  1. Hi all, Its been awhile since I posted (I know slacking!), I been reading your guys information still. I had a question about two different rods from two different companies. Tomorrow, I'm going to BPS Fishing Classic Sale (Excited), I know I'm like a kid in the candy store. I narrowed my selection down to two rods I want for throwing crankbaits from 1/2 oz to 3/4 oz. I'll be pairing this rod up with the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier (can't beat the price at $49.99). I searched the forums to find an answer before I made a post but was unsuccessful. The two rods are Bass Pro Shops Crankin Stick ($80), or St. Croix Mojo Bass (graphite, $130). I want the rod to have some power (Medium Heavy 7 ft), and sensitivity. I know the Crankin Stick has glass and graphite mixed. I know St. Croix are known for sensitivity. I'll test the reel onto these two rods when I go there. I also did some research to find these two rods would be the best based off what I need the rod to do (throw crankbaits). The problem is I'm having a hard time to decide. I'd like to have some other thoughts before I go tomorrow. Which rod would be a better suite for a crankbait rod for power and sensitivity? Thanks all to who reply.
  2. The Bait Monkey (My Wife) told me I was good this last winter, and I was able to splurge on some tackle. A new baitcaster set up, line, a new weigher, and plastics. I did good this spring!

  4. Never thought of that. I'll have to look into this. Would love to have a mgx become a LTX. Thanks for the help appreciated.
  5. I'm sorry for being confusing with my recent post. I said wrong reel, as well as rod. As my revo mgx is a centrifical brake system. I don't have an LTX (Would love one), but I have a Revo SX Low Pro reel. As I stated above it's amazing. I'm sorry for any confusion I caused. Don't get me wrong, my mgx is better quality and can out perform my SX with it's centrifical brake system, BUT I like how the mag brake system you can adjust to your lure's your throwing. Especially, in windy conditions this helps a lot.
  6. Yeah I love these rods too. If BPS ever sold these rods, they would be amazing store. Any rods compare to a dobyns or powell?
  7. I agree. I have a Abu Garcia Revo Mgx. From the first day I've owned it (2 years ago), I've fallen in love with it. The fact it's superlight in your hand a plus. The fact the bearing's make it smooth is amazing. The mag brakes icing on the cake as you explained. Only bad thing is, it costed $349.99 lol. I guess if you have the money to spend at the time, it's worth the buying. I have it paired with a St. Croix legendary xtreme rod, and it's so superlight. To get back to what you said, your exactly right. Mag braking system also helps in the beginning of a cast. The way they have lighter braking making reel light is great. It's a personal preference. I used to like the centrifical braking system, before I bought a mag braking system.
  8. The mag braking system, I like. I wonder how this Aldebaran compares to the mag system?
  9. Looking for a Medium Heavy crank rod around 7" for my new Pflueger Supreme XT Baitcaster (weight 6.53). My goal: -To make this setup light. (My best setup weights 10.6, which is an Abu Garcia Revo Mgx Baitcaster w/ St. Croix Legendary xtreme crank rod). I know I won't get anywhere close to this setup virtually performance wise, but trying to come close in weight without losing performance. -I want the best available sensitive rod for under $150. I love to feel the thumps (all the rocks, and knooks at the bottom of the lake/river floor). -I want 1 pc. rod. -Going to use rod for primarily plastics 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz. I have a few rods in mind I'd love to try. I'm here to find your input on what rod you would compare. Going to buy rod off of BPS. Reason I'm buying off BPS, is they have the 6 months to pay. Therefore, I have to purchase on internet (Only 2 days left for 6 month plan), or I'd go to store and test a few. I also searched archive on this. Like your input as well. Help is appreciated!
  10. I was wondering if there's any boat rental places on Mississippi River near and around Illinois/Iowa. I live in Central Illinois and planning to take father out fishing on Mississippi River in June. I will be renting a flat bottom boat for the day. We will be driving out there for day and coming back home. I live an hour and 15 minutes from Quad Cities or where Interstate 80 goes over Mississippi River. I want a boat rental close to here or anywhere around Iowa/Illinois border of Mississippi River. Thanks your response is appreciated.
  11. Thanks guys ill check it out. I really like Sufix line. I was just trying to save money by going cheaper. Was wondering if this line is as good or close to sufix mono line.
  12. I got flyer ad in mail. They also have it on website now on front page.
  13. x2 on plano spinnerbait 3700 box
  14. Its coming up! I'm going for a phflueger president on sale for 49.99 with reel trade in can get for 39.99. I need a light set up and love this reel own a heavier reel of this. My question is the BPS Monofilament line good to buy? Whats the best Mono line brand? Im looking for strong mono line with a backbone. Will be fishing for smallmouth in rocky rivers.
