  1. Pitching definitely difficult but is doable with practice. However I don't do that much anymore, what I do now is roll cast.
  2. Funny thing is now that I have a variety of 200,150,100 sized reels. I tend to use my 50 sized reels for finesse now. I want to supe up my 50Es.
  3. For lighter I'd go with a m/f. Pick your poison on brand.
  4. I've pitched with them in heavy cover with no issues. They are just as strong as a 200 sized reel but with less line. Also the Curado XG 70 if you look, they recommend that for flipping and pitching.., I think punching too.
  5. My sentiments exactly. I felt the same way, I found myself over time that other brands were ok to fish does the job fine for their purpose, but i fish my Shimano reels far more. Curado E,G,I - Citica Gs - Chronarch 50 MG, E, CI4 - Stradic FJs, Symetre and now my Metaniums. I'm in the process of selling off my tried a different Brand reels. Not bashing them, just find I'm not using them as much.
  6. Agree 100%on the smallmouth and aetos.
  7. I would base my decision on rod power on what you like to fish most of the time. If you fish the lower end or below the MH rod lure ratings then you will have difficulty casting the bait. Especially since this is your first baitcaster. I'm assuming you are learning the ropes. Keep in mind that a rod tends to have a sweet spot in the middle of the ratings.
  8. In another 5-6 years I'll see if my G series explodes or not. I'll report back then.
  9. I own or owned curados from b, e, g and I. I really don't see a quality issue. I also own Citica Gs too. I also agree a lot of Internet whiners never held one and just stated that it sucks based on others feedback. I own other Shimano reels Chronarch 50 mg and Metaniums. Love them all.
  10. I own a BPS extreme travel rod. Good rod for the money. Only issue is I'm spoiled and it feels comparative to my other rods. ?
  11. Out of the three I would go with the Avid. Don't have much experience with new version. Just make sure that the action is what you are looking for, you may need to step down a power. That is my only knock. I would've recommended the Zodias but since you didn't like it. No point! I hear most complaints about them is the handle.
  12. I agree and I'm glad they get to do what they want, however I can't stand some of them anymore because i think they did sell out. Two of them mentioned here I unsubscribed awhile ago because of this.
  13. I tried out my Curado 70, definitely smoother and feels better to me. I own 50e's too, still like them and wouldn't give them up just yet, but I probably will buy more 70s in the future. FYI I was able to throw a 1/8 oz bullet weight with a zoom meanie worm without even breaking it down and cleaning it and I didn't have issues getting decent distance. I think the braking system is far superior when you dial it the way you need it. I have all 4 brakes on and adjust the wheel.
  14. So I bought them all but unfortunately he raised the prices from 115 to 140. He said it was a "sale price". Either way, they are NIB and considering the craze and possible future value I bought them anyway. I bought the last three right handed (5,6,7 ratio). Needed a new crankbait reel so hey bonus. I also bought the cumara for 110. You guys are a great help thanks!
  15. I haven't noticed that neither. I have however found scales before on my hook tip. But that is rare.
  16. Definitely before purchasing a rod you should definitely look at the lure ratings to make sure it meets the specs of what you're intending to do. Also lighter line will help you get a little more distance, also if you leave a little more line out before you cast you can get a little more distance cause you will have smidge more leverage.
  17. In agreement with Scarborough. I was going to say, are you sure they are eating the fry? Sounds like they were guarding them or something.
  18. Just giving you a friendly hint, you posted in the wrong forum. Should ask a mod to move or I'm sure they will anyway.
  19. That is the older model, those are great rods.
