  1. i don't use any backing. i use a piece of electrical tape and spool all 150 yards on my baitcasters. when the power pro becomes faded or chafed, i just reload it with the faded side on the spool to another baitcaster with the fresh end of power pro ready to go.
  2. love 'em. they only work for me on one body of water. it is the only bait i have caught fish on when i fish this particular spillway. it catches big fish.
  3. rattle traps/lipless crankbaits. cover a lot of water because these fish are looking to get fat and ready for spawn.
  4. i have always had huge success on walk-n-water with 7" gambler junebug worms w/ 1/4 oz. florida rattlin weight. also had success with a smithwick prop bait around the edges of grass and every type of vegetation.
  5. saturday fished the big"O". i was culling by 7:30 and ended up in 5th place with 12.80 pounds. wind was calm until around 12 ish, then it started blowing out of the s se @12-15mph. 20 pounds one the event. last weekend fished king of the glades first qualifier. top 4 boats automatically make it to the classic. i finished 5th----ouch!. my partner and i are the points leaders which at the end of all 4 qualifiers, the top 4 point leaders make it in as well. the water is starting to drop in the glades, so it is only a matter of time before the 30 pound bags start showing up.
  6. hildebrandt and war eagle. i sometimes throw the gambler ninjaspin. it all depends on the body of water i am on.
  7. i have a 2000 yamaha 50 with a 17 gallon gas tank. how many miles per gallon should i be getting? what is the "average" mpg on a 50hp engine?
  8. i have been using the skitter prop for about a month now at this condo that has big bass and tarpon. i have been killing the bass up to 6 pounds. i keep waiting for the bite to die, but for about a month now, it is all i throw when i fish that condo. tarpon love this bait as well.
  9. those 2 frogs that you mentioned, need 2 totally different hooks IMO. for the horny, i use a gama 5/0 and it swims perfectly. i cannot get a cane toad to swim without it turning upside down and spinning when i try it with a gama. for the cane toad, i use an owner 4/0 straight shank with a hitchhiker. that is the only way i can get the cane toad to swim right. i actually was shown how to rig a cane toad by none other than the cane toad king himself---chris lane at the gambler open house. hope this helps.
  10. my club tourny is $70 which includes big fish. we will probably have between 30-50 boats. i know a lot of the big sticks will not be fishing our tourny, because there are some anglers who follow them and gps their spots (unfortunately that is what some guys have to do, because they can't find their own fish). i do know that the kog will get at least 125 boats, maybe more because of the low water everywhere. hope to see you guys there.
  11. i have an expensive pair of craft scissors that i stole from my wife. they are amazing. i believe the name is called ARS. not sure but i will check when i get home. they cut through power pro very cleanly and never frays. the crayola ones work good, but the get dull very quickly.
  12. absolutely. i have fished every one of them. last year i missed the classic by 4 places (overall). i will be ready this year. who are you fishing with bassin? good luck. without a doubt the BEST fisherman in south florida will be there. my club is holding a "last chance" open on december 30th. so if you want to pre-fish, this is a great opportunity.
  13. i love competing against the best anglers in the state of florida. i usually have the slowest boat in the field ( a 17' pathfinder flats boat w/a yamaha 50)and i do fairly well. i have won a couple and placed in the money in several. but mostly i love the competition. i also love the look on the anglers faces who have $30,000-$50,000 boats and spend $200 in gas as i come to the weigh in with a slow boat and a fat sack of fish. it doesn't get any better than that.
  14. next time you go to holiday park, let me know. that is my favorite place to fish, and i can help you if you need it.
  15. hey big al------how'd you guys do at holylands?
  16. is that a sunday? ooooooooh you got my little brain thinking of a way to break away.. i'll see what i can do. going to the big "o" tomorrow. hope i can get some of those fat girls that have been biting.
  17. like avid said: use a hollow body frog and slowly "hop" it through the pads. i would use a braided line if possible, because if you hook a big one, you are gonna need all the help you can get!
  18. i noticed a little bit of back play on all of my shimanos. does this hurt the reel? my quantums and diawas had zero back play. i still love my shimanos though.
  19. i have one and i love it. i throw it on a g-loomis and it is by far my lightest outfit. i have 12 pound big game on it and i throw either a 1/4 oz. jig or i throw a pop r on it. i really like how it casts the pop r and i can chuck it a mile. great reel imo but if there is a downside, there is some back play.
  20. i will never use lead again. i really like the size to weight ratio.
  21. clowns and carnival workers. they freak me out.
  22. i've tried the poor boys silly bunny, and i don't think they even compare to the basstrix. i can't get them to swim nearly as good as the basstrix. i do however like the silly bunny when fishing for snook and tarpon in a heavy current.
  23. How are the lake fork magic shad working out? i love them! if i have 1 complaint, it is that they rip really easy.
  24. never fished it, but i hear big fish are the norm. clear water and fairly deep. if you go to highlandstoday.com, they have a weekly report from lake tarpon. hope this helps.
