Split ring vs Loop knot on crankbaits/top water
The Rapala knot seems to be the strongest of the few that I tried. I'm going to give it a whirl on one of my Rapala's. I tried a Canoeman Loop knot too, it's a little easier but doesn't seem as consistent as the Rapala for me. Thanks for the responses...

Split ring vs Loop knot on crankbaits/top water
Do you notice more action with the loop knot?

Split ring vs Loop knot on crankbaits/top water
I've never been a loop knot guy, but played around last night watching a few videos on loop knots and picked it up pretty quick. Anybody here remove split rings and tie loops? Any advantages? I'm guessing there is no reason to do both?

C-Rig Anytime
I used to have one on deck most of the year. The last couple of years I've switched to a drop shot. I'll crank down to about 12-14. Deeper than that, it t-rigs, jigs, drop shots and occasionally a big spinnerbait. Don't forgot about slow rolling deep spinnerbaits. I don't do it enough myself.

Unscented baits
Fish Sticks is all I use. Goes on like chap stick. No mess. Works. Supposedly 4000 applications per tube, but I'm sure I don't get anywhere near that, maybe a year or two's worth for like $8. Also, fits right in your pocket, so you never have to look for the stuff.

Doubled uni-knot for drop shotting?
I use the double uni for everything....except the drop shot, where it's easier for me to just tie a Palomar for the tag end. Both are great knots. Just remember to put your tag end back thru the eye coming in from the hookpoint side. If your problem is just tying a double uni, google fish-n-fool knot. It's the same knot.

Line Diameter:Abrasion resistance
What's your source for this info? Everything I've read, along with my own observations, doesn't mesh with this. I've even seen stretch tests with like diameters that show XL being more stretchy. Note: I didn't see the same question asked above before sending.

Thermocline/turnover question for the graph gurus
Here there is usually a rotten smell and the water has a browish tint instead of the normal greenish. It doesn't happen here till late fall. Oct/Nov. One time I noticed thousands(literally) of crawdads alive at the waters edge everywhere during the turnover as well.

Fishing- Passion vs. addiction
Lol, not sure, I get out 1-2 times a week working full-time and my youngest is in middle school which keeps me busy with school stuff and baseball. But on my breaks and downtime, I'm often on here reading. So I guess I'm still on the passion side, close to the line...lol

Fall fishing techniques
I caught my PB a few years back on a green pumpkin jig in late Nov. Oct is not bad, but the bite here seems better in Nov, for me anyway. Spinnerbaits /Jigs in the fall for me.

Bread & butter technique
No grass here, so I focus on laydowns, brushpiles, standing timber that's close to deep water. 1/4 oz T-Rig with various plastics, mostly zoom worms.

Bad night of fishing
Update....the knee is a little better, just tweaked it when I turned while on the TM pedal. The trim was just a broken wire that I fixed up nice with some heat shrink over the repair. Now fishing...well let's just say 2 out of 3 ain't bad.

Bad night of fishing
You folks ever have one of those nights where you wished you stayed on the couch and watched MASH reruns...or whatever, lol? My night went like this. A front had pushed through and it was a real tough nite. A few boats I talked to in the Fri Nite tourney we're all struggling. I had a few whiffs, then finally connected with a dink that wrapped me around some standing timber and got off. Later on, I twisted my knee in the boat, as I'm down on my good knee, I get a good solid thunk, I set the hook the best I can and fought it for a bit. It was about 3 lbs, came unglued at the boat. So I idle back to the ramp fishless with a sore knee. I managed to load the boat and get it up in the parking lot but then the trim went out and wouldn't lower. So I spend an hour trying to fix that and finally get home about 2AM. Makes me wanna start golfing...ok not really.

Set the hook or not?
Yeah, that's a good video but on drop shots and c-rigs I reel into them pretty good and then set. Even on t-rigs and jigs on longer casts, I hook up better by reeling into them a little and then set. Shorter, more vertical casts are where I leave a little slack. Just a weekend warriors opinion...lol

Set the hook or not?
I can't add much that hasn't already been said..feel/see anything unusual, drop the rod and reel like crazy until your rod starts to load and then swing. The problem I had the other night was I found a nice buried pipe line with my SI. So while dragging a jig along the rocks every drag feels like a hit. That's where I struggle, its easier if your rod is still, but when your moving the jig/plastic, its much harder for me.

Carolina rig with swivel or no swivel????
I have to use two keepers for heavier weights. Also, the clear ones seem to hold better than red.

Carolina rig with swivel or no swivel????
Haven't used a swivel in years...Carolina Keepers work great.

Stren Fluorocast?
I tried it out on spinning gear and was not happy with it, of course I could probably say that about most fluorocarbon line. On a casting reel, I would expect it to fill your needs. A good sensitive mono for spinning reels is Stren Magnathin, very limp, lower stretch, and the sensitivity seems close to fluorocarbon. Much cheaper too...

Spinning line: McCoy Mean Green vs Silver Thread AN40 vs Sunline Super Natural?
I used to only use McCoy and its very limp and manageable. I haven't tried the other two.

Lesson Relearned
Unless I'm throwing to visible cover or top water, I rarely fish anything except the bottom. Plastics, jigs, cranks, spinnerbaits, etc. almost always hitting some bottom. I guess I need to switch it up some.

Lightning while fishing?
Most people are struck just before or after a storm...I don't play with that stuff, but I see people all of the time ignoring it while fishing, trying to finishing up yard work, etc.

Finding Summer Bass: Where Have The Bass Gone?
Great video, I used to fall into that camp until a few years ago. I fish about five lakes. Four of them have slightly stained water and the thermocline runs about 12-15 feet. The one I fish the most, due to proximity, has a heavier stain and the thermocline runs about 8-12. I used to try to fish it like the others but I learned to stay shallower and have done better.
-
Long verses short casts.
Definitely a time and place for both. I like to straddle that thermocline line (8-12feet here) and launch crankbaits as far as I can parallel Or no more than a 45 degree to the bank. Plastics, I probably only throw 1/2 that distance but I work it back to the boat even a jiggle Or two vertically before bringing it up.

Effects of electronics?
I brought this up on this board a while back and it seemed most people think that is not a negative effect. I saw a guide on a local tv show say he marks the fish..cruises on by and then shuts down the motor and sonar and goes back in stealth mode. I'm undecided, I've tried both and don't see a big difference.
