What is your drink?
LOL FOM, here's the scoop on the salamander poop. I have a pipe with a brass screen filter inserted into the rocks where the spring originates from the mountain. The water is obtained before there is any contamination from salamander poop or Darter goop. 8-)

What is your drink?
Although I'm partial to Jonnnie Walker Black Label 12 yr old scotch, my choice would have to be my own natural spring water. When you sip this almost ice cold spring water, the word PURE takes on a new meaning. It's from a very small spring that comes out of the base of a mountain on 30 acres of land we own in the Poconos. Several species of Darters and salamanders, listed in PA as endangered and threatened because the can only tolerate the purest of water, live in the spring and only 1/10th mile downstream of where the spring enters Hunters Creek.

What are your fears or phobias?
Muddy, you can easily figure it out. I arranged access in the garage around the theory of the Texas Two Step. Follow these instructions and you'll never get lost in there again First, step forward quickly with your left foot. Then step forward quickly with your right foot. Then step forward again with your left foot, but slowly. Then a short Pause. Then step forward slowly with your right foot. Pause again and then pull your left foot even with your right. Repeat until out the door. See, simple!

NEED NOMINATIONS FOR MOOK OF THE YEAR
Well I guess that takes a whole lot of people out of the running. As I understand it from someone at Lake Fork, Your father got around.

What are your fears or phobias?
Heights (where there is a possibility of falling off). Running into my wife in a bad mood, before I can get the bags into the garage, upon returning home from one of Cabela's super secret sales.

Scumbag Coaches
Not a scumbag at all, but a shocker for some Lou Holtz Head coach of the New York Jets in 1976. He resigned with one game remaining in the season after going 3-10; less than one year into his five-year contract.

Global Warming?
Alpster, but I bet Al Gore's Carbon Footprint is still bigger than your Carbon Footprint. And Muddy makes some very good points. Absolutely, we should keep promoting efforts to keep our air, water and other natural resources clean and healthy. But to devastate our economy doing things that will have little to no effect on global conditions, based essentially on junk science, just doesn't make sense.

Global Warming?
My 11 year old daughter was very upset the other evening. She said a teacher of hers told her Global Warming is destroying the earth, and that it's our fault this is happening because of CO2. She said her teacher told her millions will die unless we change our ways, and we do something about it immediately. Well, I controlled my temper, and told her there were differing opinions on this subject. For the teacher to say this, it means her teacher has closed his mind to science. I also told her that yes the earth is warming, but that the earth warms and cools over time. It has happened before and it will happen again. I told her next time that her teacher talks about global warming, ask him about the fact that NASA has revealed since 2005 that the ice caps on Mars's south pole have also been shrinking. That fact makes some scientists think that the current global warming might be caused by changes in the sun, and not humans. I also told her some scientists believe we are on the tail end of the global warming period and global cooling will soon start. (That is unless Roadwarrior has been shipping his chili to the Martians). Finally, I told her I bet many of the same people who are steadfast in their stance that global warming is the fault of humans, are many of the same people who in the 1970's were telling us that humans were the cause of the global cooling which would destroy the earth by sending us into another ice age. I told her there is no definite answer to what is happening, and that is why we need to keep learning about science, and not close our minds to ANY of the facts. She felt better after our discussion. I respect teachers, but have little respect for those who use fear against children to advance their own agendas.

About to start a rebuild on a 13 ft Aluminum Vee
Muddy, I think you're looking at a pretty massive job. If it were me, before starting such a project, I would consider the following. Is it the size boat I want for the next couple of years? How much could I get for my current boat if I sold it? How much in materials will it cost me to fix it up? How much in added extras (like seats, etc.) will I be putting into the boat? How much time will it take to do the fix up? Lets say I could get $200 for the boat. And lets say it will be another $300 in materials and extras to get it fixed up to what you want. I also think the project will take a minimum of 10 hours labor. I would then look at what's out there in the same total price range in craigslist and local newspapers. So if I could get a boat something like the link below for $600 will all the extras, I would probably go the "sell and purchase" route before starting that big of a project. But that's just me. Not saying you shouldn't go through with the project, just saying look at other alternatives. http://newjersey.craigslist.org/boa/504115858.html

