I should have never doubted this group. Those 1" table caps worked perfectly! Best $1.25 I spent! .50 for the cap (4 for $2) .75 in the cap Balances out nicely!

Unlike the others I can't afford a new rig for this thing so I picked an Alabama Rig which would work with something I already have. For my 7' MH Baitcaster I throw both the 5 Wire and 3 Wire Flash Mob Jr. I use 20lb Seaguar Abrazx Fluorocarbon. No luck catching anything yet. I plan to devote a good amount of time to it this year though. Should be fun!

I have a spot that I have to crawl into. It always seems to hold a few good bass but the type of contorted cast I have to make from sure makes for some interesting moments hanging up in trees and stuff. So much fun to fish like this sometimes though. One time at this spot I tried to skip it under one set of branches. On the cast I nicked something behind me and my lure ended up over this brush overhanging the water. I thought I was stuck and I began tugging at my line. When I felt it fight back I realized I caught a fish up and over this bush. It wasn't a lunker but it made for quite the catch. I did land it. I don't know how it didn't get hung up but I got it through that crap. Fun times.

Spinnerbaits is my #1 "Search Bait". I can search various depths with one lure just by varying the retrieve. Burn for the top, countdown and slow retrieve for the middle and let it sink and slow roll it to cover the bottom. Crankbaits - In particular Lipless Crankbaits can cover the various depths as well but not as fast as a spinnerbait. Squarebills are more situational etc. Chatterbaits are a great in between as someone else mentioned.

d**n ... I have a 7' rod which I felt was too tip heavy and I was going to replace it with a new, lighter Veritas rod as the solution to the problem. I guess I will take the trip to home depot instead.

There is a new one opening up less than 90 minutes from my house. Before that it was 3 hours to any BPS near me.

There seems to be 2 schools of thought here ... 1) Red = Blood, engorged gills. In either case it's visible to other fish and causes a reaction. 2) Red is invisible at certain depths. I thought these were both very contradicting positions on the case. It's either visible or it's not. It turns out both are plausible. Scientific theories assume that under perfect conditions red is visible down to about 33 feet. After that it just looks grey. Most lakes aren't perfect (grass, wind, waves, algae etc.) and reduce that visibility to depths as little as 5-10 feet! That means under most average bass fishing conditions red disappears rather quickly at depths of 8 feet or more. With all that being said ... IMO when it comes to your presentation the hook color is of least importance. Higher in priority is the line, lure, weight and presentation method. When those are right a bass will strike a pink hook! Check out this YouTube videos (Part 1-4). I posted part 1. Follow it to Part 2 and so on.

Shows like the Bass Pro's gives me a bunch of information. Zona's is for entertainment. If I get something from it then fine. The other shows I watch just because it's freakin' cold outside and I can't go fish.

Concentration is easier to do when you can just fish the moment. With baits you have confidence in it's easier to visualize that bite IMO.

I have people on my league who fish one rod, one lure for the entire event. Sometimes it works, other times they die by it. It boggles my mind. What if something different can produce results. Sometimes a confidence baits can be more of a stubborn bait.

Something else I thought of has to do with building confidence. Has this happened to you ... 1) You go out with the intentions on trying a new technique. Drop Shot, Alabama Rig ... whatever. 2) You do your homework ... how to present it, map study etc. 3) You get to your spot. It's perfect. Textbook even. 4) You begin using that lure. You are thinking about everything you are doing. The cast, how fast you are reeling, how deep it is etc. 5) no luck. You are questioning yourself the whole time, what am I doing wrong?, what am I missing? etc. This can go on for hours. Then your brain begins to shut off. I call it surrendering to "Just fishing" and WHAM you get bit. Your confidence gets a jolt and you are able to repeat it a few more times before you are out of the water. All of a sudden you know how to work that bait to get bit. You begin using it more and more and magically you have a new confidence bait/presentation. Don't you just love fishing ... LOL

I am relatively new to this forum and there is one thing that I have seen consistently is honesty. A majority of the posts are honest, sometimes brutally honest but that is life. I did not read one single post here which said not to follow your dream. Instead all I heard was 1) Education 2) Be real about your expectations 3) Never stop having fun fishing If you (Tyler) could get sponsors, have the support of your family and are off the "streets" then I am good as long as you keep #1 - #3 in perspective. If you believe what Rick Clunn has to say he will say that a bass can sense negative energy that you are projecting. With that being said when you fish a lure you are confident in you are more patient, and thus more positive in your efforts. Sweet bass!

I enjoy it. It's different. It definitely makes the classic look archaic. They need to find a way to do events live in order to gain any traction with other sports. In this Twitter/Facebook age watching it a week later seems old.

The Plano 3701's should work for your terminal tackle. It essentially takes the place of one 3700 and is perfect for hooks, weights etc. As for worms I bought a BPS Extreme Bag solely for soft plastics. I started in October of 2011 which up north is like saying I started in May of 2012. :-) Just needed something to do and decided to try it. I only wish I had discovered it a long, long time ago!

This may sound stupid but when you balance your rod are you making sure that it balances even around the reel or where you would hold it?

My first rod was a lightning... it snapped ... Returned it for another and it also snapped. Both got at WalMart. I'm not a big fan. They had Abu's there for a little bit more. I switched to them and now I am a happy camper.
