A sad, depressing fishing story (maybe not) HELP!
that is probably the case. i believe gcpm lives in miami, and it is VERY common for people to keep EVERYTHING they catch. fortunately golfcoursepondman in a catch and releaser, but some of the other folks down there don't practice catch and release. i am north of miami in palm beach, and it sickens me when i see people fishing and they have a bucket full of fish that include bass(both big and small) along with tiny bream, cichlids, catfish, mullet and just about anything they catch. the only advice i can give you gcpm is just keep trying new baits and techniques and hopefully your fishing will get better.

condo fish
it is funny down here in florida, when you go to a "major" lake like okeechobee, istokpoga, kissimmee, and toho lately the fishing is down right tough. 10 to 12 pounds usually wins the tournys, and 8-10 pounds put you in the money. i go to my moms condo in pompano and crush 3 and 4 pounders all day. i caught around 20 fish the exact same size as the ones in the pic. my 5 biggest would have gone 15-18 pounds. all fish caught on top and from land.

HELP WITH WINTER FISHING CHOICES......
check out your local bass fishing clubs. i know that some clubs will take anglers with no boats. or you could just show up at the ramp early in the morning and look for a single and ask/beg/grovel/pay him or her to let you go with them.

Keeping a bass as a pet?
lighten up francis (holland bass)! i believe he is just telling you that on this forum BASSRESOURCE you are not going to get that much positive feedback with your remark of "if it dies, oh well". here in america bass fisherman take bass very seriously and protect them like they are human.

Favorite Screw-ups
dropped my boat in on a coooold december morning, beached it and went to park my truck. came back to find my boat on the other side of the canal. took all of my clothes off to swim across and get my boat, because i had no extra clothes. when i got to my boat i cranked it up and beached it again. i took one step off of my boat when a BUS LOAD of senior citizens was pulling in for their weekly tennis tourny. naked as a j-bird i just smiled and waved. can't even imagine what they must have thought.

A Year Off
most definitely get your college degree first! i don't know where you are planning on going to school, but choose a school that has fishing year round. come on down to sunny south florida and get educated and catch hogs all year round! seriously man---do not delay your education. after you graduate, you can then take time off before you begin your career.

Use your head
down here in the winter, it is vital that you wear socks with your flipflops, so your toes don't get called. i can't even imagine what some of you guys must go through in the winter. a cold front just passed through last night, and it is freezing--- 62 degrees. i actually have a thermal under shirt on.

Trick Worms
my favorite way to fish a trick is to use a 5/0 ewg gama with a black trickworm and run it on top like a little snake. deadly down here. i sometimes use a junebug trick carolina rigged when fishing a rocky bottom.

switching baits out on braid?
I find that even the scary-sharp hollow ground spey blade on my stockman's knife leaves a frayed end on Power Pro. i took my wifes sewing scissors and they work great---come to find out they are very expensive ($12) and the cut through power pro very easily. i used to use the fiskars, the kids crayola scissors, bps, but after a while they seem to become dull. go to a craft store, and pick yourself up some decent scissors. you will be glad in the long run.

Scents
i too only use megastrike. not to attract fish, but to ensure they don't let my bait go once they have put it in their mouth. i only use megastrike on my soft plastics, especially when flipping. i know guys that use megastrike on ALL the baits they throw. if i were to recommend an attractant, megastrike for sure.

Cold is Cold...
it is freezing here as well. i got in my truck this morning, and the temp read a freezing 57degrees. it should get a little better as the day goes on, warming up to a high of 70. fishing shuts down for a day or 2 after a good coldsnap like this one.