Will the Jets beat the Patriots?
As a Jets fan, I really think the Jets will beat up on the Pats. Not only beat them, but crush them horribly! How do I know this... just saw a pig fly by the office window.

spring bass
Don't know about Michigan, but I fish some lakes in the Poconos and northern NJ in March when the water temp is in the mid 40's. My goto bait for cold water bass is a suspending jerkbait worked very slowly, and letting it sit for a while between motions seems to be key. Also, thanks for your service, and stay safe over there!!!

My Solemn Oath
I guess I'm pretty guilty of this, or you might say I elicit egregious ellipsis. But the question is, it more ANNOYING than alliteration?

My core review
When it comes to high-end Shimanos, grading consists of the four "D's": Design, Drag, Dependability, and Debt.

My Solemn Oath
Mike does make some good points... I also would like to be able to understand what I'm reading. And if Teeners have their own board on this site, why not have a Crotchety Corner? Our tag line would be Don't trust anyone under 40. Glenn could open up a whole new band of advertisers Geritol, V i a g r a, Depends, and Russian Brides.

B.A.S.S. sticks it to the kids-Bigtime
Matt, some interesting counter points you make. And I agree with you that BASS should have fulfilled their commitments this year, and outlined the changes for next year so people could decide what they want to do. But to use the basis of your argument the Federation didn't come up with the Pro events run by BASS. But it is the free volunteer work BASS gets from the Federation members that makes the Pro events successful, and some might even argue possible. So would it be also fair if now the Federation demanded to be paid for their services at the events going forward? And what do you think these events would start to look like, and pay out, if there were no Federation volunteers providing their services for free? It surprises me that Ray Scott has been mostly quiet on these matters that diminish the once great organization he founded. And it saddens me to think this remarkable man's legacy might be tarnished in the realm of public opinion that he became a sell-out in his golden years.

Broken Fin Fishing Fools
Papa, I will keep your daughter in my thoughts. I'm being treated for prostrate cancer myself. Cancer is a scary thing, especially when you have young children. Sometimes just knowing you are in the thoughts and prayers of others helps you to deal with everything that's going on in your body and mind.

A message to all NON smokers
Did you know that the costs on our health care system is the same for obesity as it is for smoking. Hmmmm... and why don't we see a FAT TAX, as we do a cigarette tax, to offset the health care costs? Can you say P.C.!

NORTHEAST PA FISHING EXPO
I've been to several of these EXPO's over the years. I've found it wise to first look at the list of exhibitors on the websites before considering (unless you are also into hunting). Fishing guests at this expo, Doug Strtickland with the hawg tank, Marcia Rubin, and Herb Bloxsom sound good, but this one has relatively few fishing exhibitors: Dallas Sporting Goods, PFBC--NE Region, TeamBass USA/Sportman Connection, Towne Marine, and of course the Captains with their fishing excursions.

Spanking our children
I agree with the statements that punishment must be tailored to what works with each individual child and should never be abusive. I've been lucky in that I've very seldom had to use spanking as punishment on my children, and my kids are good and respectful. As a matter of fact, more often than not a spanking was used to equate a particular action to a resulting danger, such as the child reaching for the burner on the stove. My dilemma has always been having to figure out just the right amount of spank as to not have it appear as a joke to the child. Off subject, but there are a couple of things I have found out about children: If you have trouble getting your children's attention, just sit down and look comfortable. Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually repeat word for word what you shouldn't have said. You can learn many things from children. How much patience you have, for instance.

Lunkerville TV
Lunkerville got 2 votes from me (one from home and one from work). My favorite show was when the host pulled that beauty from the lake in Central Park, NYC.
