  1. Thanks fellas, not really my PB (though it's only 5lb6oz) but it's certainly the new personal best out of the river. the real PB came from the lake.
  2. thanks for that reply man, that's about where i seem to be now.... trying to rig one up myself. Although, i did see a gun rack that was made for the slide trax system that looked like it would work nicely, but it was like $60 so a little steep for me....
  3. my question is why'd they have to shoot the croc after the fact? was the croc really the one to blame for somebody entering into his territory? trust me guys, i'm not the environmentalist type, but really wondering what good that did anybody? is it to make the next person feel safer about entering the water?
  4. Anyone have anything on a paddle keeper for the wilderness slide trax system? looked for one pretty hard, but no luck so far. Rather not drill any holes I don't absolutely need to. Also, really to anyone fishing standing up, what is your method for keeping you paddle handy yet contained? Really love to hear any suggestions you have! Thanks!
  5. Buddy of mine pointed me to a new put in on the chattahoochee up above the Morgan Falls Dam. Went out there this past weekend just cruising around checking it out and fishing a little along the way. Rolled up on this awesome stalking spot for fish. Two inlets from some backwater creeks came together right in a big outer bend of the river with minimal current. In this same spot was a ton of old brush piles and stumps just littering the bank. Tossed a Siebert Dredge Brush in blue craw (shameless sponsor plug) with a Damiki Air Craw Watermelon Candy trailer covered in Megastrike (shameless sponsor plug) to the opening between a stump and smaller brush pile and SLAMMMMMMM off goes the line to the side.... being that I was standing up fishing from my new Wilderness Ride 135 kayak I was able to get the right torque for the hook set and then the dredge jig hook did the work for me keeping the fish on..... get the fish in the yak, realizing it's a river beast I throw it on the scales and at 4lb2oz it is now my biggest river bass to date! The pic doesn't do it justice, but after measuring, weighing and snapping the pic I just wanted it back in the water as quickly as possible so it's the only pic i took. 21.25" and 4lb2oz
  6. HOLY **** literally in order of the first 3 posts are my top movies in that very order 1. tombstone (all time favorite - no comparison PLUS i was a wyatt earp fanatic as a kid, did my senior research project on him) 2. casino (have watched it so many times it's ridiculous, but could literally start it up right now if work would let me) 3. heat (perhaps the heaviest hitting cast in a movie and the movie is phenomenal)
  7. haha... he sniffs a couple times and that's it.... he doesn't pay much attention to them anymore. but when he's ready to hit the bank for a bathroom break, he'll jump off no matter where we are!
  8. any of these ponds have little creeks or streams that feed in? would be around them where the oxygen levels are a little higher, often times in this heat i have a little better luck if i can find a nice drain pipe that puts off some shade for the fish, but with pads they have some shade. i'd be frogging this place like crazy myself, letting the frog rest in the openings/pockets of the pads for a bit before moving it.....
  9. she's not much for fishing herself, but she'll go every now and then..... but the dog, he goes almost every trip....
  10. HAHA almost! we've been together nearly 8 years now so I guess she can tolerate me! Just glad i've got her thinking about new fishing spots for me rather than new items to add to my chore list!
  11. As if I hadn't already had the realization that I have an awesome wife, she stepped it up even further this past week! First she gave me the green light on upgrading the kayak and I was able to pull the trigger on a slightly used Wilderness Systems Ride 135, awesome. Then on my birthday last week I open up the bag to find a small Daiwa box with a new Tatula Type R! Now I must admit though I intend on returning the reel and actually putting that towards a new Lowrance 4x HDI for the new yak, which she of course was cool with since she's great. In fact keeping the reel only forced the monkey on my back and would obviously require a new rod and down the rabbit hole we go...... Lastly, she calls me last night to say that while riding to her friend's house she passed a nice neighborhood lake that allowed non motorized boats and allowed fishing with no stipulations about being a resident and so forth! I have the wife scoping out new fishing spots for me, now that's when you know you hit the jackpot!!!!
  12. thanks fellas.... certainly feeling like i hit the jackpot on this one!
  13. came with the rudder kit installed, can't wait to put the rudder to the test....
  14. couple pics. very happy with the purchase!
  15. thanks man. i've been looking for quite some time now to upgrade my kayak and this was just too good to pass on!
  16. Awesome report, AGAIN. Not being a saltwater fisher, I like to see and hear about your catches. Keep these reports coming man, phenomenal! oh and i love how the glove is not in frame for the bass, but as soon as you start catching those ugly looking dinosaur beasts, the glove is out!
  17. MS Slammer, displaces a lot of water and easy to fish. you may be surprised the number of fish you will catch on the bigger version (9" I think). you happen to be fishing anywhere around western NC where they're stocking trout? I really like the river2sea S wavers too, easy baits to learn with and not overly expensive for a swimbait (around $16-20)
  18. So excited to get out of work today, words cannot describe! I'm meeting up after work to purchase a "new" slightly used, but new to me, kayak. I'm upgrading from my 10' Ascend FS10 I bought at Bass Pro a couple years ago. I'm going all out to the cadillac model, the Wildnerness Systems Ride 135 with the elevated seat!!!! It has the rudder kit too, excited doesn't even describe right now! Just in time for my birthday on Wednesday!!! I don't think my wife will see much of me this weekend, feel like I may be on the water all day! come on 5 o'clock!!!!!
  19. as with other topwater baits, you really have to let them take it and not force that hook set. are you retrieving it slowly, burning it back or somewhere in the middle?
  20. perhaps i'm missing it, but did you want a spinning or casting set up? If you're trying to get the whole rig for $150 i would think it would be more feasible for a spinning outfit. either way, would still help on the suggestions to know if it's a casting or spinning combo you're looking for.
  21. i use the cheap BPS version. Before that i would load like 5-6 rods in my Toyota camry and then cuss for about 10 minutes at the boat ramp (i fish in the kayak so no rod locker). even though now i have a truck and can transport the rods easier, i still use them. just saving myself that frustration before the day has started is so worth it, leads to a much better day of fishing!
  22. Holy **** man you are a diehard, I love it! Awesome report and I mean awesome, excellent pics and great catches!
  23. Welcome both to the forums and to ATL. I moved from NC last year to the ATL area, still trying to find my way around some fishing holes. This site is a killer resource for information. good luck.
  24. I've considered a kayak tournament or two, but the crowd that i've ran into are for more concerned with the kayak and rigging of said kayak than actually catching a fish. dont' get me wrong, rigging the yak is fun, but i'm trying to fish more than talk about the next thing to attach to a RAM mount.... good thoughts on showing up to the ramp. any idea on where i could find some more information on "opens" in my area? I really appreciate the help and advice.
  25. So I'm thinking about trying my hand in a tournament, but honestly haven't the slightest clue where to start. That said, here are some qualifiers to maybe help get some input. I would be a co-angler as I do not have a boat I am not very competitive (i like competing, but for me winning is not everything) I am not the most "social" person in the world so i'm not certain that a club would be right for me either I love to fish and am obsessed with learning more, but would likely not be a very strong "team" partner to start so an individual type format would likely be best so as not to get any boaters mad..... I would prefer some format where I do not have to fish every week, every tournament, attend every meeting, etc. I know you're probably thinking this guy wants to half-ass around and no boater would want this guy, but it's not like that at all. I just want to get my feet wet without ticking anybody off to see if tournament fishing is even something i like or if i should stick to the friendly fishing on the kayak.... Really appreciate any input/opinions from you guys.
