  1. I think braid is more abrasion resistant than any other line when comparing LIKE diameters. I agree that Gliss is not great in this category but excels everywhere else. The other two braids I'm testing are Fins XS and Cabelas Rip Cord. I like these two so far but it's too early to recommend.
  2. Interesting video...that's how I set when casting out horizontally...reel up to the point where you just start to feel the weight and then swing. But on vertical fishing, especially shallow, I don't wait at all. I swing and get it coming my way fast to get it out of cover. I'm using braid though. I don't miss too many but maybe I'm missing something. Sometimes they hold it sometimes they don't.
  3. I drive a 2000 Ford 150. The oldest vehicle I've ever owned (16 years). Gets me to work...to the lake. Got a few buds that own the ones in the range your talking about. Everyone seems happy.
  4. In the Spring on KY lake, I won a little tournament fishing one log jam very similar to yours but probably not 200 yards. Mine was right off the main lake and the timing was perfect I pitched a Arkie jig in blugill (green)with a 4 in Yum Dinger as the trailer. Work the outside first. Then pitch over a log, let it sit, lift up to the log (but not over) then drop just a tad and shake, then drop to bottom and repeat. The further back you go the bigger chance of break offs....and you will break off some so work the outside first. I love those things.
  5. So I can put transducer noise in there with bananas in the boat, catching a fish on the first cast, or any other superstitions that we blame for a bad day?
  6. Thanks for the responses....
  7. I was watching a show where the guide said after he marks his spot (fish, brushpile, rocks, etc.) he'll pass on by, turn off his sonar ping and then go back and fish. Do any of you do this? Does it make a big difference? The thought being that the sonar puts the fish on alert. I've been playing around with it but can't tell if it's made much of a difference. Thanks....
  8. Black/Blue, Bluegill ( Mostly green with different color flakes), Brown/Orange.
  9. 15lb on spinning reels, you can cast light lures a country mile. 30lb for casting reels for less digging and more abrasion resistance. It's been working for me.
  10. Baby Pacas, Yum Dingers, and Uncle Josh pork. I get more bites with the Pacas...bigger fish with the Dingers and pork...yes I still use pork, at least till my current supply runs out. Not sure if anyone still makes them.
  11. 1. Zoom Ol Monster / California 420 2. Zoom Orginal Trick Worm / Bullfrog 3. Strike King Cut-R worm in various colors 4. Yum Dinger in various colors 90% of my fishing this year has been with these 4.
  12. Straight braid for both unless you don't like maximum sensitivity.
  13. That seems overkill for me. I'd just run your braid to the swivel unless you have issues with it breaking...then I might look at other lines. I've been a braid hater for years but I've been using Gliss on my spinning gear for about a month and I'm loving it. Straight Gliss on Drop Shots, Light Carolina Rigs, Jigs, and Texas rigs. I don't mess with a leader..but my waters are not what you call gin clear, if that even matters. My levels of bites have stayed about the same, if anything, the biggest advantage is my long distance hookups have gone up. Slack line sensitivity..I never fish slack line. I fish mostly tight line.. I drop it just a tad to get a little bow. I can feel this bites much easier than fluoro or mono. Hope that helps...

I've almost completely stuck with all Zoom this year. The two exceptions are the Yum Dinger and SK Cut-R worm and thats because I don't think Zoom makes a stickbait and I prefer the Cut-R worm over the Speed worm.
  15. I went ahead and took mono off my remaining spinning rods...this time, I loaded up with Fireline Crystal in roughly the same diameter as the Gliss. So I have two with 40lb Gliss (.10 in) and two with 14lb Fireline (.09 in). Both cast really far, the Fireline has more "body" for lack of a better word. Gliss is definitely slicker. I'll try to gey back out and compare the two on the water. One note on the Gliss...I'm already seeing fraying ...especially around the tip of the rod spot when the lure is on the keeper. I'm going to loosen up the line a little when storing to see if that helps.
  16. I was able to get out last night till around 2. Coffee is a good thing. Just gotta say, for me, this might be the holy grail...lol. Had my best number of keepers on my home lake ever. There is an area under the lights by the ramp that I always can catch a few. Last night, I stayed way back and l long bombed them. I had no problems whacking them with the zero stretch. Am I saying that Gliss is why I had my best night ever?...yes I am. I picked up my mono rod and it felt like a rubber band at that distance....and I'm normally a mono guy. Mono for everything else, but plastics/jigs will be Gliss until I'm convinced otherwise.
  17. So this means that Gliss is not the Holy Grail?
  18. What size are you using, I'm using the 40, but think I'll drop down to 24?
  19. I've tried different braids over the years on casting reels...never liked them, switched back to mono. On spinning gear, I recently bought some Gliss and although I've only had it out once, I like it alot. My biggest went around 4lbs on a straight Gliss drop shot. No problems, of course there really shouldn't have been in deep open water. The stuff is very sensitive. I'm wondering if Ive been missing the boat with Nanofil and Fireline that have been around for a while. How does Gliss compare to those two? Thanks
  20. Right or wrong, I'd head toward the bridge at the mouth of the dam cove and check that area out. Drop shots and t-rigs.
  21. No....should I be?

I'm from KY, my favorite fall month is November. The rec boats are gone....a lot of guys are hunting and the fishing is usually on fire until December.
  23. 12-15 Big Game, Brass Bullet weight and glass bead with a Carolina Keeper. You can adjust the leader on the fly to from a Texas to Carolina for those on a budget or who are OCD about too many rods out. I fall in both those categories...lol. I have spooled up 3 spinning reels with 40lb Gliss (about 10lb mono), but haven't got out yet to test. I hate superlines on baitcasters, but this stuff passes the "yard test" on spinning reels.
  24. That's a toad.....kind of.
  25. Between work and remodeling a bathroom and bedroom, plus a deck tear out, I think I forgot. But I think it was a Zoom Ol Monster - California 420 fished after dark.
