko, Plopper, or underspin with 30 lb. braid.
  14. I love when Pops catches bass. And you know how much I love those 19-inchers too.
  15. Thanks for the advice, @looking45. You might be right. I don't know. I'm just doing what the Honda dealer told me to do, which I'm guessing Honda told him to say. I'm thinking it's good for the engine to run every three weeks, just like it's good for a car engine to run regularly. Tom, I do add Sta-Bil. And even though I'm supposed to run the generator for 20 to 30 minutes, I'm sometimes forget it's running. It's the quiet model and it's big and burns down the gas when I forget.
  16. Well, he might be the king fisher, but after your recent streak, you are the prince, my friend.
  17. Bonneville Dam on the Columbia lets you watch the salmon bypass the dam through a tube. I was squealing with joy when I watched them pass. I think I'd be so overjoyed when I watched those big bass pass below the bank that I'd jump in after them!
  18. We lose power several times a year. We bought a Honda generator about 1.5 years ago, but have yet to use it, other than starting it every three weeks to keep its battery charged. Our house holds heat quite well and we've lanterns and a battery-powered radio for light and music. Thanks for thinking of us, Tom!
  19. No one catches as consistently as you do, Woody, on luck.
  20. A black beauty, Alex!
  21. Gosh, this sounds like me. Now I'm wondering if I'm a junker too. A sneaky junker. Ahhhhhhh!
  22. So true! I'm surprised no one has labeled themselves at a TV Watcher or something similar, i.e. someone who watches an FFS screen to fish.
  23. Given your last streak, I think you have eagle eyes.
