  1. Both rods will be good, I think. My consideration would be the 55lb braid. When I throw them alot in the winter, I use a Powell 714 with 12 lb sniper.
  2. No. Eyes dont matter to me. I have some repaints that dont even have eyes..
  3. I would use braid.
  4. Man you was wearing that spot out. Good fishing buddy. I agree, your line held up its end of the bargain that day. You put on a a dang clinic of how to fish a jig. Lmao at the rodeo boat flip fish. I thought that fish was gonna hit the camera.
  5. Lol it's ok I have Gaston maps lol
  6. Sam said Gaston.... I have Gaston maps. No chesdin maps. But if if dont mind driving 1.5 hrs. Gaston is a good lake to fish. Holler any time you want and I'll take u or we can kayak fish.... just got a kayak last month
  7. Strike detection has taken me a life time to learn. It all begins with all of the senses combined... but yes at night you are limited and subconsciously given up on sight and depending on feel alone. Now there is a difference in a Shakespeare rod and middle of the road daiwa or shimano, but time on the water and correct matching of gear has been the game changer for me and has helped me teach my son... I plan to but a loomis and some megabass stuff, but I already know that it will not replace time on the water and keen since of feel, and good fishing sense..like counting down a jig, noticing when I should be on bottom but I feel mush...hookset! Like knowing the difference between pulling it through grass or a bass tapping on me Strike detection can't be taught, but it can be learned. But it takes time...and patience
  8. I may have some Lakr Gaston maps, I can mail you someone if needed. I believe I have some for kerr/buggs island as well.

Awesome man! I just laid to rest my Belgian Malinois of 14 years.
  10. Thanks, if I get some time I'll call some of the places and see when they expect to have more... I wouldn't mind upgrading a rod or two to loomis or something.. I have a couple mega bass I'm looking at too. Will probably have an overhaul by start of next spring. Probably be a good mix of Dobyns, loomis, megabass and daiwa a d maybe some of my existing powell rods.. I dont know, will probably selling rods in december Will start with rods first. And will sprinkle in new reels as I can. I'm super impressed with my new zillion tw sv.
  11. I haven't seen any available.. I was kinda looking around at them too. But I can't ever find the rods I want available.
  12. Skipping a jig with a compact trailer, under docks, or under over hanging brush And throwing a fasting bait.. spinnerbaits/2.5 size square Bill's and 3 inch rattle traps. Those are my go tos through out the year.
  13. Sounds like you are flipping like I do. I dont flip a jig as a dead stick technique. I flip it or pitch it out, get through the cover, hop it, and then reel back and do it over. It is a bottom technique, but even though you spend more time hopping than sitting, d oesn't change things... u are still relating what you feel to bottom content. Maybe should be called a bottom hopping technique. Sounds like you are on right track. They say nrx is most sensitive out there... I dont disagree, I just dont have one. My DX 744 is touchy as hell..
  14. Double unit or blood knot. I can lay line down on my lap and do that knot blind folded...and it holds up.
  15. I think what you have is fine... but it's the cover and structure that you fish will determine what is good. Do I think that you can pull off ALL techniques and situations with that...no. but you will good to for Alot of things with that. I use alot 50#braid with leaders of 12 to 16 lb floor I use floro from 12-17 lb on casting setups I have a couple casting rods with 8 or 10 lb big game I have 8lb big game on spinning rods My frog rod and my flipping stick have 65 lb braid My braid is daiwa j braid I use sunline sniper and sunline assassin floro. I like your set up for most applications. Nothing wrong with that as long as you aren't in really thick cover. Indef think you are the right track, remember the lighter the better always go as light as you can get away with but dont afraid to beef up sometimes. All that said, is personally I'd beef the braid up to 40 lb and use leaders as you can from 10 to 16. That will cover most things. If you have a spinning rod that you can do light line presentations with then that would be a great 1,2 punch
  16. Nice fish!
  17. Depends on the cover. I do well with a jig but if it's super thick, I go t rig. There are days when jig isn't working, I'll try a t rig and it work.. it's not as bulky. Just be sure that the rod/reel/line and hook are compatible. It will save you from broken rods and lost fish and lost gear.
  18. ML or M with a fast action for spinning rods for bass. Anything heavier and I'll use casting gear. It really is that simple.
  19. I'm also a big fan of the translucent colors for JERKBAITS and top waters.
  20. I dont have a SPECIFIC rod just for swim jigs, but I can stand on both sides of the arguement either go with what you would use for a spinner bait rod, or a jig/worm rod. DX 744 Powell 723 Tatula 6'10 MH Tatula 7'1 H Powell 714 is probably what see most swing jigs
  21. Siebert outdoors - Northstar custom baits Both company's have great hand made jigs, spinner baits and northstar makes excellent hybrid hair jigs.
  22. Man I have a love hate relationship with that stuff. It's a pure pain in the butt. My main compartment still smells like garlic from a spill 6 years ago.
  23. @slonezp send me the recipe. Seriously. Hit me up.
  24. Sexy shad or baby bass