  15. I see. Yeah its pricey and wanted to know if its worth the buy. How do the bass react to it? Is it just like how they react to a real frog kicking?
  16. river2sea has one also... Whats the difference between these two? Which one is better? http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=river2sea+frog&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xriver2sea+larry+dahlberg+diver+frog&_nkw=river2sea+larry+dahlberg+diver+frog&_sacat=0
  17. I like the LIVETarget Frog for it's ability to stand up straight and being soft for better hookup. With every frog I've tried they still miss sometimes. Add a trailer frog hook by lake fork it will guarantee 3/4ths of your fish stay on.
  18. Yeah I've noticed walmart selling more specific to certain game fish as in catfish, bass, bluegill, trout, and crappie. I think the store in general in your area is adapting to the lifestyle of your region. In this case, it makes it better for a fisherman to get the certain lure he "looses" while fishing and be able to buy at his local walmart. I agree it helps their sales and cuts into competition. Also some of there pricing is cheaper than BPS, Gander Mountain, Dicks, and Cabellas. I Looked at those BL Rattle Traps up on BPS. They want $6.49 ea and on clearance walmart has them for $3.50 ea. Orginal price even was cheap to at I think $4.50 ea. I have one walmart 5 minutes away and two walmarts (one east, and one west of me) 30 minutes away. I check all three. I noticed the one by me had only rods on clearance and they were the falcon bucoo's and vengeance rods. At the one in Princeton, IL I noticed they had plano hydro box 3650 for $5 bucks. This is where I got the Sufix 832 braid 40lb for $14.99. Like everyone is saying the clearance varies store to store. I also noticed trokar hooks on sale for $5 bucks the mag worm hooks. I want to add also check Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=s9_hps_bw_clnk?node=3408951&search-alias=sporting&hidden-keywords=-guitar&field-pct-off-mp-owner=50-&field-enc-merchantbin=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=merchandised-search-3&pf_rd_r=1M1PNJEB5NQX0YH04G8Y&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=1620978402&pf_rd_i=3408951 They have items from 50% off and up its there end of the year markdown sale. I got a Utility box organizer wire rack which holds 14 boxes of 3600, and 3700 for only $20.53. Orginally 39.99. Just search around great deals at this time of year.
  19. Something I found at my walmart(s) was Bill Lewis Rattle traps for $3.50. There was chart shad, black blue shad, and lake fork special. This is a good deal which is atleast $1.00 less than other stores. NOTE: Not all Bill Lewis Rattle Traps are on sale. The ones with a red clearance tag are. I also got some Sufix 832 braided line for 14.99 Can't beat this! --Only one pound test was on clearance. It was 40lbs.
  20. My fiancee uses the Phflueger Lady Trion. Just like the Phflueger President it holds up. She loves it. She recently had the BPS lady series spinning rod. All I can say if you can teach your wife a baitcaster then go for it, if not, then spinning is your answer,
  21. x2 on Kopper frog... I use Brown/yellow or green/yellow. I match the frog color of frogs in my area. I use a lake fork trailer hook. I barely miss a bass with the trailer hook but it tends to get stuck on moss if stopped. I've also caught them without the trailer. The Koppers frog is soft and looks real. It also stays flat where some frogs will flip over on retrieve. Like everyone else is saying there's many different frogs. It's really your own personal preference.
  22. I wonder how the spinnerbaits hold? I also wonder how much? Hearing 2 jigs for $9 sounds crazy.
  23. I agree on this term. I agree with I like the SK silents. I think I'll try some SK's since I've used the Squarebill SK's. That's a good tip. I usually fish 10 ft of water and sometimes a little deeper. Yeah after I read your post I came to thought of getting some SK's because of the fact I love how the squarebills run true and have great action, I think I'll try the SK's before venturing out to the norman and bandit baits. I think it's hard to say which one is the best from everyones personal preference each love how each one works and a bass in each area of each region love different presentations. Thanks all for your help. I love quality. I'll be keeping these lures in my list for the future. I agree blue and pen kid that go with what is working for me. I'll stick to SK cranks since they have worked. I did like the bomber's and norman cranks sound like they are great too. Thanks all.
  24. I've own a few just looking to try something different. I agree they are a great crank. I'm wondering whats the best brand ya know? The best running crankbait. Like for squarebills I love strike king.
  25. First off, Happy New Year all. My question is what deep crankbait series should I get? Also what colors work for you? I've noticed bomber's are talked a lot on here. I really like the "Bomber® Bill Dance Signature Series Hardbaits - Fat Free Shad." Are these any good? What's better the regular fat free shad or the bomber fat free shad signature series kind? I want one for each specific depth. 6 to 7 ft, 9 to 10 ft, 15 ft, and 18 ft. These are the depths I usually fish. Your help is appreciated.
