  1. I'm sure the longer rods would be great for launching top water baits... but to be honest I personally can't work them as well with a rod much longer that 7,3. And while I have thrown plopped 190s on a 7'6 heavy rod , I can throw it farther than I can see it. Lol my vision is getting worse... I'll take a slightly shorter cast have the ability to see it and work it. that's just my preference. That's why I said the megabass rod with a zillion reel. Still high end, but cheaper than a CONQUEST combo
  2. Megabass OneTen Sepcial, and pair in up with a Zillion Sv TW. Or any of the high end shimanos. If you throw the light ones, the aldebaran will be amazing,... but the zillion cost a good bit less and is a d**n good reel Only reason I like ouck the Jerkbait rod over ottoman, is I like that ita shorter. But you can go either way
  3. The lews tournament pro. They can be found for 139. At sportsmans outfitters. Maybe the daiwa ct.
  4. You can.... but to optimize every thing bassfisherman do, I should have at least 1 or 2 spinning outfits
  5. I refuse to play this game. If I could reduce it to 6, I wouldn't have ten's of thousands in fishing stuff
  6. Great video. On another note do y'all still the road trip
  7. He meant to say a 6:1 gear ratio reel You can buy different sets of gears and change it to what you want to get the desired IPT. Inches of line gathered per turn of the handle on the reel.
  8. The lighter the better, but consider your cover. There had been many times that I have just picked up a spinning rod with 8 lb line because the current was calm and cover was light... if I'm going under docks I like at least 10lb, I've thrown them weightles on 15lb floor on casting gear... that's quite frequent actualy.... especially under docks and around brush. I've been known to flip them to holes in matted grass on 50 or 65 lb braid. Adapt your line as light as you can go reasonably but don't be afraid to throw it on heavy line if the cover and conditions call for it... the action is amazing on 8 lb line and spinningnrod tho
  9. The past few years, I have taken a deep dive down the jerk bait rabbit hole... I'm a surprised I have not bought more jerk bait rods, but the rods I use for the work great... year round I have at least one tied on, and I feel confident in them. This time of year, i like the DDs. Like another poster said, if you commit to them you can kinda figure out what works when, with that said, I used very few floating jerks, most of mine are suspending. I have a few sinking, but I dont use them, just because I'm good with the others. I love a jig and fishing shallow, and I've learned that a jerkbait, a jig and a spinner bait are all you need to fish year round successfully. Please don't tell my worms, rattle traps, and sqaurebils...they will get jealous.
  10. I like slow walking one too! It's a good trick.. I just find my self more and more, using a quick retrieve...
  11. By making more casts..or trying different techniques, different areas or trying new mod to old techniques.... sometimes, if its not too hot, I'll go burn some gas and mark areas
  12. Maybe it's because I tend to fish heavier spinnerbaits... idk. But I tend to fish them Fast on purpose... almost all my retrievers have sped up a bit...I dont give the fish a chance to notice that the lure is a fake. I like fishing a compact and heavy spinner bait, burn it, but keep it at a desired depth. I love a jig, pitching and skipping BUT spinner baits have been my most productive bait the last 10 years...hands down I use a 6.5:1 on sb
  13. Oh I imagine it is a hard sell... but for the guys that make their own jigs and their own skirts for spinners/chatters/swim jigs... it would be fairly easy to do. Got me wanting one now
  14. I've never thrown that combo on a jig, but I love that combo on a crank bait. Sounds like it would be good on a swim jig or vibrating jig
  15. I use j braid too. I use 50 lb and 65 lb. I rarely have dig ins, only after hard hook set but it comes out easily. You can try going up in size to 40 or 50. That normally helps most people. Or try a coated braid like super slick 8 or suffix 832. Stay away from spider wire. There's a reason its 10 bucks.
  16. Either 6:1 or a 7:1. I use alot of heavier compact spinner baits. I like a 1/2 bait in a 3/8 or 1/4 size.
  17. I dont know what you do for a living, but you should come to a few Rca (root cause analysis " meetings with me. That was a pretty good break down.
  18. I can't call it off hand but there some 1/4 and 3/8 oz frogs out there... I had a few of the small frogs that were supposed to be 3/8 but actually weighed in at 5/16 on my digital scales.
  19. Some of the mid range - high end heavy action rods that were meant for FROG fishing have soft tip sections that load up easily but still have a slot power in the lower section and tips are Fast enough that it gets right to butt section.
  20. I have a Dx744. Excellent rod for 3/8 - 1/2 oz jigs and heavy t RIGS.
  21. Shad spawn in one of my favorite times... I'm not a tourney fisherman, but I think I would excell in the fall... its moving bait time for me... the fish get scattered a bit but you can cover water quickly and go back to shallow and medium depths. Lipless, square Bill's, spinnerbaits, and soft swimmers are my best friends in the fall....and dont forget you can still catch them on a spook type bait. Easy to pattern them on the shad.
  22. That's a great analogy
  23. I try not to buy too many 20 dollar baits lol. I throw to the snag stuff too much. Losing JIGS, tungsten and hooks is apart of the game. I just try to limit how much I spend on megabass, luckycraft, ect,
  24. I throw them on few different rods, depending on what I already have rigged and depending on cover. Powell 723 7'2 MH xf Zillion 6,6 M xf Powell 712 7'1 med fast spinning I put them on a c rig and a split shot rig alot too Heck recently I was flipping a weightless Yamamoto seiko in to thick hydrilla with a 7'6 heavy. Not ideal, but it caught the fish that day.
  25. Put muffs on and let it run with water. It doesn't hurt it as long as there's water running.
