  1. I am interested in making my own version of this spinnerbait. Does anyone happen to know the size of the blades used on this lure?
  2. I am on a search for a kayak this winter as well. I am eyeing the new Predator 13 by Old Town. I am also considering the Wilderness Systems Ride and the Moken series of kayaks. Before I make my decision I plan to get around to as many canoe places that I can and actually sit in them. You can learn a lot about sitting in one to see if it's going to work for you. Tried it a few times already and have eliminated all sit inside ones as a result.
  3. The large bobber killed me! Quote of the day ... "I'm not a fish licker ..."
  4. I fish from the bank as well as compete in tournaments regularly as a co-angler. While there are some differences I don't think there are enough to warrant a separate forum.
  5. Didn't get down the thread before I saw this ... I say it depends on how big you are. At 325 I might need a little more than 80lb. HA!
  6. The big debate then would be what # test do you use.
  7. Of course it is ... it's about everything fishing. Look at the main page of the forum and we provide a huge opportunity to discuss anything related to the fishing industry. That includes a whole lot more than dropping a lure in the water. Like everything else there are other aspects of the sport. I for one am happy to see a topic like this. Interesting discussion about the industry. Will it catch more fish ... no. It sure helps me relate to my fellow fisherman by getting to understand their opinions on a somewhat controversial subject.
  8. It's not just sex ... Try explaining to your casual fishing friends that you are catching bass on a "Spook". I don't care how long that name has been in existence it's still quite offensive to a lot of people. I feel very uncomfortable with that term so I refer to them as "Walk the dog" baits.
  9. Around my area I have been skunked a few times already. Last weekend I had the chance to head to a private lake in PA and was able to get into some nice fish on one day. On that same lake it got windy and colder overnight and as a result was skunked on day 2. If this lake doesn't produce then it's OVER. Sucks but that's the way it is up north.
  10. I am definitely in touch with Cadman. I should be placing an order soon. The winter just started and I am trying to get my last few weekends of fishing in where I can. Once I am completely stuck at home I intend to dedicate some quality time for this.
  11. Thanks ... I have dabbled in the skirt making already which is why I up'd my game to painting the jigs. I unfortunately can't really do the lead thing because I have no safe place to do that really. It's the reason I stopped pouring my plastics. With 4 kids around I didn't want to poison them to death. LOL
  12. I have that planned for one of these weekends. Just had to dabble with what I had.
  13. Makes sense to me. Need to give that a try.
  14. Depends on what you like to do ... if this is your only rod then my next purchase would be a spinning rod for finesse applications. 7' MF would be my suggestion.
  15. Wow! Rest brother ... those hawgs will be there waiting for you when you are better. nice fish though! Very nice.
  16. Thanks cadman ... I plan on getting a bunch of unpainted jigs, skirts and some powder paint and having a field day coming up with unique combinations. Should be fun. Good tip on the paint stripper. I was wondering about that too.
  17. Rick eliminated two threats with one decision. The pigs and the zombies crashing the gate. Rick is done being a farmer. Next episode the hat comes back on. queue the song "Won't Get Fooled Again" by The Who
  18. I went to Harbor Freight and picked up a tub of their matte black. I wanted to dabble with this whole painting jigs with scraps I had leftover from the season. I took all my ball jigs and decided to paint them. Some of them had a place for skirts so I took some leftover skirt material and made them into mini finesse jigs. Throw a grub or 3 inch craw and you are good to go! Some lessons learned 1 - Getting the right amount of heat takes practice. Glad I did it on these scraps before I tried them on better jigs. After time you get the timing down. 2 - Knock off excess as hard and fast as you can. In going too slow I ended up with some bumps in my jig heads. Remedied when I began tapping them pretty aggressively against the paint container to get the excess powder off. 3 - Take the excess out of the eyes BEFORE curing them. They are a PIA to take off once cured. 4 - This is addicting. Some little kinks to work out but I don't think the fish will mind. I know what I am getting for Christmas

Beat me to the punch. Great for swim jig!

Can't go wrong with a white swimbait of some sort. Reaction Innovations little dipper or skinny dipper will word. The Havoc subwoofer would work too. The Havoc beat shad if it's a finesse (smaller) swimjig.
  21. LOL. Awesome sound. The look on her face was priceless.
