  1. A teenage kid in DSG with his mom looking for stuff they are both confused about is probably pretty awkward for both of them. I would have went along with them. Everybody had good insight, but i really liked what Snook said. And you dont know a good feeling until you teach him something and it pays off. I spent several years training new police officers. At first i didnt like it because having a trainee in the car slowed me down from doing the work i wanted to do and i was investing more of my personal time, effort, and sometimes money to make sure these guys were ready at the end of each of thems 14 weeks. I didnt always put my best foot forward or do my best with it at first. But after a while i really saw the fruits of my labor and saw that i was producing some fine officers. It then became more about how to help each trainee get better. I then spent more time on and off duty prepping the recruit from mind set to equipment. As for equipment, im sure your on a tight budget. And your are right to deal with his mother. I promise you tho, if you do this full bore and remain selfless you will not regret it, you may even make/mold your future fishing partner.
  2. When im in a slump or my confidence is really low and i just can not figure out what im doing wrong or why im not catchin many, theres a few "good" ponds that i go to. I dont think its cheating, fishing is about having fun. Pond fishing is a good way for me slow down, work on technique and build my confidence backup before i hit the lake again. Besides its not like the fish are jumping in your lap, you are still making a presentation. That being said, not all ponds are created equal. Sounds like you picked the right pond on the right day! Good job on a Good day of fishing! That bass is a chunk!!
  3. 30lb braid - 65 Braid. I use 50 on my frog/heavy tw rod. Ill throw the soft plastic toads on a MH rod with 30 as long as the cover isnt super thick. If it is thick, then ill use the frog rod with 50
  4. I did!! Thags exactly how he got one!!! I use it ALOT.
  5. Id like to know the how many rods that one of the E21 sponsored pros break. Modest weekend worriors are breaking these rods left and right. Just think how many rods break for guys that fish 280+ days a year. I bet its alot. You would probably have a hard time getting them to tell you that.
  6. My wife wanted one too! She like the look of it, i said OH NO!
  7. I agree with almost everything said about it so far. Its clear you can fish competitively, but what do you do outside of fishing? College or work? Is it relevant? Are you working as a salesman or in marketing. (Just an example of a field of work that can be in your favor) Do have any experience in being sponsored or representing a company or promoting their products? What can you do to help the sponsor? a thousand other accomplished fishermen are probably asking for sponsorship also. So what sets youand apart? These companies probably "file 13" dozens of sponsorship request daily. Set yourself apart but be honest, punctual and brief. Three parts that of the resume that turned me off immediatly was the name dropping and the facebook thing. The first thing that popped into my mind was "grow up" i do not say this to be mean, i certainly think you,ve got something to work with. The third part that was a turn off was, doing a "double resume" by using your partner. The first thing that came to mind was the movie "Step Brothers" when Will Ferrel and John Riley did several job interviews as a team. Keep working at this resume and post up here again. I wish you all the luck in the world. Just remember, SET YOURSELF APART.
  8. Sweet!! Nice catch!
  9. Welcome!
  10. Welcome, from the other side of the state. Read the articles, stay within your budget and keep an open mind. Good luck.

    I hope you heal quickly.
  12. It wwould do well with A rigs, big swim baits,... if i got one (which i didnt even NEED the one i just got) it would be a 7:1 for jigs and pitchin. Yours will do well for cranks, but as i get older and smarter ive found that anything im going to be making alot of long casts with needs centrifigul or dual brakes...it makes life so much easier and is not as finicky as mag brakes. But i have the reg speed spool reel with mag brakes and while it is a finicky, once you take the time and about a dozen casts and dial it in, its is awesome. Clean and service it when you get it, the last several Lews reels i got, were over lubed and greased when i got them (new). Once i cleaned and relubed and greased them, i was able to get alot more distance and smoothness.
  13. I try to buy usa when i can from varoius house hold items to fishing equipment. I also try to shop locally owned shores when i can, but i do value Quality products. I like that Powell is an american owned company and do not mind that their rods are made over seas. I feel like i get a good value for those rods. QUALITY is a big deal to me and it is my HARD EARNED money that buys it. Id rather buy something once than several times. Im not sure about the ownership of Lews but i know their reels are made in Asia. But the value for the reels is great so i go for them. I hope one day im at a point financially able to buy the highend St. Croix or Loomis rods and more tackle that is all made in USA. I didnt want to post this and come off as a sell out ...because i do realize the value of buying American made products and supporting industry in our country. And after reading alot of the names that are USA im glad i own of a few of those products.
  14. WOW, I need to shop from your source. Good buy, i just wish that the super duty had a centrifigul brake or dual instead of the MCS.
  15. Ok!! Good to know! Alot of officers here agree that being tazed is AWFUL and it hurts really bad but would rather be tazed than sprayed, because the pain in tazer only last for five seconds or until its over, but peper spray hurts and lingers for an hour or so and then shows up again when you shower. Good to know that the THIN BLUE LINE is strong on BR
  16. Most lakes in NC have Largemouth, and i cant think of any lakes here that have restriction regarding consumption of fish as far as health concerns. Agree with Slone, "interesting first post"......
  17. I was on the ground fighting with a "badguy" and another officer pulled up and attempted to shoot the bad guy, one probe went in the bad guy and one into me, we both took the entire ride. The officer swears he yelled out tazer,tazer,tazer....i never heard him... i wasnt too mad at him, the bad guy was starting to get the better of me... (a word of wisdom to yall officers, dont go in alone like john wayne if you dont have to) Thats my brief tazer story, been tazed in ever tazer class i took, (4) i didnt have to, but somone had to be the guinea pig.
  18. Ive done that before, but it was on a dry taze, no cartridge.. thats what iget for jawjacking while doing an arch test.
  19. Before i comment, i gotta ask.... Have you been tazed or sprayed before I have...a few times, by the Tazer X26 and one of the older models. I dont know what unit or what type of unit the writer was talking about so ive been hesitant to respond to it. Ive also been sprayed, once as training excercise and other times on accident or as we a call it "casualty of situation" Neither feels very good.
  20. A lifetime warranty or over the counter exchange warranty like shimano has is really worth the extra money for the rod. Im glad i havent broken a powell rod because it would cost 60 bucks to replace it through warranty. But i look at it as money saved over the counter and paid when needed. Youve gotta think that warranty is factored into price and it is worth it. When i was younger i was stingy and did want to spend the extra money, but now i see that companies like Abu, Shimano, St. Croix, Loomis, and more that i cant think of, are definitley worth it. A company that back their product is priceless. I wouldnt hesitate to buy from any of those companies.
  21. SILLY KIDS, CARROTS ARE FOR RABBITS.
  22. Dude...stick with it.
  23. Finally gone for broke and bought a Lew's Team Lews Pro reel in 6.4:1. Got it for 239...60 bucks less than retail. Ordered it monday, it should be to the house either sat or monday i hope. I hope it lives up to the hype.
  24. I have a few flipping rods, Powell 765,Powell 7105, and a Castaway Skeleton 7'6H and over christmas i bought the 7'7"H Cumara when it was on sale for 100bucks. All of them are capable of punching nasty stuff and hauling out 4lbs of fish and 10lbs of weeds. But as far as the parabolic action, only the Castaway has a really good parabolic action. My castaway is now myy a rig/swimbait rod. BUT ALL OF THOSE RODS ARE BEASTS.
  25. Veritas, light but breakage issues ***, is all the rave right now Daiwa Ballistic, yes it red, but they are fairly light and are one sale for 79 at TW. I have a ballistic deep crankin rod and i like it.
